A woman of the world, and a popular author, though no one knows. Sister to William Clare, who's the face of her books.
Charlotte means 'free'
clever - quiet - intelligent - creative - compartmentalizes - conflicted
Dual-natured. Used to be a bit of a wild child with her brother. Occasionally dressed as a boy, and continued to do so after puberty if a region's clothing allowed for it. Very good actress, knows her roles (compartmentalizes). Enjoyed the freedom the anonymity of traveling allowed her, and chafes a bit at Sunderland's restrictions. Yet her cleverness enjoys the restrictive environment, learning the new role and quietly stumping and outfoxing the 'knowledgeable'.
Writes novels based on the various cultures of the world; cooked up a scheme with her brother that he'll take the credit, she'll get the pride. Doesn't crave attention, prefers the shadows (though secretly misses the freedom of boyhood) - will eventually be chosen which will create a bit of a conflict within her. Brother will be proud of her and jealous (may be chosen at some point...?)

NAME Charlotte Clare (Charlie) GENDER Female AGE 18 OCCUPATION Author (actually) FAMILY William Clare, brother; Earl of Holles, grandfather; Baron Clare, oldest uncle; two more uncles; various other Clare family members ROLEPLAY COLOR #E1112D
APPEARANCE A petite brunette, skin a bit too tan to be proper, though the tan is fading. Her hair has a bit of curl, as well as sun-streaks.
PERSONALITY POSITIVES Loyal, intelligent, cosmopolitan, NEGATIVES Secretive, manipulative Charlotte has traveled the world and experienced a wide variety of different societies and cultures, and in doing so has developed a compartmentalized mental system. She is able to slide into different roles with ease, playing each part well enough to avoid detection; she prefers to avoid any detection.
A quiet observer, Charlotte prefers to gather information before interacting. It has proved a boon for her novel-writing, as she has been able to learn many of the myths and norms of the various cultures visited.
Underneath her masks, Charlotte is a confident young woman, clever and intelligent. She feels constrained by her role in society, having experienced the other side - in many countries her family visited, she was able to parade as a boy. Yet she also relishes the challenge of playing her role and subverting it, her novels being a vessel for her game.
HISTORY Raised with her older brother, William, as their parents traveled the world. Their father was wealthy enough in his own right to travel, though he (unbeknownst to his noble family) did take up the trading of goods as they traveled. The family considered James Clare to be an eccentric, especially to take his family with him in his travel.
Charlotte would consider her childhood to be lovely. To experience so many things, things few will ever get to see in their lives, Charlotte feels makes her very lucky. She kept diaries of her travels, carefully recording customs and lore, which then became the inspiration for her stories, eagerly shared with her brother. Her first story, under William's name, was sent back to Sunderland and published (helped along with her father's money, of course). Others followed, and sales were good. The novels have helped William and Charlotte's return to Sunderland, as their popularity makes the family happier to have them.
The anonymity of travel allowed Charlotte to masquerade as a boy many times, going by the name 'Charlie', which is something her brother still calls her. Her cover allowed Charlotte to experience both sides of life.
In Zhongguo, tragedy struck, and William and Charlotte's parents were killed. Their bodies were shipped back to Sunderland along with William and Charlotte. After a long year of mourning, the pair are gradually reentering society.

Elysia is name for the Elysian Fields, peaceful and happy
Elysia is anything but peaceful and happy, and is consistently unhappy with the way of the world. It chafes at her for her Chosen to be considered anything but wonderful because of her gender, and for her Chosen to accept that as the world. She is a proud and unapologetic guardian, and her stubbornness causes her to come into conflict with her Chosen's quiet and observant ways.
