Situated on a plateau overlooking the surrounding land, and backed up against taller mountains, Alpine Meadows has only one road winding up to it. The plateau is above the tree line, and cold winters of deep snow are made up for by beautiful springs full of wildflowers. A major preparation for winter every year is to harvest the hay from the meadows left fallow over the summer. If enough hay is not harvested, great pains are taken to ship it in before snow hits.
The single road leading to the farm can be blocked off for months at a time in winter, so the farm relies on it's stored food and large reinforced greenhouse. The barn had an attached indoor training arena, in addition to the outdoor one available in spring and summer. If there is need to get from the farm to town mid-winter, the farm relies on it's store of rock salt, sand, and tractors.
The owner opted for a large farmhouse to house all the farmhands and trainers, family-style, instead of separate apartments. In the end, the farmhouse feels more like a lodge. Extra money for operations is earned by acting as an adventure guidepost for horseback mountain trail rides, cross country skiing, holiday horse-drawn sleigh vacations, and hunting expeditions. Only recently has Alpine Meadows decided to venture into horse racing.

Alpine Meadows is a multi-venture Outdoor Experience enterprise run by [Mother Name] and [Father Name].
Alpine Meadows Racing setup is being run by [Name here] their daughter.
Facilities All buildings are rustic, with large timber frames. Walls are of various materials, including wood, more logs, cut stone, or sometimes cob. Doors tend to be unpainted wood, except the farmhouse front door, which is painted red.
Large Horse Barn, 40 Stalls To the left of the farmhouse. Tack room, indoor wash-stall, loft over main hall stores hay, in addition or a hay room, and a feed room for grain. Eight stalls are filled with draft horses [insert breed], used to pull wagons or sleighs in winter. [horse names and colors] Another eight stalls house the mixed breed trailhorses kept by the [owner last name]'s. [Horse names, size, colors] The remaining stalls are open for use by any worker who owns their own horse, or [name]'s thoroughbred racing venture.
Indoor Training Arena Of medium size, exists purely to allow the horses to be exercised when outside conditions are unfavorable. Attached to barn.
Outdoor Training Arena The standard fenced-in space used to contain and train horses, behind and to the left of the horse barn. Consists of a large rectangular area. A shed sits between the fence of the large arena, and a smaller circular pen, and can be used to store tack or other equipment.
Farmhouse Central to the property, the road leads up and circles in front of the farmhouse. A side road goes through the fence beside it and into the equipment barn. A large central room with a balcony all around on the second floor. First floor houses a kitchen, the male shared bathroom, and several bedrooms. More bedrooms and the female shared bathroom is on the second floor. The balcony is not deep, it is just the 'hallway' used to get to the separate second floor rooms.
Reinforced Greenhouse Sits behind the farmhouse, accessible by a gravel path from the back kitchen door. The greenhouse has a 'head house' a small building at the fron that acts as storage, and a double set of doors to prevent cold from entering and frost-killing the plants. The floor is of concrete slightly slanted to help water drain away and be collected to be recycled and reused. Stainless steel tables of expanded mesh hold mostly edible plants to support the food supply.
Equipment Barn To the right of the main farmhouse. Large and smells of oil, any cars or trucks that visit are parked in a front section. Large farm equipment, mainly three large tractors with various attachments, sits in the right side. On the left side wagons and sleighs are stored. A loft is used to store any smaller things (like rental cross country skiis etc.) The far right side of the barn has an outdoor area where rock salt, gravel, sand, mulch, and other such piles of useful material is stored.
Helicopter Pad Sits directly in front of the equipment barn. A large painted concrete pad that is kept meticulously clear in case of emergencies. Alpine Meadows does not own a helicopter, but some clients may choose to fly in on one. This is also a precaution in case of a major medical emergency, because of the remote location. Rarely on calm days in winter, a helicopter may be called in to deliver supplies. This is rather expensive, so not often done.

There are at least two year-round farmhands to help care for the horses and keep the farm alive through the winter.
