Past
'It's been a long day' the scientist thought as transferred bacteria from one petri dish to another. All day he had been transferring cell cultures, applying them to animals, studying them, bacteria this microphage that. The research being done at the facility would bring about changes in the medical world people would once have never thought possible. At this thought he smiled to himself. His work for the day was almost done, all that was left was to check on the test subjects.
Pulling off his gloves he walked over to a large steal door, he then punched in a code and put his eye up to the screen for the retina scan. After a short moment the lock mechanism disengaged with an audible sliding of metal. The Scientist entered through the door and went straight back to the adjoining room, grabbing a clipboard and pencil for notes. He hadn't noticed the silence when he'd first entered the room, he'd been sitting in silence the last 3 hours concentrating on his work. Upon entering the room his heart sank. All of his beloved test subjects were dead. The man screamed in frustration and anger, he had that he'd finally gotten close, that finally, he would be able to fix what was broken in his life.
The man slumped to the floor and mourned his defeat for hours, occasionally letting out a cry or yell for his own pitiful thoughts. Finally, he couldn't bear to look at his failures anymore, he gathered the various animals into garbage bags and shoved them down the garbage chute. He knew this was no way to properly dispose of the test subjects but after so many failures he really didn't care.
It was months later before the repercussions of the man's actions began to surface. The bacteria within the improperly disposed of animals lived on, replicating and dividing over and over every few minutes. The bacteria became a disease that continued to change and morph until it airborne, and finally seeped out into the world. People began to contract a sickness, it wouldn't kill them but it would cause excruciating pain leaving the host in agony from anywhere between 8 and 12 hours, afterwards the person would seem fine, as if it had never happened at all. At least until they came in contact with a trigger, at which time their cells would undergo structural transformation through chemical processes. However, it has been confirmed that the cells revert back to their original form once the patient is isolated from the trigger.
Present
The mutation is running rampant and the general population is in disarray. People are fighting among one another as they try to decide if their friends and family are still people or if they are just monsters. Opinions range from subdued to extreme, there and mutant hunters and mutant protectors of all sorts, and then there is the government. Only they are the ones that truly know what is happening to the people when the sickness takes over. After all it was the government who funded the research, they had requested it be completed.
With the opinions and mutants running about unchecked so are stories as to where the disease came from, and the last thing the government wants is for the truth to be revealed. As such mutants are being gathered up by the government, some disappear but others are executed. In retaliation a small group of people has formed to get to the bottom things. They, like everyone else, want to know where it came from, and why.

there are more mutations than this and they can be found on the profile page (link above) Aves
Mutation: Arms become wings
Trigger: Higher than average oxygen content in the air (unpolluted and clean air areas)
Benefits: Allows person to glide from high places and sometimes fly over short gaps
Pisces
Mutation: Fish like tail
Trigger: Sea or lake water
Benefits: Increased swim speed (can not breath underwater)
Canis
Mutation: Detail Unknown
Sepiida
Mutation: Detail Unknown

Additional Information
This Rp will be a moderated RP, meaning that MuddLock or myself there are tons of NPCs which we will control but there are a few that the players are free to control as well (just make sure to read about their limitations on the profile page in their designated profile ^^ )
This Rp has modern technology and modern style laws with some twists. Transportation is limited, there are vehicles but no roads outside the city. (farmers use horse drawn carriage and beyond the farmlands it's all wilderness, there is only one city (- where the rp begins/takes place).
If you would like your character to start out human or you just aren't sure what you want to do, you can always mutate later! Also starting out as a human and becoming a mutant later is a good way to add depth to your character, as well as give you time to think about your mutation type. Only certain people are affected by the mutation bacteria, but the bacteria is always mutating so people who weren't affected before could become infected later.
Please keep in mind that we are open to other mutation suggestions. If there is a type of mutation you want to have pass it by us and we will think it over. However that are a couple of rule when concerning mutations
1. Must be animal related
2. You cannot gain an unfair advantage from your mutation (it can only increase/amplify an ability already in the human repertoire)
3. All mutations have to have a trigger
4. You cannot grow additional limbs, the limbs you have are simply modified (ie: you cannot grow wings out of your back, but you could have a tail as it is an elongation of the spine)
If the RP does happen then I will PM people who were interested in joining when the RP is open
Minimum post length: one paragraph

(your blood wouldn't make sense as you are always in contact with it =])
