Berit was growling and gritting her teeth as she trudged away from the apartment complex she called home. Clutched in one hand was a dark blue duffel bag full of supplies the dragon girl had deemed vital to surviving out in the woods. It was cheating a little since she knew the nightmares had had no such advantage but Berit was also going to be alone and they had had each other. either way she wanted to prove she could have as much experience and maturity as them not that she was necessarily the best at toughing it out. Once she had made her point Berit was sure that people would take her more seriously.
She had of course left a note taped to the door of her assigned apartment. The teen was aware that despite being mostly self sufficient there were people at the dreamery and complex who felt responsible for her, especially as she lacked a guardian to keep a more regular watch on her. Just wandering off with no notice would alarm them, thus she had explained her intentions quickly in a mostly legible note. With there having been no recent threats to the realm she couldn't see why anyone would bother to try and stop her either.

Where pavement ended and the sea of grass began is where Alex was. But she was not on the ground where she could be seen. She was in the trees. Perched. Content to watch the world. That was until she saw Berit.
She made a quick observation about her friend. Her friend was all seriousness. Determination.
She wondered what had gotten into her friend. Staying in the trees she carefully as she could followed her.
"Want Company?" She asked when her friend was coming upon the familiar stream. Past that stream was area she was unfamiliar with.

Berit jerked her head up at the sound of Alex's voice. The other manifest girl was also predatory by nature and very good at staying undetected unless she wanted to be. Though neither of them were the sorts of childish once saw in manifests that hatched younger they did occasionally play hide and seek. It was more a tests of their respective senses, well and test Berit's ability to identify tracks and stuff which she'd gotten keen on a while back. Alex was not the same as her but similar enough that the night fury girl had fostered a pleasant friendship with her.
"I'm going away for a while, I don't think your family would like that," Berit had no desire to cause problems for her friend. " Your company would be really appreciated otherwise," it was hard to miss the wistfulness in her voice. A couple weeks with a friend would be way better than doing this completely alone, plus they could finally spend time together uninterrupted by the needs of others or various responsibilities.

"If my sister can go away on a vacation with her boyfriend for two weeks I'm sure I can go away with you." Alex said as she hopped down from one of the lower branches. A bit wobbly but still she landed on her feet. She grinned. Her landings were never perfect.
"Although they'd probably like it better if I told them where I was going. I could leave them a note right here in this tree. I'm sure either mom or Auden would find it when they came looking for me." She slipped in and out of her bedroom window all the time. It worried her mom but her mom was getting use to it. And, if she got in trouble it would be all on her shoulders and not on her friends. She was nice like that, always willing to take the blame even if she didn't do it so long as it was for a friend.
"Pen and paper." She mumbled as she took the bag off her back. The contents were almost nil. Misc stuff at best. A sandwich, bottle of water, band aids, rope. "Here we go." She pulled out a pen and an old brown paper bag that once upon a time contained her lunch.
Using the tree she scribbled something down. Gone with Berit. Be back when we get back. Promise to be safe. Alex.
She stared at the note. How would they know it was her. The handwriting wasn't all that legible. Then she snapped her fingers. She pulled some fur from her arm and put it in the bag. They would have to know it was her! Who else had fur like her that came to this spot. She'd bet no one because she never saw anyone but Berit come this way.
With that done she found a small hole in the tree and placed the note just so. It stuck out just enough to be obvious.
"Ready!" She threw the pen back in her bag and grinned.

"You have a strange family," Berit murmured. Still, she was grateful for this, that Alex felt like she could come along on this journey with her without ti causing problems. In a way it still amazed her how eager her friend was to help without asking any questions about where they were going or why. Berit tried to be helpful to Alex when she could but she tended to want explanations for why they were doing things.
Berit gave a small toothy grin and began marching towards the deeper part of the woods. "I'm not totally sure how to do this" she admitted," but if the nightmares could live out in the woods than so can we." As a pair they were rather unstoppable, creative and strong there hadn't been too much yet they hadn't figured out how to conquer.

"As long as we can manage the basics- shelter, water, and food." As she said each she ticked off a finger. "Sounds like a piece of cake to me," she grinned.
Alex may not have understood why she had to prove herself, but she was all for helping her do it. "So what do you know about the woods?" She herself didn't know a lot. The trees she was familiar with were around her house, or at the dreamery.

"Not much" Berit admitted as she strode past the start of the treeline. "Just that the nightmares managed to live in them and I don't think they ran into any poisonous plants or creatures while they were there." It wouldn't be easy but it wasn't nearly as dangerous as living in some of the woods or jungles that Berit had read about. Which was good since while Berit had a lot of fun taking up challenges she had no desire to be woken from her sleep because a giant snake was trying to eat her by squeezing her to death or something like that. " I have some food and water in my bag, so shelter is probably the first thing we should make." Berit carefully chewed on her lower lip as she tried to remember the rules for shelter. " We need to be protected from wind and rain and it needs to be near a place we can build a fire for heat and cooking."
