[Text to Taym: How would you like to get off this island, and have it not lead to being shot at?]

Peyton hit send, then folded her arms and leaned back against the side of the lighthouse to wait. He'd either show up without further prompting, or she'd get a repay asking for clarification or validity. Either way, the dainty Sun was positive he'd take the bait.

For one, he was trying to keep busy, and any mission was guaranteed fill up, at the least, a few hours. For another thing, considering where they were going, and the nature of the mission, it provided an excellent opportunity for Taym to expand his wardrobe beyond the thread bare shirts and worn jeans he'd come with. True, he had been given some hand-me-downs from bix, but super hero logos just didn't scream out Taym. Not his style.

Raising her phone again she tapped out another couple of messages, sending them in rapid succession.

[Test to Taym: Leave your coat, we're going under cover.]

[Test to Taym: Bring your wallet.]

It worked. It worked astonishingly well. Taym showed up in record time, and although he'd seen the word "undercover" there was only so much he could do to not look like Taym. He had on his trainee scarf and an astonishingly ugly and ill-fitting flannel jacket with sleeves so long he'd had to roll them up to his knuckles, anticipating fall weather off-island and wondering vaguely if they wouldn't end up in Australia or something instead, which would be just about his usual luck.

He was on his phone when he showed up, but whatever he was doing, his skinny fingers all over the screen, he wasn't texting Peyton. He barely glanced up.

"What's the assignment?" he asked distractedly.

Peyton saw him come, saw what he was wearing, and had only just barely managed to school her features by the time he had reached her. Sure, she was dressed for fall as well. Long sleeved shirt, vest over that, scarf hanging limply across her shoulders. She'd also swapped out her usual shorts for a pair of well fitting jeans with the knees ripped out. She looked like what she was, a teenager.

At his question she smirked, not that'd he'd see it with his attention focused oh so intently down at his phone--what was he even doing?. "Shopping." It was said simply, without any elaboration. She was enjoying this.

"What," he said abstractedly, "like--emergency supplies? Are we--"

He didn't finish. He trailed off into silence and stared at his phone, and then put it into his pocket, gazing out towards the sea, and took on the distracted expression of someone doing math in his head. He closed his eyes. He looked exactly like he was going to puke. Or maybe cry. Or maybe pass out. Possibly he was going to attempt all three, in a marvelous sudden panic trifecta.

The problem became apparent immediately: "I have so much money," he whispered. He said that like you'd say "I have a tumor in my right lung" or "I have bad news about the dog" or "I have a house right in the storm path."

Her head tilted at the sudden distracted appearance, the closing of his eyes, and lastly the whisper. The words said one thing, but his tone said quite another, and she didn't really understand it. "Is that a bad thing?" Peyton had money, too. More money then she'd ever personally owned in her life, though, being as young as she was, that wasn't unusual. She wasn't used to it, so she seldom spent it.

"And no, not like emergency supplies. Actual shopping, like for clothes and junk." and junk, to Peyton, being Christmas presents. It was November, the holidays were around the corner, this might be the only chance she was going to get to buy presents for her friends. There was no way she wasn't going to take advantage of that.

Taym still instinctively measured his money in terms of how many days he could sustain a high. This was a large number at the moment.

Luckily her comment snapped him back to reality, and the panic drained out of him to be replaced by a dull disbelief.

"I thought portals were only up for missions. Not personal shopping expeditions. Oh god," he said suddenly. "I can get cigarettes."

No you can't, Taym. No you can't. Nonetheless: "Lead the ******** way but I'm not going to hold your purse while you try on shoes or whatever," he informed her, still not grasping that this was anything but Peyton dragging him along, inexplicably, on a personal shopping trip. He was in for a shocker.

She would have corrected his assumption of them heading out on a personal shopping trip, but his purse comment earned him a level glare as she spread her arms to indicate that she wasn't carrying anything so much as a clutch wallet. There was the very real temptation to throw him a one fingered salute as she pushed away from the lighthouse wall and made her way to the door.

There was a hunter waiting for them, and Peyton stopped in front of him, obediently holding out her hand for the dice he insisted she roll. She, at least, knew what to expect here, so she rolled it with a measure resignation. It landed, and the hunter stepped back to activate a golem that looked exactly like Edith. Peyton had never met Edith, she knew next to nothing about the woman. She was thankful for the shopping list that came along with the golem.

Folding it, she tucked it into a slim wallet, then tucked that into her back pocket. Then she stepped back and waited for Taym to do his rolling and receive his golem and shopping list. At this point she'd regained her smile. Surely by now her friend would be beyond confused.

Taym didn't know what to expect, but being handed the die by the portal techs was nothing but ominous, through and through.

"Et tu?" he demanded of Peyton, resignation in his voice as he rolled the bones without knowing what he was rolling for. "Undercover," he added sarcastically, under his breath.

"I got a four," he announced, sounding miserable even though he didn't know what that meant. It couldn't mean anything good.

He was delivered a golem that he vaguely recognized as H. He'd never actually interacted with H. His knowledge of H was all hearsay. He also received a list, which he looked over with a disbelieving snort before folding it up and shoving it into his back pocket.

"This is ******** up," he informed Peyton.

The latin was answered with a raise of pale brows and questioning smile. She didn't ask for a translation, she understood that one.

She waited for him to receive his golem. H apparently, though like Taym, Peyton had never met the life lead. If it had come down to trying to purchase things for their respective golem based on nothing more then prior knowledge they would have been in trouble. It was a really good thing they were given lists.

"This," she pointed out dryly. "Is the only chance we have to get off the island that isn't going to put us in immediate danger." Hopefully. "And will allow for a chance to pick up things we've been needing." Probably not cigarettes. "Clothes, personal hygiene products, even food." The last was said with a gentle lit, head tilting to one side. She knew how much he loathed the MRE's, he was always talking about 'real food'. There was candy in malls, and food courts, and ice cream. It wasn't five star by any means, but it wasn't prepackaged and meant to withstand the passage of time.

She gave her golem a push towards the portal, then walked through after it, and right into the corner of the least densely populated branch of some unknown mall in the middle of shopping season. "This is going to be interesting."

"This place is a dump," hissed Taym through his teeth. And indeed it was. Everything looked to be in the thick of some sort of pre-holiday renovation, leaving options limited. Naturally. He watched the H and Edith golems and wordlessly shoved up a sleeve to show Peyton the hairs standing up on the back of his arms. They were, to be fair, highly unsettling, with their blank and placid faces.

"This ******** has Dom Perignon on his list," he informed her. "******** Dom Perignon. In a mall. Is he out of his goddamned mind? And Scotch! In a mall!"

He found a ********. ********," he said. "Madame Paulette's isn't even on here? What the ******** is--" he checked the list, and then the directory, "--West 49? I'm going to assume we can't get surgical gloves and pregnancy tests there. Why the ******** does H need a--oh god."

(Coach, Valentino, Victoria's Secret (oh good), H+M, and West 49)

"Yeah, but.." She made a face, looking around them at what was still open and what was currently closed. "Yeah." Taym was right, this was not what she was expecting. The lack of available stores was going to make things tricky.

She fished her shopping list out of her pocket to look it over as the other intermediate ranted, but paused half way down it to frown. "He's got what?" Had she hear that right? The dainty Sun moved closer and craned her neck to read the list in Taym's hand. There it was, right at the bottom. Pregnancy test strip. Whyyyy?

"Let's, um.. Let's just start at the closest place that's likely to have something we need, yeah?" She checked her list, checked his, looked up at the directory, and immediately flushed. Without saying anything she plucked at Taym's sleeve to get him moving, shoved along their golems, and headed for the pale pink and white store front of Victoria's Secret. There would be things inside with sports teams on them, along with sports bras, other bras, probably shorts.

She pushed the Edith!golem inside and immediately moved towards a wall of t-shirts hanging up with various sports names and mascots blazed across the fronts and pulled one down to hold up against the front of the moon lead's double. "I want that one instead." Peyton blinked, glanced down at the shirt, glanced back up at the wall, then shrugged and grabbed the one the golem was staring at. "Yeah, alright."

"Wait!" Said the H golem suddenly, as Taym grinned a wolfish and oblivious grin at the Victoria's Secret shopgirl who was staring at him with unveiled skepticism. Certainly he and Peyton and Edith and H were an odd group. "I forgot something."

Bewildered, he allowed the golem to lead him out of the store, only to gaze up at the gleaming letters and the mostly-naked women in the windows, and lead him back in. Well, OK then.

He peered over Peyton's shoulder at her list and, discreetly, maneuvered himself into a position where he could reach into the back of Edith!Golem's shirt and check the tag on her bra without being seen by any employees, glaring at Peyton with an expression that dared her to say anything. This was a mission, dammit. Size thus acquired, he made a helpless gesture at a display of push-up bras before selecting one of the proper size more or less at random and thrusting it wordlessly into Peyton's hands. An employee drifted back by to gaze at them suspiciously, and Taym offered up another grin. Shameless.

"Straight for the Victoria's Secret," he whispered into Peyton's ear, teasing and indulgent. He was a bit overloaded at the moment from the stress of the noise and the people, and was apparently using this as his outlet. "What kind of message are you trying to send?"

Peyton had been too busy looking for the athletic section of the store to notice H!Golem and Taym wander back into the plaza before returning immediately into the store. Which was just as well. Less the blonde had to worry about.

When she found the section of the store she was looking for she checked the label on the push-up Taym had thrust into her hands, then grabbed a sports bra in the appropriate size. She didn't know what colors Edith would like, so she went for something neutral. She also grabbed a pair of spandex blend shorts while she was there, so she could mark them both of her list.

This is what she was doing, pen in hand, when Taym leaned over to whisper in her ear, and she startled so violently it was a miracle she hadn't ripped the damn thing in half. Blushing furiously she turned to the man, noted the smile, then gave an incoherent, flustered squeak in response before leading Edith!Golem away to the check out line so she could pay for her wears.

Maybe, just maybe, she'd managed to sneak a little something for herself as well, and maybe, just maybe, there was a slightly smaller pink and white striped bag along with the larger one, but she made no mention of it as she headed for the exit with her Golem in tow. "Let's go, Taym, we're heading to the next store." Her tone was curt and no nonsense, and matched the flustered, stubborn set of her features as she breezed past him without so much as glance.

It was a relief to hit the plaza again, and Peyton gave the trailing duo of hunter and golem a withering look before looking up at the next store. Coach. She'd taken two steps towards it when her Golem dug it's heels in and declared rather adamantly that it was not going in there.

"Oookay." That was fine, they could skip that one, she doubted Coach was going to have anything either of them needed anyways. "We'll pick a new store."

Which is how they ended up staring up at the luxury storefront of Valentino instead.

"Valentino seems out of place here," Taym informed Peyton, apparently somewhat more apprised of luxury brands and their demographic distribution than one might suspect. He looked back down at the list and decided that given that H was shopping for Dom Perignon, he might also be interested in acquiring a tie from Valentino. Taym wasn't sure how much a tie from Valentino cost. He suspected it was a lot but with resignation moved to go in.

"Go look around," he hissed at Peyton, knowing exactly what was about to happen.

Given the way Taym was dressed, it was borderline miraculous he wasn't immediately shown the door. As it was, he was tailed by highly suspicious shop clerks glaring at him. Probably the presence of the H golem was the only thing that was keeping him from being unceremoniously booted out.

Which made it kind of sweet when Taym selected a tie--with much more concern and care than his random snatching of a bra a store back--and H's golem informed him that he was impressed.

Taym shot the floor assistants a dirty "bite me" look and went to pay, eager to get the hell out of there as fast as possible, still withering under their judgmental eyes.

When he turned for the door he, too, had had his turn at being red-faced. He looked, for the second time of the day, like he wanted to throw up.

"I need new clothes," he told her under his breath. "But I can't ********' afford Valentino and they know it."
