Worshipers of Soudana: The dirt and cobblestone paths of Obsidian City are dark and lined with examples of poverty, particularly on the outskirts, but its churches, somehow, always maintain their splendor. As you sit, dressed in the nicest clothes you own, the words of another sermon wash over you and you have to wonder: What does it mean to be a child of Soudana? Are you a fervent worshiper, bent on one day proving your worth as a soldier, a weapon, and a war machine for your goddess’ purpose? Or does the entire thing seem like a gross lie, told to pull the metaphorical wool over the eyes of puppets? Or, perhaps you could care less about faith or lack thereof and simply want to be out of the walls of the church and running amok in the streets, enjoying your life while it lasts.

What is going through your mind, and how do events unfold from there?

The Clockmaker's Apprentice: Whether or not you feel it is your calling in life, and regardless of whether you spend your daydreaming hours imagining yourself decked cap a pie in fine silks and jewelry, turning the head of every dancer in a ballroom or fitted in gleaming armor and single handedly felling vicious beasts in the wild lands of the continents beyond: you are a clockmaker’s apprentice. It isn’t a glamorous job. Nor is it a particularly active job. For the most part, you simply sit and watch the front of the shop while your master works and tinkers, adding up to a fairly boring time. It does, however, bring in a little coin, which your family needs in order to pay for food on the table and (you may hope) education in your future.

One day when you are daydreaming of whatever it is you daydream about, the shop is quiet, the master is out on an errand that should keep him busy for a matter of several hours more, and a dear friend of yours comes in through the front door. After asking you several times if you are indeed alone here and the conversation is private, your friend admits that they come to ask a huge favor of you. Their little brother, who has been sick for quite some time, is worsening in condition fast, and your friend’s family desperately needs the coin to pay for a healer, now. Your friend knows you have an access key to the clockmaker’s coin safe and that you could easily remove just enough to fund a healer. “It’s not stealing!” your friend insists, because they promise that as soon as their father gets his pay come the end of the month, they will repay the costs in full with a little extra.

You know what it’s like to be in desperate need of coin, and a little ‘extra’ could certainly help your own family in more ways than one. Not to mention, the clockmaker doesn’t need the gold now — he’s plump as an overfed leklan and hasn’t withdrawn from his coin safe in two months — plus, you trust your friend to pay you back. But something does still feel dishonest about the whole thing. What do you do? How does it make you feel?
