Wrathful Demigod

So it had been a few days now, and all of Peyton's laundry was washed, folded, and tucked away nicely in her dresser and closet. Her end of the bargin had been fulfilled, and now it was time to collect from the one that had been responsible for her wardrobes recent upkeep.

So she was standing outside Taym's door in a purple tanktop and cream shorts. Legs covered from the thighs down by a pair of argyle thigh highs, with dainty feet resting in very worn old leather ankle boots. She had her jacket on today. A sleeveless number with a loose hood. It was sort of hanging off one shoulder as she brought her hand up to knock on his door.

Even if she couldn't get him to come out and play she did owe him a bit of gratitude for the cupcake he'd left for her. Not to mention all the clean laundy.

She was really hoping to get him out on the training field though.

There was a long pause before the door opened, and when it did he was still shrugging into his coat with his scarf hanging loose, hair sleep-disheveled and eyes bleared and heavy-lidded, although judging from the state of his clothes he'd slept in them. Also, apparently Taym woke up in a positively majestic state of stubble. He probably turned into a (really skinny) lumberjack if you let him go three or four days without a razor.

He looked at Peyton with a temporary lack of comprehension, and then with dawning dread. He propped his elbow on the doorframe and his forehead in his hand and made a noise of utter disgust, like she was a flaming bag of dog s**t in front of his ********," he said.

The smile she'd been wearing when the door opened had momentaily taken on an amused lit as she'd taken in the general 'just roused' appearance of him, but it wilted quickly when he made a sound that wasn't entirely friendly before simply swearing out right. Pale eyes blnked once, twice, then narrowed into something cool. "Good morning to you, too."

Well, she had been swell mood, now she wasn't sure. Thin arms crossed, chin jerking up as she eyed him. "Clearly you know why I'm here. So nice to know you're excited." The sarcasm was strong with this one.

He was scrubbing his eyes, hard, and gave himself a shake like a wet dog before he answered. <********' thrilled," he deadpanned, tucking up the ends of his scarf and patting down his pockets for his cigarettes, which he had been carefully rationing and was nonetheless burning through faster than he'd intended. "Don't know what I was expecting to open the door to, but not this." This encompassed Peyton, although probably he just meant the prospect of getting his a** kicked.

Probably.

He stepped into the hall, closing the door behind him. "Lead the ********' way."

She regarded him cooly as he complained, eyes rolling, then stepped aside as he exitted his room and closed the door behind him. As directed, none-to-kindly, she started leading the way down to the training fields. Small hands disappearing into the pockets of her shorts. "It's like I'm walking you down the green mile," she commented drily, a fair amount of her initial excitment having melted away.

"Close enough," he griped, turning his head to exhale distractedly. He had his phone out in the hand not occupied with a cigarette, a convenient excuse to avoid focusing on her or anything else.

He was thinking about Bix putting the blade through his hand. Bix hadn't reacted, but Taym was having a hard time believing it didn't hurt, and a few timid attempts to recreate the feat in the privacy of his own room had resulted in him chickening out and Fiona gently chiding him for his lack of fortitude.

She snorted, slowing her pace so she was walking beside him, instead of before him. Lavender eyes flocked to the side, eyeing the phone in his hand as he started down at it. Last she'd checked he hasn't posted any picture for his Twitter account. W hiping out her phone she did a quick double check before staring at him side long for a minute.

Without warning she reached out and snatched the phone right out of his bony hand and danced out of reach, grinning almost evily. "It's high time your Twitter had a face." The phone was up, pointed in his direction with her finger hovering over the button on the side. "Smile Taym."

His reflexes were at least quick enough that her shot got little besides a raised middle finger, face turned away in disgust. "********' paparazzi," he deadpanned, making a lunging grab for the phone that didn't have much hope of connecting. "That thing isn't public property, you know? I'm going to have you written up, or fed to a werewolf, or whatever it is they do around here." And he was clearly pissed, but he seemed equally joking--almost relieved, like a little piece of levity was an unexpected comfort. He caught her arm.

She was very happily, and very deftly, keeping out of his reach as she went about seeing the picture to his profile with the lightning speed that seemed to come to all young people theses days where technology was concerned. By the time he'd caught her arm she'd already excited out of the app and was holding it out away from him in her opposite hand. "That's new? Is that really wuss, considering where we're headed?"

Smirking, she tossed the phone back at him. "And they don't reprimand us forborrowing a friend's phone, just fyi."

She might have been surprised by how deftly Taym could handle a phone too, when his hands were being cooperative. For all he looked so much older than her, there wasn't that much of a gap, and he'd held down jobs, fleeting though they were, that demanded a level of technical expertise.

He caught the phone grumpily, but didn't even bother to go wipe the picture off. ******** it. Into his pocket it went. He pointedly flicked his ash at her, knowing she was too far away for it to make a difference. "So how does this work? You punch me in the face and I try to stab you in the gut? Seems dangerous."

There was a stirring in his head, something like excitement. Fionnghal was suppressing her relief at the idea of drinking up FEAR again, and it made him nervous.

A grin was directed up at him as he flicked ash at her, and she pulled her arm out of his grip when thin fingers loosened. "It'll get to that, but we'll start with going over a few of the more important things, like charges and what not." It wasn't entirely informative, but she'd explain better when they got to where they were going. Which would be soon. She could see the practice dummies growing in the distance.

As they stepped onto the grassy lawn and headed towards the packed dirt that sat at the center of the field she jogged ahead a few paces and turned, walking backward so she could look up at him as she shrugged out of her coat. She had learned early, day one in fact, that sparring in the white jackets was a bad idea.

"So, I dunno what you know about shields or charges, if anything, so we'll just take it from the top." Reaching the large circle of hard, dusty ground, the teen hung her coat on one of the dummies. "Our partners are more then weapons, they protect us from things that would seriously injure or even kill a normal person." Returning to the circle she summoned Warrick. The demon let out an excited sigh, eager. "You really could stab me in the gut, and it wouldn't do a hell of a lot, at first." The last was emphisized, features going serious briefly before she fell back into an easy smile.

"Every hit we take weakens our shield. Every hit you land on something made up of fear, be it someones shield, or one of the monesters, your weapon absorbs fear. When it gathers enough you'll be able to do something pretty ******** awesome." She was holding one small hand out, the spikes of her knuckledusters pointing at him. "Either a really powerful attack, some defensive move, or something else entirely. Your weapon will let you know when she's ready."

<Enough talk, Halfpint. Let me taste him.> Warrick's voice rolled though her mind in a soft growl. He was getting impatient.

"If your shield breaks, you will get hurt. If you take a big enough hit without a shield you will die." Her head tilted, smile growing into something closer to a smirk. "Got all that?" Peyton was made for Sun. She might have been small, but she was fit, and better yet, she enjoyed fighting. It was obvious, in the way she talked, the way she held herself, even now while they were still just talking.

He liked her better like this: it was galling to get a lecture, but Peyton talked like she was describing a fine wine, or a good book. Like she liked it. He tried to follow, to take it all in; hearing that Fiona would know what to do, even if he didn't, was insulting and reassuring at once.

He liked her better like this, but it made him nervous.

He left his coat on.

Fionnghal was a sudden weight in his fingers, and he rotated the blade unthinkingly, ice-pick gripped, and he watched Peyton warily when her tirade had finished, not quite sure of how to react. His usual wary slouch seemed more at home, here.

The thought occurred to him: why not just go? Why wait? Just try and catch her off her guard, if she's so ******** cocky.

So he did try. Badly.

She took his sudden lung to mean he understood. Unfortunately for him, once Peyton was on the field, she was on guard. As he came towards her she jerked down and to the right, palm coming up to grab his arm and push it to the side as she pivoted on the spot and let his momentum carry him past her.

It was her turn to strike, and she hit before he could recover. One small hand snapped up, shoulder rolling to throw her whole tiny body into the blow as she dug spike tipped knuckles into his lower back on the side. A solid kidney shot.

Warrick drank up the fear, snarling his praise to his tiny partner.

She probably shoudl have mentioned that they were all stronger then the human norm now, so despite her diminutive size, there was a lot power packed into the punch.

"Son of a b***h," he managed.

It wasn't the most graceful blow, but it managed to land: the advantage of the knuckles to Taym, of course, was that she had to n** in close to use them, and so even his clumsy backwards stab met flesh and FEAR shield with a sensation both satisfying and stomach-turning.

He tried to stumble away from her almost immediately. He didn't want to hit girls. He especially did not want to stab them. But mostly, he didn't want her to do that again.
