So the video's now out. Have you seen it?

If you haven't seen it yet hurry before we give away any spoilers and come back to tell us what you think.
Go to Gorillaz-Unofficial or Yahoo music UK. I know you know how to use google.
You could also just wait until Gorillaz.com puts it up or if you're in the UK like me, you can wait until 10.55pm on C4. Then again, all of the above sounds great.

Now as for me, I don't think the video fitted the song too well, but maybe that's just me. C'mon share your opinions.

I agree im not sure what it had to do with the song, but all in all i did love the video. Great animation, but as we might have thought because of the song its pretty depressing.

WOW! I love the video. I'm worried about Noodle though. I guess this explains why her room is empty. However, I did picture the music video for this song as a sad depressing video, so I'm not surprised.

The single cover is really cool, but looks depressing.

The "El Manana" video is probably the darkest single the Gorillaz have ever put out. Think about it: all their other videos (from the zombie-flick parody of "Clint Eastwood" to 2D's spastic emo dancing in "Dirty Harry") had their light moments. "El Manana" is somber. It comes across like a sequel to "Feel Good, Inc.," only with an even greater feeling of despair.

SPOILERS AHOY! (Highlight to read if, like me, you're a spoiler whore.)

Now I'm going to try and wrench some symbolism out of the video. As I've mentioned, it could be a sequel to the video for FGI. The windmill, to me, symbolizes idealism even in a dark and sinister world. In "El Manana," the windmill is attacked by the government helicopters which appeared at the end of the "Feel Good, Inc." video, chasing Noodle on the flying windmill-island. "El Manana" might represent, then, the destruction of the innocent and defenseless at the hands of oppressive governments/situations. (Yes, I've been paying attention in school too much! TwT)

Other points to consider: The art for "El Manana" in the Demon Days booklet shows the Grim Reaper dangling from a military helicopter. The helicopter motif returns in this video, and, in fact, the helicopters are the forebringers of destruction (and possibly...death? Death for Noodle-chan? -cries-)
And remember in "Feel Good Inc.", 2D sings of the windmill "It is sinking, falling down." Don't those words sound chilling, now that it's been the windmill's fate.

All in all, "El Manana" was always one of my favorite songs on "Demon Days," and I think this new video is excellent. It's emotional, it's moving, and that's what makes it work.

I was worried because El Manana is my favorite Gorillaz song so I was a little worried the video wouldn't be something I liked all that much. Personally I am so happy with it! I don't even care that you didn't see the rest of the band! I thought it was absolutely beautiful! It's definitely my favorite Gorillaz video now.

...

Okay favorite serious Gorillaz video.

Oh and Tsuyoko I hope you don't mind but I marked the topic as containing spoilers and stickied it so hopefully we won't have a million people starting their own threads.

If so the magical mods will strike them down. DOWN I SAY! ninja

okay, i have my theory rant now.

we tend to forget that Noodle is a manufactured super-soldier wunderkid. she'll make it through this -- she was designed to, after all. i think the KWG video will be her recovering and the band moving on, and the dramatic bit at the end will be revealing who the pilots are.

now, Noodle's room being empty on the Kong website adds some suspense, but like i said, Noodle is almost definitely alive. she's probably redecorating. i mean, look at her room on the site and her room in DARE. they're nothing alike! i think that Jamie's just going for some synchroniscity, and is using the cliffhanger of the El Manana video as a backdrop. here we are, sobbing on our keyboards with El Manana playing, agonizing about them clearing Noodle's stuff out and it turns out she's just going to be painting or something.

so there you go, i think it seems entirely possible.

El Manana song is unlike any other Gorillaz songs which sound happy and carefree...
It's kinda depressing..

I imagined the video will be somehow different and dark, but I never tought about it being so depressing and sad.
It's very deep, especially towards the end when the windmill falls, It hurts to see noodle like that.

I like the animation, it's so smooth and the colors are great.
Many people say the song doesn't match with what happened in the video, but I think it's great and match perfectly. The song is great, the animation is perfect in my opinion...reminds me of Hayao Miyazaki's works

Yes. It was beautiful. El Manana is my second most played song on iTunes and I was so happy when they announced they were releasing it. Still, I want to know what on earth they were playing at with that video. I must know what happens next! *o*

The video was so gorgeous, even when everything was destroyed.

Oh and Lady Leonardo I don't mind the spoiler note, I forgot to do that myself and I'm quite happy to have it stickied. ^ ^

i am very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, VERY upset by it all. the DA Gorillaz fanbase is up in arms over the whole thing. its hard to watch! i can't get the last image of Noodle screaming as the windmill falls out of my head crying poor thing...i did cry.

The artwork for El Manana in Demon Days-

I fough' tha' it was like one of those helicopters that pull wounded soldiers off th'battlefield; so it could mean tha' even the Grim Reaper is over his head (since there's so much dying in th'world now).

I haven't seen th'video. But from what I hear, it needs more spastic dancing on 2D's part.

But remember, kids. Gorillaz treat all of th'music videos as, well, music videos; they say that go over and shoot th'videos (as in, Noodle was acting), and I doubt in a video they would decide to really kill th'guitarist. That'd be a...I dunno...Marilyn Manson kinda fing (erg. Scary) So I'll bet Noodle's just fine.

Excellent point. You guys are all so intellectual. I would never've read so much into the video. It makes all sorts of sense though.

My thought: The video was excellent. Yes, it made me incredibly sad, especially the close up of Noodle as her beloved island was crashing to earth. But of course I don't think that this is the end of her.

I give it a 10/10. Excellent video, I think it is my favorite.
