SHADOW RUN
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics
You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics
This bonus is consumable.
The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.
Trainees: 0 recovery
Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
Hunters: 1 recovery
Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

To his credit, he asked only after assuming she meant literal training. At the appointed time he was lounging around outside the Sun Run, his weapon already summoned and being spun idly around one finger by the antlered handguard, the other hand occupied with a cigarette. He was, additionally, sporting three weeks' worth of beard, and looking more exhausted than he normally did but also, due to a fresh tan and smattering of freckles, somewhat less like a corpse.

"Oh s**t yer like a mountain man minus tha mountain." Cee had appeared without so much as the approaching sound of heels or a runway walk down the hallway. She'd simply materialized from around a corner with a sly smirk and a casual lean. Her months on Deus seemed to do her well, a dark tan of her own and probably in the fittest shape of her life. She approached further with a stretch that lifted her short top shorter, jangling her belly ring, before she relaxed once more. "Figgers all the dudes I know got little shifty knives." Concetta laughed a bit. "I guess I like da bad boys huh?" "So.." Cee stepped up to the training area, no weapon yet in sight. "Which is this? Cause I did that mine sweeper one..." She made explosion hands and a the corresponding noise with her mouth. Also before he could stop her she'd leaned close enough to BEARD RUFFLE and giggle before he could pull all his instinctive yanking away. She didn't get a full one in there but was satisfied.

It was probably for the best that she distracted him with the beard ruffling (which, as expected, resulted in him yanking back like she'd stabbed him), as this prevented him from having time to make commentary on little shifty knives--always a sore point with him. "This," he said acidly, "is the Sun training course. Which means it's the most direct: go in, hack at things, get out. It's a lot less... traumatic than the Death course," he added, grim. "Lady's choice: you wanna dive in first or send the Moon down in front? It tends to not make much of a difference," he finished. "They close in from all sides."

"You go first." Cee gave a thumbs up. "I suck at fightin." It didn't seem like something she would normally admit to, more a fan of building herself up than deprecation, but she'd found the use in selling herself short since she'd realized that she really did suck with her weapon. It set a very low bar of expectation right off the bat. She finally did summon her weapon, the white silver whips appearing in her hands and hanging limp. It was hard to tell if she subtly moved them with idle motion or it that strange shifting was the whips themselves.

He eyed the whips askance, but there was less resentment in it than there once might have been. He still occasionally lamented Fionnghal's distinctly-unimpressive form, but she'd proved her worth to him as both a partner and a weapon time and time again. "Well," he said, as the first wave approached, "now's your chance to get some practice in." He swung almost idly, with an easy, almost lazy grace. The word catlike came to mind. He would never intimidate anyone by show of force or strength or possibly even of finesse, but he would have been startled, had he been able to stand outside his own body, by how comfortable he looked, how speedily and confidently the blade bit through a puff of shadow. Cee was definitely slightly impressed with the way he moved, the knife making quick work of a few shadow creatures. They surged in around them swiftly when they entered the course and she wasn't quite prepared for the amount of enemies. A single whip licked out, it's range making it possible for her to strike through several at once. The immediate success bolstered her a bit and Cee took a back to back stance, planning on handling whatever shadows slipped through the Moon's advance. "Ya know, sweet cheeks," Yes, while back to back, she pinched his behind. "Ya should think about yerself more... work that movement inta.. ha.. extracurriculars." Taym was so busy scuttling away in indignant horror from the pinch that he very nearly succumbed to the second wave of shadowlings, only managing to stay upright with a bit of the same movement she was telling him to make good use of outside work. "Is there a ********' problem with--no, you know what. Don't tell me," he said grimly. "All I'm sayin," She piped, "Is people always trynna improve thur work self or their trynna git muscular or tynna lose weight... but people never work on other things." She turned her head a bit to look at him out of the corner of her eye. "Practice makes perfect an s**t. Always room fer improvement." She probably shouldn't have spent so much time chatting. It was only moments before the surging shadowlings overwhelmed her.

When she came to she'd find Taym waiting, idly swinging the knife by the antlers and then, distractedly, picking off a shadowling that drifted a little too close in the wake of the retreating Life techs who'd brought her around. Cee lifted a brow. "Listen if I was ******** em ta death... HA!" Her whip struck another several shadowlings. "I tole you I was s**t. I needa level up or whatever. That's what Bix says anyway. He says you just one day will jus'be like WHOAH." Which actually was a pretty good breakdown of how a convo with Bix went. "He's right. My first time through this thing I went down on my first shot, and then ******** it up two or three more times." (With Clerise. Whom he hadn't, he had to remind himself, really known. Not really.) As if to demonstrate the distance one could go from ******** it up on the first try, he sliced easily and lethally through another wave, nimble, and it might have seemed like showing off except that 1) it wasn't flashy at all and 2) Taym had a certain face, a sort of diluted James Dean, for showing off, and he wasn't making it. "Combat aside, seeing you and Bix enter a room together is like watching a jumpy little minnow swimmin' around after a shark," he said with a grin. When she came to she'd find that either he or the techs had dragged her back to the entrance for the purposes of a genuine breather. Taym, having already completed the course, had nothing in particular to prove and no qualms relinquishing his progress to start back over with her, if and when she wanted to. He crouched nearby, watching her absently, distractedly, through the smoke of his cigarette, and when he saw her starting to come around he obligingly held it out for her, just in case a smoke would help. "I would guess," he said diplomatically, "that using one whip is difficult, and using two is hard as ********>."

Cee waved the cigarette away. "It ******** sucks.." She scowled. "I got determination on my side... " Well... a reasonable amount. After that it was all the blame game and storming off. "If yer done.. I'll just try again another time." Cee had slightly shifty eyes. She didn't like failing in front of people.
