Early one morning all life hunters would find a small, handwritten note slipped under their door.
OOC
YOU ARE INVITED

.... To a private research opportunity ....

Learn more about the demonic species as well as the contract system. You will gain first hand experience interviewing and interacting with creatures directly extracted from Halloween in a safe, quarantined environment*. Anyone interested in this opportunity need not apply; merely show up at Lab 3B06 any time within the next week.

* Safety not actually guaranteed. Safety is never guaranteed.

Actually finding the lab is difficult enough. It is buried in a basement somewhere very deep and mysterious. The door isn't even marked, but there is a 3B05 and a 3B07 on either side of it, meaning this one must be 3B06.

Once inside, you find yourself in a small viewing chamber. There are a set of chairs lined upon along a long glass wall. The glass wall has microphones mounted into it, similar to how you might see a prison visitation room. This is especially fitting considering it is just that. A prison visitation room.

Beyond the glass wall is a small quarantine space containing three creatures. One is a sort of strange bird-related raum. One is a white haired girl with an unpleasant aura, and the third is a strangely familiar beast who resembles a character in a movie.

Through the glass you can also see a third room connected to the quarantine; the control center. There is where Ami monitors the room, watching. Waiting.

Judging.

She gestures to the microphones and assumes common sense will do the rest.

Her voice then breaks the silence, a grainy noise coming over the speakers. "Let's begin at the top. Your names, please?"

You look down at the pamphlet you were given upon entering the room:

DO:
- Ask questions. Gather as much information as possible.
x Begin with simpler concepts, such as name and introductions, then move to productive questions. This is to keep creatures from scaring.

- Write down notes, as you are most likely incapable of retaining information as stated above.
- Direct conversations toward demonic contracts
x This can include, but is not limited to: demonic contract machinations, processes, involved individuals, famous history, personal experiences, questions, further research material, dates, places, etc.

- Direct conversations toward any other beneficial information to Deus Ex.
- Use any methods you feel necessary to acquire this information.
- Talk with your fellow hunters, compare results.
- Deposit your notes in the red box near the door upon exiting.
- Analyze your results. Think critically.

DO NOT:
- Aggravate the test subjects. Unless you believe it to be necessary, do not damage my materials.
- Have conversations with the demons that are unrelated to the advancement of Deus Ex.
- Approach the control room.
- Leave without depositing your notes in the red box posted near the door.
- Waste your opportunity.
- Fail.

OOC
Welcome to a life hunter only* research opportunity!

(If you have a non-life hunter and want to join, let me know and we can work something out :'D <3)

STUDENTS:

- You now have many eyes on you. Remember your orders ...

- WILL GAUGE: ALL STUDENTS have a will gauge. This is divided into four points. You can start at any % you want, though for IC reasons, most of them probably start pretty low right now:
gaia_crown [ TRUST ] How much does your student trust the Hunters so far. The lower the percentage the less trust they have/ the more suspicious they feel.
gaia_crown [ CALM ] How skittish do your students feel? The HIGHER the percentage, the more calm they feel about things, the lower, the more anxious.
gaia_crown [ OBEDIENCE ] How willing are your students to follow instructions/ do as told/ listen to things going on? The HIGHER the percentage, the more obedient they become.
gaia_crown [ APPROACHABILITY ] This is how friendly/ approachable your student feels. The lower the percentage the less willing they are to talk about anything.

- MAX PERCENTAGE YOU CAN GAIN FOR EACH IS 100%. If a student is above 80% for all four, it means they are at the OPTIMAL POINT for being weapons converted- this shouldn't be a concern for THIS rp, but is good to know!

- Whenever a Hunter interacts with your student or your student sees an action going on, their GAUGE CAN CHANGE. Make sure to post in OOC quotes at the BOTTOM OF YOUR POST all % rates of your student's current emotion gauges every single rp post, just so Hunters know what is going on!

HUNTERS:
- Despite Ami's rather specific instructions, you are free to use this interview however you like! Ask questions of any kind, or just talking with Halloween creatures- any sort of conduct is fine! Have fun!

- However, know that behavior that disrupts the study will result in consequences, just like any other classroom/learning setting. This includes harassing the students, giving away private Deus information, etc.

- Please read the student section for students' will gauge! Please note that your hunter does not ICly have access to these "percents!"

- You are free to come and go as you want for this ORP! Please post [ENTER] or [EXIT] at the top of your post, that way people know who's present and who is gone!

Sludge had awoken to the revving of machines, and the red headed hunter speaking into the pendant and commanding he participate in any 'interactions' that were asked of him. Just what this would entail he of course had no idea, and actually fell back asleep only to wake up when he heard the movement of hunters entering.

He now sat there, head drooping to the floor as being in a room that was devoid of FEAR for so long was making him sluggish and sleepy. The FEAR candy that he had been given had helped, but only a little, and for now he just stared sleepily at any hunter who approached his section of the room.

Lex stood in the room purely out of obligation and a mote of dedication, foot tapping with impatience as he looked to each incoming Hunter and smiled at them, fingers drumming across the opposing elbows of his crossed arms.

Yes, he'd helped with this mission - and yes this was his girlfriend's moment in the limelight - but he frankly thought he had more pertinent tasks to do. Investigating folklore, stitching up another trainee, still figuring out then when, where, and how of the small box in his coat pocket.

He gave a look to the three beats, lips curling into a sneer. This would be more entertaining, at the least.

The note that Mimsy found beneath the door of their home piqued her interest so intensely that she shifted her scheduled plans for the majority of the day's specialization work, opting to end her tests a bit later than intended, all for the sake of sating the urgent sense of curiosity that she knew would be a distraction. After informing Robert of her change in whereabouts (lest it somehow become necessary knowledge), she went in search of the lab indicated as '3B06'.

One she located the correct stretch of underground rooms, it took very little of her skills of deduction to determine that it was probably the unnumbered room that happened to be missing in the sequence of 05 to 07, and the image that presented itself in front of her when she opened the door seemed to indicate that her assumption was correct. She narrowed her eyes at the three behind the glass - then at a fourth, when she discovered what appeared to be some sort of administration area - before glancing at the pamphlet that had been provided for her. An eyebrow was quirked at the text almost immediately, and her expression remained the same throughout the duration of time that it took her to read it.

Well then.

She tucked the pamphlet neatly into her coat pocket behind a heavy pair of scissors, folded her arms tightly over her chest, and cleared her throat as she rigidly stood in front of the containment area.

"Salutations," she began, in a tone as friendly as her monotonous timbre could manage. "My name is Dr. Mimsy Morris, but the three of you are quite welcome to call me Mimsy, if you are comfortable doing so. I am not a medical doctor - I studied astrophysics, and will be pleased to elaborate upon this if it is not a discipline that you are familiar with. If I may inquire in the meantime, however..."

Her gaze flickered briefly to Ami in her short pause. It was fairly safe to assume that she was listening, she reasoned.

"Do you know where you are? Have you come of your own volition, or were you brought here against your will?"

He still was operating on Sahara time, and it showed.

Somehow Jack had found a balance of sleep-deprived and professional, his coat neat and clean but his shirt beneath wrinkled from being stuck at the bottom of the drawer at an odd position. His hair was no longer its usual green but a honey color; there were still traces of the dye, but it was hidden beneath the black beanie he had dug out from the winter section of his closet.

It took him more time to find the dungeon-based lab than most, half because he was not familiar with it and half-because he was still trying to rouse himself. Halfway through he realized he hadn't gotten himself some coffee, let out a stream of curses, turned back, got some in a tall mug, and retraced his steps back.

Jack arrived as Mimsy began speaking to the subjects, so he decided to take a seat for the moment and see how the students reacted. It was only because the work excited him that he would bother to get out of bed at all, but his socializing with people meter had exceeded its limit days ago. Nursing his steaming mug with a brooding, bespectacled, bag-eyed expression, the giant took to moving his gaze between the three unlucky students as he continued his painful process of waking up, trying to listen as he did so.

Live demons, he reminded himself, scratching his stubble with a wince. Don't waste the opportunity just because you couldn't sleep a wink.

One of the hunters was talking now, and the Xenomorph just looked at Mimsy confused when she mentioned things like 'doctor' and 'astrophysics', and wondering if he was supposed to do something now. She had given him a name to work by though, so he tried to pronounce the name she had just said.

"Mmm...mmmiiiiimmm.....sssssiiiii" He slurred the word out, blinking a few times as questions were asked that took a while to register in his brain. Once he had figured out what Mimsy had meant he then shook his head. No, he had no idea where he was. The next question resulted in more hissing, and when he realized he wouldn't be able to explain what happened, he just pointed to Ami.

Ami wrote something down and upon being pointed at, smiled in an unsettling way at Mimsy. She noted that Jack had shown up, but was disappointed to see what a pitiful shape he'd chosen to present himself in. It was almost an insult.

She said nothing, watching the interaction and slowly making notes on her clipboard. It was unclear who she was writing about.

Jil was weak when morning came. She hadn't eaten her FEAR candy from the night before so when another was dropped through for her, she (finally) consumed it. The extra was placed into her coat pocket. The eyes that had given them light in the dark room had long since closed and he clothing zipped back up to full coverage.

She said nothing at first, not to their captor Ami, and not yet to the hunters who entered a different door to interview them. The one called Mimsy (it had glasses on and dark hair, but besides that they all looked the same) seemed polite enough to rouse Sludge.

"There was trickery involved." She spoke formally, with a strange accent. "In my case." Jil's tone was venemous and hissing through her sharp teeth. "Where are the others you have taken?"

Inoke had

It had taken a lot of convincing but after waving a pamphlet some other trainee had dropped at Ami and explaining, in minute detail, as to why she should let him she'd finally agreed to let him attend the lab session. It had been talking to a brick wall but it would be worth it just to get to learn a bit more about the monsters.

Slipping into the lab Inoke confirmed that, yep he was the only hunter with a sun emblazoned on their coat that was actually in the lab. It didn't matter though. He'd actually get to talk to some of the monsters, find out more about them.

It would all be worth it.

Peering around the lab he noticed one other hunter already talking to the demons and heard what sounded like hissing as the answers. Straightening his coat he walked over to stand near the girl's side. He tried to stay out of her personal space but close enough that she'd be able to see him without turning her head.

"There was trickery involved."

He paused as he heard the tail end of one of the demons answers.

"Where are the others you have taken?"

Others huh? "Did you all come together then? Or we're you taken separately."

"Yes. Mimsy. Hello." A tiny hint of a smile curled at one corner of her lips, and Mimsy unfolded her arms to wave just her fingers at the boil. The smile was long gone by the time he pointed to the other Life Hunter; she chose to avoid pressing him further at the moment, and removed a pen from her pocket when the second subject began to speak.

"Others?" Her finger twitched, indicated only by the tap of her pen against the paper, and she returned her impassive stare towards Ami as she spoke. "Were more than three of you brought here?"

The stare continued for a second in silence. Then she heaved a little sigh, adjusted her glasses, and addressed the three demons again.

"I apologize - 'here' is a facility known as 'Deus Ex Machina'. We are more in-tune with FEAR than typical humans. This is not at all indicative of humanity, and is not a representative sampling of those who are sensitive to FEAR, much like you are not a representative sampling of Halloween. Do you know why you are here?"

Despite the considerate attempt by the trainee to stand well outside of her bubble of personal space, she still shifted awkwardly until there was an extra half foot between the two of them. It was a bit too difficult to concentrate on being okay with a stranger being close enough to reach out and touch her when there was science to be done. Jack, on the other hand, continued to be ignored as if he had never existed in the room at all.

Direct observation of living specimens that could talk back was a rare and infrequent opportunity, and just as the pamphlet had said, it was one he didn't want to miss out on. However, the rules were a guideline to the many other questions that he had in mind.

For that reason, once he walked in with his tablet to take notes, he glanced at the notebook and ignored it. He could email Ami with the results but there was no way he was allowing her to have the information all to herself. It also made writing a report easier in the future.

In the room, he watched Mimsy already start with her own line of questioning. How did they get here? Considering they were here, he just assumed they were captured.

It was not the sort of question he wanted to ask. He didn't care if they knew they were here or if they registered the danger they were in – not as far as using it as a way to force answers. Just because they were actual Halloween students and not meowing or cawing minipets, it didn't mean he saw them as anything other than a specimen filled with information.

He had another agenda.

Stepping forward, he glanced at Mimsy and once her own question was given, decided he could start with his own line. "Do any of you know about Medea?"

She wondered if they truly thought they were clever.

It was all very mechanical. Clockwork. The cogs merely made the hands tick.

However, there was one point she decided to make. She looked at a tech and began a short conversation with him (none of which could be heard, of course, as the control room was too far away). The tech disappeared and in a few moments, reappeared in the room where the hunters were conducting the interviews.

"U-Uh I am here to uh. Tell you guys to uh, only talk to one demon at a time. 'Cause you're like- stressin' 'em out on the graphymatron or whatever. Wavy gravy?" He shrugged, and then scurried back to the control room. Or rather, he walked very slowly back to the control room. He wasn't eager to return.

OOC
Just an ooc note to please only address one demon at a time! Remember to quote who you're addressing. Possibly even put in bold who you're talking to at the top of your post? This makes it easier on the student players- thank you!! ;;

Another human joined, this one with yellow hair. She wasn't sure if it was male or female. Jil's eyes dragged along all the faces in the interrogation room but settled back on the one called Mimsy. She seemed the most cooperative thus far, also giving information back. That was important.

"I was taken alone." She did clarify to a dark skinned one. "Though there was a fight involved and others tried to help me, to no avail obviously."

"I know that others have been taken. Over years. Many have disappeared to the white coats." Jil's eyes narrowed, to be clear that they weren't fooling her. "I know." She hissed. "I want to know where they are and what has been done with them."

"Do you know why you are here?"

Jil hissed in disgust, lips cracking to reveal razor sharp teeth, "I know that one," she motioned where Ami watched, "asked us about demonic contracts. But that our cooperation is entirely forced by these... baubles." She flicked the red runic necklace around her neck.

"If you are all non-typical humans, different from others, what makes you think that a small sampling of students, hardly past being scarelings, would be able to instruct you on the intracacies of demonic contracts?" There was a sneer behind her words. "Would you ask a scareling how to drive a hearse? Because we have horns we are all the same sort of demon? We don't even look the same, like you humans do." All weird and limbed and in such limited color palettes.

Melvin's question seemed to agitate her further. "Do you know about... The Elvis?" Because that was the only reference she knew, based on her knowledge of conspiracies and the few that connected Halloween and the Human World. It was her colony's specialty.

He raised a brow as the girl stepped a bit away from him then rolled his eyes as she just told the demons who they were. "Tell them our whole history why don't you." He muttered to himself before stepping around so he could peer at one of the other demons.

Stepping to another one of the quarantine zones, the one containing a rather moping looking avian creature. He'd never been this close to one of the demons, at least not that he knew of, and it was interesting to see them up close. It was strange that they resembled humans and he wondered if that was intentional or if they always looked like this.

"Hey ... do you have a name?" Maybe this one, who seemed quieter, would be easier to get answers out of than the snarky one

The hunters were starting to ask more questions now, leaving the Xenomorph to try and explain with his limited knowledge of speech just what he knew.

"Ssss.....seeeeperate" He hissed out the word. Listening to Jil's explanation he realized that she had been captured in a similar way to him, so he just nodded as she spoke. When Mimsy asked another question he just shrugged, as he had no idea if more had been taken. According to Jil though, there had been. Sludge then shook his head, not sure why he was here but still trying to tell them as he didn't have a choice.

"O....r...orrrder...O...bey"

Another human then approached them, asking about someone called Medea. He shook his head, then glanced around at Jil again. She was asking them questions now. He never thought doing that, but then what did he want to know about them? Besides how to get out of here, but he doubted they'd tell them.
