General Reminders
Read ALL relevant information to creating a character. The most important, basic, information can be found in "Additional Setting + Character Info" and "A Guide to Summoning". It's also a good idea to take a look at the "Newbie Guide" if you're new.
Stay true to the setting when creating characters. Personal character style should reflect the general feel of the times and setting. No characters with ipods and purple hair, please!
Players are reminded that a Summoner can only have one Hound, and vice versa. They can also only have one familiar. Whysts can only have one familiar.
Your human does not need to have a Hound or a familiar to be played. Just remember that until your Summoner gets a Hound, or your Whyst gets a familiar, they cannot be written as if they already have one.
Normal humans are also playable characters. They have no magical ability, but can still be fun for plot reasons!
Names for human characters, just like for hounds and familiars, should be unique. This is to prevent confusion. However, do keep in mind that names have limitations. Please see the "Naming Rules" on the front page of the shop for additional info.
Keep in mind that magic is limited by a person's energy and that feats done through magic cost MORE energy than if done naturally or by hand -- the tradeoff is that the feat may be done more quickly/creatively than if done by hand.

IMPORTANT points to keep in mind!
DO NOT make up huge, setting/meta/lore changing events in your character's history or summoning, or anywhere else. This is a no no. Unless events have ALREADY occurred in the Meta plot, there's no way you have any real idea of what's going to happen, and it hasn't happened yet. Don't do it.
Summoning can ONLY take place in the Caverns! Ever! No exceptions.
There are no books or other 'explanations' or 'guides' for the summoning process in the caverns. Just the strange, heavy, magic that takes over the person. They are not conscious, or aware, of this happening. When they wake up, there's a portal, and they can choose to create a pact with the hound at this point or not. PLEASE read more about this process in "A Guide to Summoning"!
Hounds are ALWAYS summoned, through the portal, as a puppy - even if they were an adult before crossing through. It takes a lot of energy to move through a portal to another realm, and this is the hound's way of making that 'leap.' They'll soon grow back to their full strength, however, in about 4-6 months ICCly.
Hounds cannot speak to anyone telepathically but their own summoner, and other hounds. This is limited. Puppies can only communicate basic emotions, whereas adults can communicate images and words, as well as complex emotional feelings.
Keep magic within limits.

My Summoner didn't have a hound before, and now they do?
In order for an Aelfir to be approved as a Summoner you MUST update their profile in the Character Approvals thread. Simply copy the second form to have it looked over and approved a second time. The reason for this is that you are adding a new character (the Hound) to their profile, and we need to make sure they're setting-appropriate.

Naming Guidelines
FANTASY NAMES::
"Fantasy Names" :: This means a completely made-up or fantasy and has no actual ties to any existing language. Of course, there is a chance that some fantasy names (Alucard, Neras, etc) might be names you can find with a quick google search but still fit the feel we're going for.

Your best bet, in this case, is to simply use some sort of fantasy name generator, or make a name up yourself. A good way to do this might be to combine various names together that you like until you get something unique.

HUMAN NAMES::
Human names can be "fantasy names" or real names, but in either case should still have a more "English" or "European" feel to them, as the setting is somewhat modeled after England in terms of how it looks and operates.

Names from other European countries will most likely be fine since a lot of names have the same roots. Many Russian, French, Irish, etc, names should all be fine to pull from.

On the other hand, African, or Asian names may not always be suitable if they sound obviously foreign. This can even be the case with some European names. It's just a matter of using your better judgement, in most cases, and knowing when a name is obviously too far fetched.

Here are a few good name generators:
Rinkworks : Fantasy Name Generator :: Has different name-type options from short to long or other 'feels'. You can even make up your own name formula if you're so inclined.
Fantasy Name Generators :: Has LOTS of different name generators of various types from general "fantasy character" to "elven" and even "villain" names. Look around and see what you might find!
