Gaia's...er...current state of affairs are what prompted me to ask this question. You can't deny that all this recent cash-aggressiveness is pretty off-putting to many. While I'm normally one to ignore it all, with Cash Shop-centric announcements being shoved in your face by the bucketload every week, even I'm becoming unsettled. sweatdrop
But this isn't to say I'm about to quit Gaia cold turkey! No! I'm sticking with this place to the very end for the people. 3nodding I got RPs and a guild to see through, after all. However, I must admit I find myself spending a lot less time here than I used to. Real life happenings aside, I can't help but want to shy away for a while to escape all these barks of "BUY BUY BUY".
I'm also asking because...well, I try as much as possible not to be so much of a naysayer, but what if that "very end" comes sooner than later? eek At least some of us would surely want to keep in touch somehow, right? Oh, it's not like I'm forcing anyone to, though. If you don't want to openly post about your other means of contact, that's fine.
Anyway...hah. I guess the only other haven I'm up for showing is Tumblr. My personal and RP blogs are linked in my signature. I wouldn't exactly call it an ideal platform for conversation, but I somehow end up spending hours looking through my dashboard and some tags. lol
Oh wait. I wouldn't exactly say I'm very active on deviantART, but I check in regularly for updates from people I watch. I'm just putting it out here as another means of contact.
I have Skype and Facebook as well, though I'm more of a lurker on those platforms too. Um, I'm not up for posting them openly, but I can give them out upon private request.
Lastly...I do have an empty ZetaBoard that I set up bookmarked. It used to be a private space between me and a couple of friends for RPing, but they eventually fell out of forum RPing, so I cleaned it out. Since it's just empty space, I'm not really going to reveal it until the day Gaia officially announces a closing down.
...or unless a handful of you might express interest in making it another hideout?ninja

Gaia is no different than the mmos I'm in the only difference is that the gear you equip actually do more (defensive wise) whereas the items here do nothing but look pretty. So really the whole "pay to win"complaint on Gaia is pathetic. Pay to win what? A beauty pageant? Theres no pvp, no mobs. In zomg maybe but there is no pvp. So what exactly do you gain from this? Besides ha ing a massive contest to see who's better.
ANd most of the safe places i've been to closed down a number of years ago. I actually came to Gaia because the forums here had more to offer, had a bigger fan base, and the guilds. And that's what'S going go keep me here.
As far as other places go; I stick to tumblr, mmos and imvu. But really no place is safe from trolls.
Edit: Gaia's not going to close down. You don't suddenly hire more people and do massive sales if you're going yo close. You're going to lay off people. Hiring more staff new and old means you're expanding and wanting to expand your product. This is Business 101 and something a company I work for does. Hell their market I g tells us of what courses (I work for an e-learning company) are out for our customers. The announcements are nothing to the 20+ emails I get per day for the last year.
Yeah, I find at least five "announcements" every time I log in. It would be great to be able to opt out of those and still get actual announcements.
I'm also on Tumblr, and have a similar opinion about the Facebook distribution (I'd probably use that as a last resort if anyone's interested in keeping contact). I'm also on Reddit and such, but that's not really the sort of platform you're talking about, so...
I don't know if we're all on there, but is anyone else on Steam? It's not exactly a JRPG haven like this (there is a small Tales Series group that I'm in, but it's not really an active thing like this guild), but it's still a decent means of chatting and such.

As far as other places go, I'm on Skype, DA, and IMVU. Though I mostly lurk on those areas. With DA, I mostly check updates and such aside from uploading my own art from time to time. And IMVU, I mostly go there to hang with a couple of friends I RP with here on Gaia.
I'm with Astra here. Pretty sure all this aggressive selling is so Gaia can expand, not because the site's having trouble. All I've got is Skype, by the way.

Whether it's for expansion or not, it's more annoying than old people with a little kid. -_-* As for contact, I only have my e-mail. Not even that, now that I mention it. Password? Pfft! No idea!
I agree that gaia has gone on sort of a... Cash binge so to speak. And I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is that they are going bonkers with the gold in the process. I swear the Price inflation in the marketplace since they started is just absurd.stare
As for other spots, Skype, Steam, Facebook, DA(though that is rare to nonexistent now), though I haven't been that much of a community member anywhere as of late. crying

Deviant Art Edit: Now also on Furaffinity, Steam and IMVU
Yeah, I know what you mean about all the cash shop announcements its really pissing me off, I really hope they cool down with them.
Anyway, other places I hang out on are deviantART, Know Your Meme, Tumblr, and Pixiv.

I was out of the house for a few hours and I missed TEN ANNOUNCEMENTS. I remember receiving one announcing every few days, maybe five if you missed a week. But ten for a few hours?
I miss simple Gaia crying
Let's see... I'm really only on DA and Gaia, but I do message on Steam and Pesterchum, and I do have a Skype account (I used it once ;>>)
Club Verge, In my opinion, is the funniest thing about all this. It's like, you get an invitation to join this club because you spend $100+ in gaia cash, and they give you exclusive access to this shop that charges ridiculous amounts of cash for the items?? Like, what is the benefit?
Other than Gaia, I mostly talk to and keep in contact with other people via NaNoWriMo, Neopets (yes, I still go there), Google+, and Steam.

Oh, I know right? And they call that "extraordinary support" too. It's such a cheap trick to make money gonk

It's not even a good trick either.
And then there is Loyal's bazzar where you have to log in for 75/90 days to gain access. Seriously? I mean, some of us have busy lives. And logging in for a select number of days doesnt really define loyalty, if you ask me.

Are you going to horribly judge me for having access to it?... gonk
I assume that's not in a row, because I haven't done that for that many days in a ROW...
By the way, Steam users! Does anyone want some free keys/Humble Bundle gift links? I have a few left over from bundles and such. They're for these.
-Natural Selection 2 (evolving marine vs. alien shooter/RTS hybrid) -Sid Meier's Ace Patrol and Pacific Skies (airplane strategy thing) -Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project (over-the-top shooter thing, I think) -C-RUSH (some sort of side-scrolling spaceship shmup thing)
Not exactly JRPGs, of course, but in case anybody wants them...
