Lily Aides
♋☢
Several millennia ago, Hades was given control of the under world. While many know the tale of Persephone and the myths regarding Greek folklore, none have heard of Lily. Born just over two centuries ago, Lily was raised by only her father, a man who fought for the freedom of Greece. Despite the fact that no one believed that women could fight in wars, she did her best to support the resistance, going so far as to make a deal with the ancient Hades. This deal was simple enough; she would be given the ability to control the dead so long as she lived with him once the war was won. For three years, she fought within the Veil, defeating the monsters that suppressed her people as her father dealt with the humans. Finally, when she was sixteen, the war ended, with her people the victors. When Lily walked among Greece with her father, she expected grandiose thanks, but was instead greeted with insults. They saw her only as a freak, and a monster herself. Quickly, a seed of hatred was planted in her heart, and she knew that humans would never live among the supernatural in peace.
It was another half a year before Hades came to collect his own prize, but by then Lily had decided to cross the God. Her power was too great to give up, and living among the dead beneath the Earth was not how she wanted to spend her future. She needed to defend herself against those that had hurt her, and she no longer wanted to be called a human. When Hades came to collect on the debt, he did so by killing her. Wolves were his weapon of choice, and so Lily will never forget the day she died. A handful of years passed, allowing her ambitions to grow and her hatred to strengthen. She befriend Persephone, the only person who she could relate to on any level. They spent most of their time together, and eventually, Lily was able to turn the innocent Persephone against Hades by reminding him of what he had done to claim them.
After months of planning, they set up a trap for Hades. Truly, it was far from a clever plan, but dumb luck seemed to be a specialty for Lily. When the God was distracted by saying his goodbyes to Persephone for the spring, Lily attacked him with his own subjects, using them to beat him back. Enraged that she would attempt such an act of disloyalty, he fought to have her thrown into a river of souls. When his hand reached her shoulder, it was Persephone who exploited the trust Hades had for her by pushing him into the river first.
The act would only give Lily five hundred years of time, as Hades would manage to get out of the river eventually, but she seized the underworld as her own without a second thought. While it was truly Persephone's action that allowed Lily to become the Underworld's ruler, she takes full credit for the act and has declared herself Goddess of the Dead.
For two hundred years, she lived above and beneath the Earth, appearing in whatever war she pleased and doing whatever she wanted. The body she uses on Earth is not her original. That one was lost long ago, torn to shreds by wolves and burned by villagers. Her appearance is always that of a young woman, usually blonde and petite. Persephone, during the rare times she is able to leave the underworld, is a great friend to Lily. Together, they have brought down civilizations and managed to keep the Veil in place. That's why, when news of Janhall came to Lily, she knew that it would have to be stopped. Humans and Monsters could not live together, she had seen proof of this. Lily has visited the town several times, but no one ever seemed to suspect the might of her power.
