They're not subtitles. They're the UK titles.

Why is it that the UK gets the more imaginitive titles? I'm seriously beginning to wonder what defect the publishers think American readers have...

I'm in the U.S., so all I got was _____'s Book. 'Twas interesting to find out the U.K. titles, although the one for Briar's Book seems kinda off. Admittedly, the book deals with disease and healing, but "The Healing in the Vine" isn't the first thing that occurs to me when I think of Briar.

Heck, I'm having a hard time just getting even the unimaginative US books right now. I'd give my lucky hat to get Briar's book- US or UK version.

We've got both titles in NZ. My school has the UK title but I got confused when I went onto the public library's site and there where the books, Briar's book etc. Espiecially as all the books are about all four pf them, they just sorta concentrate on one character more.

Before the first time I actually read the books, I had expected each book to be narrarated from a different character's point of view.

Down here in the Southern Hemisphere I just got the UK titles. It's true that books tend to have their titles mangled somewhat with the transition from Europe to the Americas eg. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone, not to mention those dreadful things they did with the titles of the Charlie Bone books. And it's true we get alot of cool covers. They look like this:
Fire in the Forging Power in the Storm Magic in the Weaving Healing in the Vine Pretty, yeah?

You know, I never really liked Tortall. Since I had no idea where to start, I read the Circle of Magic books first, and I loved them. Then I read the Wild Magic series, and I just didn't like it. stare
