It was late evening the same day that she’d gotten up early to go try catching a Vlidean. This time, she thought, I’ll catch one at least! Gotta make sure Videe stays here though cause I don’t want him to get into any fights…
So she waited till after dinner and the family was all in their rooms getting ready for bed. She slipped out of her window and fluttered silently to the ground, trying her hardest not to alert her parents. It was dark outside, with only the moon in the east and the last vestiges of the sunset in the west to light her way. But Sueno had a plan! It was dark, so she’d keep to the edges of the stream that was near her house and make sure only to walk towards the moon when she left the stream! That way, she could just walk away from the moon till she hit the stream then follow it home! Trotting quietly around the fields, Sueno headed to the stream, then into the woods. She kept her eyes on the move, making sure that she didn’t get attacked by anything. She was taller now, but still a small girl that would make a tasty meal for a hungry beast. Glad my wings can carry me small distances now, she thought to herself. Makes this just a bit less scary knowing I can fly away.
The bubbling of the stream comforted her, it kept the night from being too silent and the sudden animal noises from startling her. She crept along the banks of the stream till she heard the shrill mutterings of sleepy Vlidean. Her time with Videe had taught her some of the sounds that Vlidean made, and they always muttered as they bedded down. She followed the noises, making sure to keep track of where the moon was so she could find her way back. After a few minutes, she finally found the originators of the mutterings. Her shoulders slumped when she looked out from behind a tree that she was hiding behind. There were too many of them! She’d get shredded for sure. Pouting to herself, she walked back to the stream. An idea occured to her suddenly, and she looked around for some rocks and branches. Setting up a small cairn she arranged it so that it marked where she left the stream and pointed towards where she’d gone.
I’ll come back here one day! Maybe with Sameal… he can distract them while I grab a chick! Happy with this new idea, she ran back towards home, hoping that her parents hadn’t noticed her absence. As she came upon the house, she saw her father’s shadow moving about on the first floor, good, he’s still cleaning up downstairs, I have time to get to my room and change before he checks up on me! She thought with glee as she flew towards her room. It was close, but she managed to get changed and in bed just in time!
