Cinnabar Island is a large island located off the southern coast of the Kanto region, south of Pallet Town. It is home to a large volcano. Blaine is the resident Gym Leader, specializing in Fire-type Pokémon. Years ago, the volcano on the island erupted and damaged the buildings on the island, but they have all since been rebuilt. As such, Blaine's gym no longer contains puzzle machines, but rather a dim underground pit lit by many torches. Blaine is a riddle lover at heart though, and in spite of no longer having his machines, he will often ask trainers a riddle when they first challenge him.
Cinnabar is a kind of red mineral, associated with hot springs and volcanoes. It is suspected that this is where the island gets its name from. Two of the notable structures on Cinnabar Island, aside from the volcano and gym, is the Pokemon Mansion and Pokemon Lab. The island itself is considered to be a technological mecca, as the scientists at the Pokémon Lab have the ability to resurrect Pokémon from their Fossils, and the Pokemon Mansion contains journals scattered about the interior that suggest a pokemon named Mewtwo was cloned here from the legendary Mew. The mansion has long since been abandoned however, and now currently serves as a home to a wide variety of wild pokemon. Trainers often come to explore the mansion in search of rare pokemon and lost items. Cinnabar is connected to the mainland by two water routes: Route 20 in the east and Route 21 in the north, leading to Fuchsia City and Pallet Town, respectively.

Ajicka hopped off of Fearow, checking her holo caster to make sure she didn't have any messages. Nope, though she was considering sending Rose a message to see how she was doing. Or Jimmy. Ehhhh she'd do that after her battle, when she had a bit more bragging rights, and a bit more patience. She tucked the device away, pulling out two pokeballs, and releasing the pokemon she'd had at the day care center. Her eyebrows rose a bit as she appraised them. "Looks like you guys grew," she remarked, looking between them, "And you both seem pretty close to evolving. I have to put you back in the PC system for now, but I promise, once I get all eight badges, you guys are going to be two of the pokemon in my active party, alright?" The two nodded in understanding-- well, Joltik skittered in understanding-- and she returned them, turning and heading for the pokecenter. Ajicka looked over as ZK entered the pokecenter, Arrow crooning happily behind him to see his trainer. They must have been held up... probably by ZK, given the sour look on his face. He was pale and glaring off to the side, eyes wide in rage. "Not a happy flier?" Ajicka asked, turning back to her PC, giving Arrow a pat on the head as he affectionately nudged her. "Your pokemon is insane. He kept.... swooping and stuff," ZK growled. Ajicka shrugged. "he likes flying, I guess. You're just being dramatic," she stated, then turned away as she finished her organization. "Look, I'm going to go challenge the gym leader," she stated, putting a pokeball away, "I suggest you stick around. We can figure out what we're going to do after." ZK sneered and turned away. "Fine, whatever," he muttered, then spun on his heel, and strode off. Ajicka rolled her eyes, but headed for the gym.
She pushed her way through the doors, gazing around, and then looking for signs of the gym leader. "I'm here to challenge the Gym Leader for the Volcano Badge!" she announced, stepping further in. No matter what, she would see which pokemon he sent out first, she was positive of that, even as she walked in. She wanted to take on the gym without using her water or ground pokemon... but she didn't want to send her three choice pokemon out against someone that might quickly defeat them with a type advantage of their own, either.

Blane grinned as he heard a challenger approach. The riddle loving old man sat at the center of his gym, but it was pitch black inside, so he didn't blame Ajicka for not being able to see him. With a snap of his fingers, the torches surrounding the underground cave of a gym lit ablaze, and Blaine stood with a flourish of his white trench coat. "A challenge? My my, I dare say it's been a while since anyones made it far enough to say those words." Blane couldn't hide the wide grin beneath his mustache, though his small black sunglasses made it more eerie than he intended. "You want the Cinnabar Gym Leader? Well you're looking at him. Heh!" He let out a hoarse chuckle.
He waited though, and Ajicka did nothing. She wasn't nearly as over enthusiastic as all the other young kids rushing in and wanting to battle him as soon as possible. This girl was smart, waiting for him to make the first move. Blaine smirked. "Hm... I see, you're far more patient than I anticipated. Very well, before we get started, you should know that I'm a riddle enthusiast, so let's make a little wager on who reveals their pokemon first hm? After all, it's quite an advantage to send your pokemon out last. Solve my riddle, and I'll send my pokemon out first. Give up, or answer incorrectly, and you have to choose your pokemon first." Blaine grinned.
This just made things more interesting, leaving things up to chance. He had no idea how good Ajicka was at solving riddles."Are you ready? Here's my riddle; Hotter than hot at my molten core, my body is one with the sun. She waited for him to send out his pokemon, but when he didn't, and instead challenged her with a riddle, she frowned. She didn't have time for this. She grabbed Jas' ball, but paused. "Camerupt or Solrock," she said, frowning, "If that doesn't work than I'll just start with my strongest pokemon." Ajicka frowned, in what was clearly a disapproving way. "Well normally a riddle's answer makes enough sense that you don't have to give two answers to fit the criteria," she stated, enlarging Jas' pokeball, "Seriously, how does Magmar's flames 'camouflage' it? They don't. Solrock, however, could be mistaken for a fire pokemon because of that. Y'know. Like 'camouflage." She 'tsked', and sent Jas out. "And Magmar doesn't actually erupt. How would it? Camerupt is the only pokemon that can. I get the whole being born from a volcano thing... but I don't think that riddle really worked old man. Sorry." As disrespectful as she sounded, she didn't really care. She didn't like people that thought they were clever, and just ended up being stupid. Not that that was actually what happening here-- that was just how she viewed it. To her, the riddle just was too ambiguous and contradictory to try and lay claim to that one answer. It didn't make sense. Certainly didn't make her feel stupid for not getting it. But she wasn't going to argue all the cases; she could admit to some of the points he made, and made her own, and that was it. She accepted the result, if only to keep things moving.
She tipped her head to the side. "I prefer battle to monologue, yeah. Jas, use Rock Slide," she instructed, staring dully across the field. She'd hope to keep him primarily in reserve.... but she had no qualms using him to quickly wrap up the first round, so that she could switch to her other pokemon when Blaine switched out. She straightened a bit as the first hit landed hard enough to land a flinch, crossing her arms over her chest. "Rock Slide again, Jas, and prepare to finish it off with Thunder Punch," she instructed. Jas huffed a puff of smoke out in acknowledgement, turning to slam his tail down again, sending a cascade of rocks up through the air to pelt down on Magcargo, hitting just as hard as before, and landing another flinch. Jas turned, opening his wings and immediately taking off across the field, pulling his clawed hand back as electricity sparked around it, to land a finishing blow, before gliding back and landing in front of Ajicka, who stood, awaiting Blaine's next pokemon.

Ajicka stared, unimpressed as the young man reeled so strongly from her comments. And, admittedly, probably Jas' attack. She took a deep breath, letting her cheeks puff out a bit, then exhaled, shrugging dismissively. She returned Jas, reaching for Arrow's pokeball as Magmar was sent out to give its point-proving performance. She reached for her pokedex as she did, releasing Arrow into the air, the rock-flying pokemon giving a friendly, challening cry in greeting. Ajicka, meanwhile, checked her pokedex to the pokemon, scrolling through some of the information.
"Huh, looks like you're right," she remarked, tucking the device away with a smirk, "No need to get so fired up, though." Her eyes glinted, but she held her tongue from there, as far as smart alick remarks went. "Use Rock Slde, Arrow," she instructed. She knew he probably wouldn't have the speed to land the first hit, given he wasn't quite as strong as his opponent, and she didn't really expect him to land as many hard hits as Jas had, but she still expected that he could deal a good amount of damage against his opponent.

"Not so fast, Confuse Ray Magmar!" Blaine commanded, stunning the Aerodactyl and causing it to crumble rocks on top of itself. "Now used Sunny Day!" He was gaining his stride now. The sunlight grew bright, which would help their fire attacks for a while. The Aerodactyl seemed to recover though, and tried to use Rock Throw again, this time successfully. "Try to confuse it again with another Confuse Ray!" Blaine commanded, waiting to see how long this one would last.

Blaine was fairly disappointed that Magmar had gone down without making much of a dent in their opponent, but it had put up a decent fight for their disadvantage. Not to mention he'd set things up nicely with a burn and a Sunny Day to intensify their fire attack. He wouldn't be wasting more fire attacks on this rock type though. "Nice job Magmar, return.
