Shyra Brooklyne

Name: Shyra Brooklyne
Age: Appears 16
Height: 5'3
Weight: 107 lb
Relationship Status: Single
Orientation: Straight
Animal Type: Bat
Personality: Shyra often appears to be calm, while also being very positive and cheerful. Like most witches, she has a fondness for destruction and causing chaos, but she normally doesn't unless provoked somehow. She is clever and very good at talking her way out of situations without usually needing to resort to lies. She is known for living by an odd philosophy. If someone does her a good deed, it is her practice to do one for them as well.. If someone wrongs her, she seeks vengeance for that wrong, though it is always equal to the wrong she received. She is hard to anger, but when she is mad, she becomes like a different person. She will be much more violent and will attempt to kill whoever or whatever has pissed her off. While she often expresses regret for things she has done while so angry, she also would not change them.
History: Shyra's earliest memory is from when she was five years old. She was waking up in a room in a beautiful mansion that was almost like a palace, with no idea how she had gotten there. The owners of that place, a man and a woman, told her that they had adopted her from an orphanage and were going to be taking care of her from then on. She accepted the story without question, because she was too young to know any better and she didn't know what else to do. Little did she know that they had actually killed her guardian and kidnapped the young witch to train her to use her magic to fight for them.. They did it in such subtle ways that she never noticed though.
They gave her a proper education for a young lady as she grew up and taught her to play a variety of instruments, of which her favorite was a flute. When presented with one on her eight birthday, she was delighted and it soon became the only instrument she ever played. They also encouraged her to practice the strange powers she had until they were as close to perfection as they could get, although the man and woman were both disappointed that she had so few powers that were any good. And then they started to notice strange things about her music. Whenever she walked around while playing her flute, she could find her way much better.. It didn't take them long to realize that she could mix magic into her music, which allowed her to use a wider variety of sound based spells. They trained her to intentionally do it, helping her create a wide number of spells which she required a musical instrument for. They were a bit disappointed that most of the best spells she had for that had more passive effects, but not so foolish as to think that they were useless.
In this way, a few more years passed until one day, when she was fourteen, she overheard her "parents" talking to someone about her. She knew better than to listen in on conversations, but she couldn't help hearing a little.. And that little bit was enough to make her stop and listen from outside the room. No one really knows what was said that angered her so much, but she destroyed the entire mansion, killing everyone inside before disappearing. Everyone assumed she had died too in what they had labeled a "freak accident" at the mansion, though her body was never found. No one knew the truth about what happened.. And for many years, nothing was be heard of the young witch.
What none of those people knew was that she had fled after destroying her former home and eventually found her way into the witch's realm. From there, she was able to learn about what she was and develop more techniques to use with her magic. She had only discovered she was a witch from what she had overheard on what she only refers to as "that day". The day she destroyed what had been her home. Over the time she spent there, she gained a reputation for not being a witch that should be taken lightly. Despite her wide variety of spells and her fairly high level of power, her lack of interest in fighting and causing chaos meant she was never considered a dangerous witch. In fact, she kept mostly to herself for a very long time.
Eventually, she started leaving the witch's realm and playing her music before humans. At first, these excursions were very short, rarely being longer than a few days. The very longest she spent outside of the new home she made for herself was a week. She also never went to the same place twice. This was the time when she was still refining her magic and even developing new spells. She used cheap instruments she bought with money she earned to test those spells, not wanting to risk the destruction of her precious flute. She was able to discover the limits of most of her spells in this way, which made her happy she hadn't used her flute. As time passed, these trips started lasting longer and longer and she returned to the witch's realm less and less. Eventually, she began spending most of her time as a travelling entertainer. She only went back to the witch's realm when she had to, preferring instead to see what sights the world has to offer.
Likes: Bats, insects, music, whenever someone does something good for her, when something goes as planned, her flute, chocolate
Dislikes: Birds-of-prey, snakes, pretty much anything that would eat a bat, needless violence, being attacked for no reason, most other witches, people that go after her soul, people that try to use her, modern technology, her former "family", liars
Spells:
Familiar Summons- She can summon a colony of bats to aid her by blinding, limited the movements of, or overwhelming enemies with the sheer number of them. However, extremely loud noises will make the bats panic and fly away. She cannot just summon bats from out of nowhere. If there aren't any living within 1 mile of her location, then this spell will fail without question. It also takes time for them to get to where she is, usually a few minutes unless they're very close by.
Ghostly Wail- She can emit an extremely destructive scream that also has the effect of temporarily deafening whatever it is aimed at. This is a last resort sort of attack, in case she cannot use her flute and all attempts to escape fail. It damages everything it is aimed at, including people, regardless of whether it is friendly to her or not. She usually loses her voice for a time after using this, because each use damages her vocal cords slightly, and she must spend some time recovering afterwards before she can attempt to use magic again. (Ten posts, at least.)
Echo Cry- A weaker version of Ghostly Wail that doesn't have the same consequences. For a second, it won't seem to do anything, then loud "echos" of her scream sound from four points around the person that disorientate them. Usually used to try to stun someone before attempting to flee, though it can be used in combination with other spells(lasts 1 post).
Echolocation- By making some kind of noise, she can cause sound waves to bounce off objects around her so she can find her way. This gives her a complete mental map of her surroundings within several yards in each direction. Her ears are sensitive enough to be able to use other sounds too, but those don't give her as clear a picture as music and the range is very limited. Usually, she uses her flute for this spell.
Magical Infusing- She can take an ordinary musical instrument and place some of her magic into it, which then allows her to use it to cast spells. The strength of the spell cannot exceed that of whatever instrument she uses. A really strong spell cast with a low quality instrument results in it breaking in the middle of the spell. It also takes time for the magic to settle into the instrument, so she has to wait a while before she can use it(15 posts). The longer she uses one instrument in particular, the more magic seeps into it, which allows her to use a wider variety of spells and also strengthens the instrument slightly. She can do this with other objects, but she only knows music spells which is why she only uses musical instruments.
The spells she uses with music:
Empathetic Music- This is a spell that allows music to influence the emotions of the people she plays for. A happy tune will entice people to feel happy, while a sad one will encourage them to feel sad, sometimes to the point of tears. It doesn't work on those who are deaf, either permanently or temporarily, and is possible to resist. People with more passive, timid, or submissive personalities tend to be more easily effected than those who have more aggressive, overbearing, or dominant personalities. Also, it cannot be used at the same time as another spell.
Shatter- A series of extremely high pitched notes which can damage the hearing of those around her. This can have the effect of shattering any nearby glass. This also ruins the sense of balance of people effected for a very short time(just one post).
Destructive Notes- A series of extremely low notes are played which cause minor internal damage in an enemy at a distance.. Up close, it can be a lot more extensive, sometimes even to the point of being fatal. This also causes hearing loss that is usually temporary as well as a lack of balance in the ones it is used on(lasts about 2-4 posts). This can be used to break locks and other things by vibrating them. She could also cause small earthquakes by vibrating the ground using this spell.
Lullaby- A soothing tune that causes a sense of content drowsiness in people she plays it for and, if listened to long enough, may cause them to fall asleep. They sleep as they normally would once the song is over, so it lasts until something wakes them up or they wake up on their own. This also has a range of about five yards in every direction. Beyond that, people will only feel some sleepiness, but not to the point that they pass out. Yes, people that can't hear are pretty much immune to it.
Hypnotic Melody- A tune that, when played, puts those who listen into a kind of trace-like state. The slightest pain will snap them out of it, but it works in much the same ways as ordinary hypnosis. It can only be used on one person at a time. Ideas may be suggested to the person it's used on, or one can make that person tell them nearly anything from their memories. It also only works for as long as the song continues, so if used to gain information/suggest ideas, someone else must be there to assist. It does not affect someone who cannot hear.
Siren's Call- A tune that causes a nearly irresistible urge to find the source of it in anyone that hears. Does not work on people that are deafened somehow. The effect lasts as long as the song, but other than that urge to follow the song to it's source, it does not have any other effects. Meaning she must be careful when and where she uses it, lest she attract someone who might try to harm her.
Chant: "Flutter flutter in the dark, little bat to leave a mark"
Fighting Style: Normally ranged, relying on her spells. She just can't hold her own in close combat.
Wavelength Type: Calm, but destructive
Soul Shape: Green-ish blue and fairly large. It has a peaceful expression with the eyes closed as if sleeping. It has bat ears sticking out of the top.
Other: The only things she has with her when she travels, aside from her clothes, are a flute and a small but sharp dagger.. Also, she was born blind.
Theme Music: Girl Playing the Flute
