Navarre Goras
♘➸
Since the day of his birth, Navarre was separated from the world and kept only among his clan. His royal position kept him safe, but it also kept him isolated. As he grew, he was taught to live off the land and to embrace the magic of Earth, tasks that take over thirty years to master. Eventually, his studies extended into diplomacy, giving him the chance to visit others in the forest, like fairies and fawns. Occasionally, in between sword lessons and teachings about these new cultures, he was told of non-magical beings called humans. During his visits home, he would share these stories to his family, who quickly made it clear to Navarre that he was never expected to see any of these creatures, nor would he be allowed to endanger his life by meeting them. Despite the fact that he could not understand why he should fear a creature who was slower, weaker, and without magic, he trusted his parents and agreed to remain safe within the Veiled forest.
When Navarre turned one hundred there was a grand celebration for passing from childhood, and the party was said to last for a week. Every lesson and chore was cancelled for that time, allowing the clan to have a sort of holiday. The evening of the last day of festivities, Navarre wandered from his home, light-headed from bliss and drinking. He passed only a few people who were in the same state as himself, so nobody thought to stop him before he left the Veil. After an hour more of walking, he found a spot to lay down, not considering the idea of being discovered. Unfortunately, the sun hadn't even risen completely when he was jolted awake. Looking down at him was a man, a human man. After a morning of explanations and confusion, the man was brought back by Navarre to his home, who had forgotten the speech he was given almost sixty years prior. His family did not welcome him home happily, but killed the man without question in their obsession to protect the Veil's secrets. Shocked, Navarre spent years trying to understand why his people would kill another race without hesitation, yet his lessons as a boy were of remaining calm and keeping a level mind.
Ten years after the incident, Navarre decided that he could no longer live in the forest, stuck behind a Veil that made no sense and a clan that taught hypocrisy. He traveled to many lands, learning more about humans and races of other magical lands, always confused as to why they wished to remain hidden. Finally, he found a small town that shared his belief, and he has since advocated for the Veil's removal.
