Today was just a day like any other really. Valadhiel and her dearest friend Siana had decided to take a walk in the woods close to their two legged's teepee. The woods got extremely dark deeper in. It was near this barrier that they stopped, each looking solemnly at the other before staring into the oppressive darkness. Even animal sounds started disappearing deeper in.
Siana stepped forward first, a haughty grin on her face "Come on Vala! Let's go in. Maybe we can find some treasure!"

Valadhiel stared at Siana as if she was mad but the other mare had already stepped forward. "Si!!! Damnit..." She took off running to catch up to her.

Camren was following behind completely silent, his little legs shaking violently. This hadn't been his idea at all...

He could hear them, hear all of them. The cries and screams of agony rang out clear in his mind. One part of him recoiled from the terror while another part relished in it. It was that part- that vile and terrible part- which had a hold of him now.

Ra'Avyn couldn't stop it, had never been able to stop it. No matter what he did, he would always succumb to this dark side of his. Sure he wouldn't remember any of what he had done. He would wake up later in a daze, the unfamiliar setting causing panic to rise within him as he struggled to put the pieces back together. Cries of angry soquili would punctuate just how much trouble he had gotten into. That wouldn't be the worst of it though. No, the worst part was the not knowing. Soquili would accuse him of such horrible deeds.

How could he not remember? It always came back to that same question. He knew that he should remember. His body would hold the memory. Others would hold the memory. But his mind refused to acknowledge its sins it seemed.

Voices from below caught his attention, turning him away from his torment. Better to live in the moment. That dark part of him soothed as he began to dive towards more agony.

The forest had become silent, no sound to be heard not even a cricket or a bird. The muggy air was oppressive and it felt like there was a pressure on her ears. Valadhiel stepped forward very cautiously wondering why the forest seemed so devoid of life. "Siana... I think it's time to go..." Vala could see the other mare was convinced as well, her dark scleraed eyes shifting back and forth trying to figure out what was wrong.

Quickly back stepping the two turned until a rustling in the bushes gave them a reason to halt. This time Siana spoke up, "Ahhhh!" She yelped. "W-Who's th-there..?" Her voice was becoming high pitched, the fear audible within it.

Camren heard the fear growing in his companions voices and though he loved Vala his poor heart couldn't take it. He broke into a run and was gone, back the way they came from.

THERE! Ra'Avyn had little time to think. His mind was racing with thoughts, his heart pounding in his chest. The blood in his veins ran cold. More pain awaited him here. Of that, he was certain. Yet that dark nexus drove him onward...

The screaming voices in his mind reached a crescendo as he bounded from his hiding spot, landing squarely on his mark.

To Valadhiel everything happened in slow motion. The thing in the bushes turned out to be another Soquili. His blue hide mottled from the shadows of the forest, but it was his claws that she saw first. Outstretched towards her, the curved talons wickedly sharp.
Then her world was half darkened, white hot pain creeping down one side of her face.
The talons had bitten into the soft orb that was her left eye. It gave way instantly, and she screamed. The sound was pure and utter agony but the worst was yet to come.
The male was still falling his talons firmly entangled within her hair and still dug into the soft, now useless eye. The strain on the optical nerve was too much. It ripped and blood sprayed from the socket, her hair tearing violently as his talons finally moved from her.
She fell to her side, one antler tine breaking off from the sheer force of her head hitting the ground.
Her mind was in a panic as she saw the beast clean his talons of blood with a greedy tongue sucking her ruined eye into his mouth, the optical nerve hanging from his lips.
Her remaining eye rolled wildly, pink froth upon her lips from biting her tongue when she fell. Her brain had had enough. It bid her sleep, and sleep she did. Unconsciousness claimed her mind, body, and soul. To the world she looked dead.

Siana was not taking this well, she had just seen her best friend attacked. Vala had lost her eye! She turned to the Soquili in question and rammed her head into his chest, her short horns raking back and forth causing some minor but mostly superficial damage but more importantly it pushed the evil creature back. She turned to Vala and used the gift her unicorn blood granted her. Sealing over the wound was easy, but Vala still didn't stir.

Worried didn't even cover it, but she had to focus on the evil stallion. She screamed at him, "Why!? Why her!? She did nothing to you!!!"

It had only taken a moment. One moment of being lost in his personal torment and he had done irreparable damage to another. He had not known, could not realize, what he was doing. Then the pain in his chest began. It was a dull throbbing at first, but it grew steadily.

That had been his first real moment of awareness since this episode had began. Another scream echoed in his mind- distinct from the others in its realness. Ra'Avyn latched onto that real and visceral scream, allowing himself to be pulled from the brink of his dreamworld. Only, he was unprepared for what he saw. On the ground lay a younger looking Soq- apparently female. Blood was spattered around the area of her head and it looked like she had been attacked. Another female stood in a guarded position in front of the injured one, her head lowered as she brandished her horns. And she was yelling...at HIM.

"Wha..." Ra'Avyn stuttered in confusion, completely unaware of what had transpired. "What happened?" He took a step forward in an attempt to examine the seemingly unconscious Soq. "Is your friend okay?"

Siana couldn't believe her ears... This thing, this monster asking innocently after her herd sisters health. She brandished her horns again, the sharp antlers gleaming in the sparse light, "You are the one that did this! It's all your fault!" She would have normally regretted her words if this stallion hadn't attacked for no reason. She glanced sideways at Vala trying to see if she was still breathing. For a moment it looked like she wasn't but then the rise and fall of the injured mares sides made her breath a sigh of relief.
She glared back at the stallion saying, "You stay where you are... Any sudden movements and I will run you through..." She brandished her horns one last time before carefully stepping closer to Valadhiel. Nosing her companion she asked in a pitiful voice, "Please spirits, let her live through this and still be the same...?"

In her mind Vala replayed the moment, over and over again. Where had the stallion come from? Why did he attack her? All these questions and more cycled around and around unending. Her body became restless, she needed the answers, "Mmm... Si..? Whats... Where are we..?"

Ra'Avyn stared at the angry mare in disbelief. HE had hurt the fallen Ceryngeni? But he didn't remember it... Ra'Avyn lowered his gaze to the blood riddled ground, head spinning with the accusation. Could he really have been responsible for the gory scene?

"Ray!" A familiar voice beckoned him though he paid it little heed. He was too lost in searching his mind for any trace of a memory, any hint as to the validity of other's words against him.

Shadow stumbled into the small clearing, breathless from his pursuit of Ra'Avyn. "I thought...I almost...lost you...this time," the large stallion huffed in between deep breaths. Regaining his composure, he added, "You had me worried."

Ra'Avyn didn't respond- not even providing a nod of acknowledgement. Noticing the glazed appearance of his friend's eyes, Shadow took a tentative step forward, eyes narrowing in concern. "Ray...?" He had to do a double take once he was close enough to clearly see the Hippokirilona. Blood dripped from the stallion's mouth from where an eyeball hung suspended. "What the..." Shuffling from his left caused Shadow to nearly jump out of his skin. Twisting around, he finally noticed the two mares- one of them the original owner of the eyeball- and the gruesome evidence of the attack. "What happened here?"

The approach of another caused Siana to go back on the offensive in defense of her partially blinded friend, so she stood and looked at them menacingly. Well as menacing as a Uni'Cery'Flutter could look. Under her breath she cursed, "Spirits! How many more of them are there!" She eyed the one called Ray and almost heaved at the sight of Vala's eye hanging from his mouth. The once vivid green orb now glazed and life less.

Valadhiel came fully awake at sound of yet another voice. She had to stand, but her body protested it. Getting her hooves under her was easy, but spirits everything ached! So instead she chose to stay in the laying position with her hooves tucked in. Looking up at the stallion who attacked her was surprising, for now he wore a pensive look. However it was the eyeball, her eyeball, that hung from his mouth that disturbed her the most. 'So he attacked me for food..?' The thought didn't fit, didn't feel right. If he had wanted to eat her not even Siana could have stopped him. What was it then..? Why is he here..? She had to know... "What happened?"

What happened? That was the question on every Soq's mind it seemed. Ra'Avyn wished he could answer it. He was as lost as ever. The constant demand to know what happened placed a large strain on his mind. It was starting to become too much to bear.

"I don't know." He muttered under his breath, shaking his head. "I don't know." It was the one phrase he could utter. His mind wouldn't process anything else. The Hippokirilona sat on his haunches as he stared anxiously at the ground. "I just...don't know. I...I didn't mean to..."

Vala felt her heart clench at the depressed and lifeless expression the stallion, Ray, had taken on. Despite what had just occurred, in truth, she was fine. Siana's healing magic had stopped her from bleeding out and her long bangs covered the eye socket nicely.
Her eyes roamed his face and in truth Ray looked dead inside. She coughed politely hoping to gather the attention of the Soq, all of them, nearby. "Siana enough... Its obvious he has no answers for us and I am done asking." She gathered her strength and stood, albeit shakily, and looked at the offending Soquili and his friend, "Good day to you gentlemen." With her words done she turned and walked away, and didn't spare another look at the scene of carnage.

Siana stared gape mouthed at her herd sister as she stood and left the scene of her own attack and near murder, but she heeded Vala and walked away, sparing once last glance at Ray and the unnamed stallion. Her fur bristled and her lips turned down in a grimace. As she walked away her hoof kicked the broken antler tine. Staring for a moment she stepped over it, leaving it behind her and continued on, lips still in a scowl.

Shadow's eyes followed the retreating forms of the two mares until they were out of sight. Turning away, the draft stallion surveyed his herd brother for any injuries. The dull, lifeless eyeball still hung from Ra'Avyn's mouth- a grim reminder of what had transpired before Shadow's arrival. "Ray...?" His voice was soft and non-accusing as he tried to get Ra'Avyn's attention.

It took a few tries but Ray finally registered his herd brother's voice. With tears in his eyes, he finally glanced up at Shadow. The sheer level of fright and brokeness in his expression took the draft stallion aback slightly. "I've done it again, haven't I?"

Shadow hesitated briefly before nodding his head. "Yeah..." He then gestured with his head towards Ray's mouth. "You uh--you might want to go wash your face off..."

As they walked away Vala began to notice something odd. Her steps became less sure and she kept running into trees and bushes. Occasionally small mews of pain escaped her lips. Finally after her most recent run in she stopped, huffed, and said, "Siana I can't see straight... Every tree appears to be somewhere else but then I run straight into it!"

Siana worriedly chewed at her lip and said, "I was afraid of this... Your depth perception is off due to your missing eye." Looking around she grabbed a thick vine hanging from a mossy tree and pulled it down. She also pulled down an entire web of spiders, both parent and babies and started running around screaming as they crawled all over her. Vala couldn't help her amused grin.
