Spring Showers
Prompt 1

Solo or RP Format
Can be used toward Solo or RP req

After the frigid chill of the harsh winter had left Tendaji, it seemed that most were happy to just return to their normal routines, though the normal routine didn’t seem to be what the weather had in mind. It wasn’t long before almost everywhere noticed the way that the winter air had seemed to push precipitation onto the land in its place. Rain flowed seemingly non-stop, reaching all the areas of Tendaji, even frozen Zena saw its share of rain, though the temperatures were still much too cold to support such a thing and rain turned to hail, which froze over the ground.

The critters of Tendaji only wanted to seek shelter from their flooded homes and the wet downpour that surrounded them. They found their way into homes, huts, sheds, anywhere that could stay dry - and preferrably warm.

Parak info for own sake:

Parak (pl. Paraks) - Descended from ancient foxes, the parak is a fairly small creature, measuring to only about the height of an earthling’s calf. Its small stature and white fur allows it to blend into the terrain but its lack of height requires that it bounce through the snow, hopping at an alarmingly fast pace. These creatures typically live near the sturdy trees of Zena, sometimes climbing into hollows to make its nest, its large ears allowing it to detect nearby predators.

The world outside seemed endlessly grey and dark, and had been for quite a few days now. It made one miss the whiteness of it. At least.... Ysaneryn did. She had helped patch many a drip - with a little fussing over it all. She didn't like getting her hands dirty if she could help it, and enjoyed watching more than anything. But the rain was working it's way through little divets in the roof, and had finally found admittance to interior of the home. Scoffing, Ysane was leery of allowing the water to ruin her furs and other comfortable things by getting them soaked! It was a wonder when the girl wanted to do anything - and even more so when she was the one climbing ladders and hanging buckets or puttying over a hole in the roofing. It wasn't that she was incapable of it, it was that she honestly had not the energy for it.

But having no outlet since the rains had began to fall, Ysane had a small reserve of energy that was beginning to make her just a bit stir-crazy.

After laying wet furs and cloth out to dry near the fire, it had taken all her control not to begin to clean the already spotless house in an attempt to keep busy. That was when her father had approached her, and clasping her hands in his, gave her an errand to run. She was to take a basket of bread from the pantry up to the temple for those who were stuck unable to return to their homes for fear of mudslides. At first, the girl could not help but stare in mock horror at the thought of going out into the freezing rain. But after a pleading look from her father told her that it was beyond her saying no, Ysane sighed heavily.

Not long after, Ysane found herself standing out in the rain, covered in a wax and oil-slicked skin and carrying a baskets of day-old bread. But she was not all that happy about it. Already, water had began to seep through her shoes and chill the flesh of her feet. Frowning, she pushed the wet hair out of her eyes and looked up the hill toward where the temple stood like a drab queen on a throne of dark, almost sullen rock. With a deep sigh, she began to slowly make her way through the slick mud and up the hill.

Around her, the world seemed quiet and eerie without the normal hubbub of everyday life as people milled from one place to another. And yet, Ysane sensed something was amiss. Every so often as she walked, she caught glimpses of white out of the corner of her yellow eyes.

What was it...?

There it was again!

She turned her head quickly, trying to catch whatever it was that managed to elude her full gaze, and finally caught a brief glimpse of a fluffy white tail disappearing behind a hut. Curiosity budding like a weed, Ysane clutched her hands around the basket, and carefully moved to follow the mysterious blur. Though she had to admit, even with her overwhelming curiosity it was very hard not to continue on her way to finish her mission and get back within dry walls. Mud splashed up her legs as she thought this, solidifying her urge as a tremble of disdain crept through her. She hated to be dirty - in fact, most of the time, she wasn't one who really enjoyed being outside....

As she rounded the corner of the building, she finally caught full sight of what it was that piqued her interest: a huddled fuzzy mass of white curled up under the wood awning. The spot where they lay would normally be full of dry wood, but with the debilitating, annoying rain, the owners must have brought it inside in order to keep it dry. This left a large, and relatively drip-free spot for any matter of thing to call home. Moving a bit closer, Ysane peered curiously at the whiteness, and in that moment 10 pairs of black, beady eyes met her gaze. A shudder rippled across her, causing her skin to grow goose-pimples. Meeting the eyes of any animal she met made Ysane feel strange, like those eyes bespoke an alien knowledge that she knew nothing of. They continued to stare at her, seemingly unafraid or possibly just tired of trying to stay dry. The girl pursed her lips and let out a long sigh, reaching into the basket she held. Some of the bread had gone soggy with moisture, and wouldn't appeal to any sane being. But a hungry animal would not turn down such a morsel. She tore the wet loaves up into handful-sized bits and threw them at the Parak. At first, they scattered in fear and surprise, but their noses twitched as they sniffed at the bread and the dawning of realization beset them that it might be edible. The hoard fell upon the chunks in a growling, snarling heap of bickering.

She stepped back quickly, covering the basket once more from the rain that had began to pick up it's dreary pace, driving down on the oilskin like needles. "Really....? I would swear you have a vendetta to drown me...." She murmured, staring up briefly to the flat, grey above her. Cold pinpricks battered her face and she let out an annoyed sigh, closing her eyes for a moment until her face felt numb from the cold. Ysane lowered her face once more, her eyes opening to look once more at the sheltered animals she had just fed. But they were gone!

Had she scared them off?

She looked left and right, but could not see any glimpse of them. Once more, goose-pimples raised the flesh of her arms. Was it perhaps a sign from Bergchi? Her eyes widened at the mere thought.

She turned on her heels, nearly falling in the mud, and fast-stepped it back up the pathway to the hill. It was moments like these that she wished she hadn't even gotten out of bed. She was superstitious of signs of the gods and goddesses that might reside in the world around her.

Finally, she reached her destination at the temple's dark door. Rapping on it with cold knuckles, she awaited an answer. And after what felt like an eternity, the door slid open and a weary pair of eyes looked out at her. Without a word, she helf out her hands and presented the basket. The man blinked listlessly, clearly tired, and took the basket "Thank you, child. Please tell your father thank you, and also that we commend you for trekking up here in the rain. Now get home before you catch your death!"

Ysane bowed in respect, and nodded. "Please stay safe this evening." She said, her cordiality still existent despite her chilled body. As the door closed, she let out a breath, and traipsed back down the slope, looking forward to resting in a hot bath and warm, dry clothing.
