I'm curious about what you all think. Do you LOVE LKH but despise Anne Rice or are you impartial question exclaim

Personally, I'm not a fan of Anne Rice's writing style, its too drawn out for me. She takes too long to describe something that needs 2-3 words or maybe a full sentence. If I look past her drawn out style, her World is too boring for me. I just don't feel the depth that Laurell K. Hamilton has.

Style wise, I feel Laurell K. Hamilton is a superior author because of the depth of EVERYTHING. From main characters to thee most minor, they all have a realism about them. As much as I dislike Gill the were-fox, I got a sense of how real his fear & terror were, in Narcissus in Chains. I almost felt bad for him, still wanted someone to shoot him though twisted As imaginative as her World is, I just can identify easier with her storytelling ability & writing prowess

I actually REALLY like Anne Rice! heart But I like Laurell K Hamilton too heart

I love them both, and I dont think I could ever choose between the two.

usually and book with a sex scene turns me right off the book, because they dont know how to properly write a sex scene without being crude. both authors know how to do it without turning me right off. and I enjoy the differences in the two writing styles.

I used to like Anne Rice. I LOVED the first three Vampire Chronicle books. After that... well, it just became too... weird for me. Body Thief was odd, if decent. But Memnoch I positively could not finish. Between the religion being crammed down my throat and the incredibly emo version of Lestat... it was like a whole book written from the PoV of Richard at a Revivalist camp. gonk

I definitely prefer Laurell K. Hamilton. I don't think her characters have changed as much as Anne Rice's have (or at least my perceptions of them), and her plots aren't as focused on the personal histories of the characters. There's also just plain more humor in her writing.

And as a reader of a good deal of smut, not exactly intentionally, I have to say that I much prefer LKH's writing. Granted, the only Anne Rice smut I remember reading was in The Lives of the Mayfair Witches and The Tale of the Body Thief (since her vampires tend to just talk about 'the useless organ')... but still. I think Hamilton is just... idk, more of a natural at writing it?

I don't think Laurell K. Hamilton and Anne Rice can be compared easily. The only thing their works have in common is main characters being vampires. They have different styles of writing, one concentrates on action and suspense, the other describes the world from a vampires point of view based on their emotions and thoughts more than actions. Both authors have a different approach to violence and sex. The Anita Blake series is filled with twisted beings like Raina or Nikolaos while there are no truly evil characters in Vampire Chronicles books. You can say you like one more than the other but it would be hard to say which one is better. I personally love the works of both authors each for different reasons.

I wouldn't say who is the best, but I have to say I prefer to read Hamilton's, simply because there are more of her books I enjoy. Anne Rice's first three Vampire Chronicles were great, best vampire books I ever read, on the whole. The rest, though, I just couldn't read. I flicked through The Body Thief a few times, Memnoch a few, just couldn't get interested (although the parts of TBT I read were funny, like the part where Lestat's relearning to use the restroom and SO HORRIFIED by it).

It's hard to compare them, since their plots are alike only in the vampires, but Hamiliton holds my interest most. Perhaps because it's easier to relate to Anita than to Lestat and the other vampires (especially since the Vampire Chronicles got religious and -guess who's an atheist-? Makes it hard to understand Lestat's feelings, maybe?)

To me Anne Rice is to be worshipped as the mother of god vampire novels but she does get kind of boring if you're not into really detailed stuff. Personally I like the pace and drama and pretty boys of LKH but Lestat won me first even though Jean-Claude makes me very happy... god help me if I were to run into a pretty boy version of Lestat on the street walking beside a pretty boy version of Jean-Claude I think my heart would explode in my chest and my brain would implode from sheer joy and maddening confusion

I would have to say that Akasha counts as a twisted being... she tried to wipe out all men(except for Lestat, of course)!

The way I see it she wasn't evil, she was confused. In her eyes male gender was the cause of all evil in the world so by reducing the number of males she wanted to bring peace to the world. I'd call that crazy not twisted. Being evil means that you know you are doing something wrong and are enjoying it, like pushing nice old ladies down the stairs or taking candy from a child.
