The Twins

Basic Description
Physically, I'm leaving this up to the artist. They are going to be twins, but other than that, I can just tell you that they are going to be very human looking. Colors may be odd, but thats about it and I'll let you know when I have a better idea.

Initial Concept:
The two emotions are very different, but they mesh well and are both related to Obsession. Desires are wants. Passion is enthusiasm. If you want something but don't have the enthusiasm to get it, you won't get it.
They tend to work together to, essentially, tantrum. Mi wants things. He wants everything and anything. He is very needy, to say the least.
Tal is bursting with enthusiasm and possibly (if she ends up a poet) will wax poetic about lots of things. She doesn't really know what she wants, she just knows that she is shaking with excitement and the nearest thing to her is absolutely HER THING.
As for their effects on the people around them, they tend to stick together so Desire and Passion inflame ambition in others- people tend to work harder and look higher and feel both more- and somehow less- fulfilled around them when they are broadcasting.

Together, they do help balance each other out, as Mihiil is sort of lazy and Talaas doesn't really want anything in particular- she just enjoys things. The way this works is that her brother wants things and she is passionate about getting what her brother wants, or in the opposite direction, that her br

Apart, however: Mihiil's constant need to have things (but unwillingness to work or to get them) can lead him to either become moody (because he isnt getting what he wants) or steal (because he can't be bothered to ask), and Talaas's constant enthusiasm and lack of focus can lead her to burn energy and do nothing.

Romance will likely be tricky and cause problems. Talaas will be frustrated because Mihiil will likely have issues with his sister being passionate about his lover, and Mihiil will be jealous of anybody Talaas ever even dates because he wants them too. The best course, of course, would be to share a lover, but that could cause as many problems as it solves. Even beyond the obvious wierdness, their emotions can easily turn into borderline dangerous obsessions, like stalking.

One thing that they will share is a dislike of losing, either games or things. Mihiil will want the win and Talaas will be frustrated that her energy did not cause a win.

Here are their manifestations in short: Talaas cares about everything, a champion to every cause. Mihiil wants everything, but doesn't care enough to ask for it.

Guardian: While the original prompt had them living with the siblings Lil and Gal, they may be better suited to Malta and Poe. While Lil works for the Dreamery, she is a highly chaotic individual, as is her brother. The question is, do the twins need stability or someone who can keep up? Do they need a calming pair, or an easily-trained pair?

Hatching
Name: Talaas

Minor Stage: Preteen

Dream Type: Emotional

Specific 'Nature' Passion

Personality:

Talaas is a crusader at heart, a passionate defender and advocate to her very core. Of what... well, who knows. The day is still young. She never knows what will light her up next. Will it be a person, a cause, an object? Will it be more than one of these? She has enough energy to go around. If she was a troublemaker, her boundless energy and unchained enthusiasm would be overwhelming. Its enough of a handful, though, that she simply can't sit still. Theres always something that needs her- HER- support.
Thankfully, the sorts of things she gets passionate about tend to be 'positive';Save the Elephants! Save the Whales! Save the Spotted owl! Stop all bullying in the school! Give her brother that new thing he wants!
Well, maybe not the last one.
Her enthusiasm and excitement can turn into obsessions. She is capable of sustaining multiple obsessions at once, and does so. It's stressful to her and to those around her, because she has no time for herself. She is surrounded by so many things that others have started and that she supports, sometimes she wonders what SHE really wants. It frustrates her that she can't 'turn it off'.
She often expresses herself artistically through poetry, writing, and visual media. She may not be the best painter or writer, but she does have a sense for powerful language and how colors work together.
Because there is so much on her mind, and so many causes to work on, her long term planning abilities suffer.
In short, she is an energetic and enthusiastic individual who needs someone who can steady her and keep her from overloading herself.

Hatching

Name: Mihiil

Minor Stage: Preteen

Dream Type: Emotional

Specific 'Nature' Desire

Personality:

Mihiil isn't a bad boy, on the contrary. He's a sweetheart. He has great social skills, he says the right things at the right times, and he has an absolutely angelic smile that, with his bright eyes and dimples, warms you right to the soul. He's quite talkative, even, chattering away about his interests- technology, colors, and things he wants (of course) and why he wants them (if he knows)
He certainly is not malicious, even if sometimes he can get a little moody and unhappy. He has never hit anybody, or gotten into a fight. Its just too much trouble for him- he doesn't like to do more work than is absoulutely necessary, and fights are a lot of work! As are grudges and, well, anything else he doesn't want to do.
Yes, in other words, he is a bit lazy. He doesn't like to spend the effort to get what he wants. Admittedly, he wants everything, and that is a lot of things to try and get, but he just doesn't want to do more than say 'hey, i want this, can I have it'. It would be perfect if the things he wanted just flew off the shelves and landed on his lap.
They don't do that.
Not getting what he wants may make him cranky, but he's smart enough to know that things don't work like that, that they can't work like that. He's proud of the fact that he's not manipulating anybody into doing things, because he understands that that is a bad thing to do.
Plus, its a lot of effort, and it requires long-term planning skills he doesn't have. The skills he does have are people skills, math skills, and he is very good at reading and reading comprehension, as well as wrangling technology. These are all things he can do sitting down and can leave for later if he feels like it.
He is a kid that, despite wanting anything, has a very good idea of what he wants and how to do things. He is rarely ever uncertain. That isn't to say that he isn't wrong, but he's very certain about being wrong. He doesn't budge much except when it takes too much effort to stick by his guns.
In a Nutshell, Mihiil is a nice, smart child with a problem with laziness and neediness. He needs a guardian that can keep him motivated- it's his biggest problem.

Original Prompt

Prompt Choice: B
Prompt Reply:
"But I don't WANT to care!" screamed Talaas, tears running down her face.
"I just want to not need anything!" screamed Mihiil in the other ear.
It was giving Liliedhe a headache. A massive one. Not just from the screaming but from the sheer oomph of the emotions that hit her from both directions. She had just come home from a hard day of work and had been looking forward to saying hi to her two kids and then settling down to a few hours of refining her supernatural conspiracy theories. And then making them dinner and enjoying the company of the twins and her brother instead of falling asleep at the lab.
Instead, she opened the door to two little demons who were both apparently upset about themselves. And had decided to yell at her.
"Well, why the hell are you yelling at me?" she asked, trying to keep her voice calm, even though she was practically swimming in pain, frustration, and outrage.
"Fix it!" they screamed in unison, "We want you to fix it!"
What the hell?
"I'm tired! I don't wanna be excited. I just wanna not care about something, anything." Talaas was on her knees now, crying in despair, "Theres just not enough of me to care about everything but I do anyway and... and..." she hugged Liliedhe's knee, soaking it, unable to speak through her frustration.
Before she could reach down and try to pat the little head and offer some comfort, her other knee was taken. Large eyes looked up at her pleadingly.
"I want to be happy with what I have." it was obvious that Mihiil was biting back his tears, "I want to be good. I want to want nothing." he leaned against her leg. "I can't do it. I tried, and I can't..."

Lil kneeled down and hugged them both. She didn't know what to say. There was nothing to say. They were emotions, after all. They couldn't help what they were, she couldn't help what they were. Even when they didn't want to be what they were... they still were.
Mihiil wanted to want nothing. Talaas cared intensely about not caring. She sat down and pressed the two tightly to her chest. Who cared that her shirt was getting soaked?

She stayed, quietly, like this until she felt the storm of emotions start to subside. She shifted, smiling down at them.
"Hey. Who wants ice cream?" It wouldn't solve anything. They would still be who they were.
But it at least would cheer them up.

Commentary
himatami1313: yaay
himatami1313: oh! I wanted to talk to you about your entry
draconicfeline: should i be filled with dread
himatami1313: mmmmm halfway? I dunno.
himatami1313: i have ups and downs
draconicfeline: oh
himatami1313: ok the thing was
himatami1313: we REALLY liked your concept
himatami1313: but your entry itself felt a bit like it dehumanized the kids
himatami1313: like I got what you were going for
himatami1313: but how you executed it could have been better.
himatami1313: I'd really like it if you quested those characters though
himatami1313: You had a really solid idea there
himatami1313: you write very well. And that was obvious. And you have a good idea of what to do with your characters and obviously care about them. My other judge was a little put off by how the entry felt, and she's the one who first used the one dehumanizing. Personally I more felt you could use a bit more solidifying in the concepts of how the dream type works, which is partly m yfautl cause I was not clear enough XD <3
draconicfeline: so how does it work, then>
himatami1313: There's more possibility to actually tone down those powers. There is actually something that can be done for them
himatami1313: I'm looki nfor the specific poitns I was thinkin of
himatami1313: Mmm I reread and I can't find the line she was mentioning really set her off, (we moved all the entries to a doc so we could read them without judging by people and my cojudge did get a little mixed up at times) but my main thing I noted was there was a slight feeling of hopelessness to your actual prompt response
himatami1313: but with cases as strong as those two
himatami1313: they'd probalby have been given very special instructions beforehand
himatami1313: it was something I could have been clearer on
draconicfeline: I wasnt quite clear on the emotionally charged bit
himatami1313: She felt meanwhile that the guardian was taking things as 'just emotions' which she didnt agree with, so we sorta back and forthed on that
himatami1313: Yeah, that dream type is very under-utilized atm so we haven't explored it as much yet
himatami1313: Can yo utell me what you got out of it or were confused by with it so I can give a mor especific clearing up of it? I'm sorry it's a very new shop XD
himatami1313: it's why I'm very specifically talking to you about it cause it was a damn good concept and I'd like to see it explored more
draconicfeline: Dont be sorry!
draconicfeline: uh. let me try to remember
draconicfeline: I thought that it meant that, because they were based on those emotions, those emotions would interfere with them and unbalance them. I wasnt sure what that would do.
himatami1313: Oh they do. You were on the right track
himatami1313: Just sorta hitting some roadblocks on that track
draconicfeline: I had Lil find herself very uncertain of how to deal with them not wanting to feel the way they felt, because thats just what sort of popped into mind when i wrote it
himatami1313: yeah
draconicfeline: It'd be a challenge for a parent to deal with
himatami1313: of course
himatami1313: Partly the thing to know about young manifests is they are growing to learn to control these things
draconicfeline: to try to balance out?
himatami1313: yes
himatami1313: So this sort of breakdown of 'i dont want to feel this way' could generally lead more to a settling of emotions
draconicfeline: did you notice, though, that even during the breakdown, they were feeling 'that way?'
himatami1313: yes
himatami1313: that's what I'm referencing
draconicfeline: did i forget to make that subtle? XD
himatami1313: XD no you made it very nice and subtle
draconicfeline: lol
himatami1313: that's why I'm emphasizing - quest them. its' a good concept and you're a good writer
himatami1313: it was more like
himatami1313: essentially trying to divide by zero or something
himatami1313: they are doing what they dont want to do about what they dont want to do
himatami1313: it'd paradox their natures
himatami1313: and could actually result in a backlash
himatami1313: where they'd be stuck with neither
himatami1313: with emotion based manifests at a young age, i was trying to put in the prompts but probably got mixed up on
himatami1313: its usually an either or sense
himatami1313: they either will majorly affect someone outside of them
himatami1313: or affect themselves
himatami1313: at least while they're young
himatami1313: and haven't learned to project in or out
himatami1313: and it can switch between and go all over
himatami1313: but it's also going to do things like flop because of boundaries
himatami1313: emotion kids sadly are one of the few who have it worst off
himatami1313: like a mystical or fantastical kid that tries to use magic might just get physical backlash and be a bit hurt
himatami1313: an emotional kid could have their personality radically shifted by it
himatami1313: which is something i think you could REALLY play with
draconicfeline: So what you are saying is that emotion-based kids would have very turbulent mood and personality swings until they could get some sort of handle on themselves
draconicfeline: would a few turn to meds?
himatami1313: yes and yes
himatami1313: it's a very strong possibility that the dreamery would try to help them with this
himatami1313: generally they'd prefer only medication issued from their company
himatami1313: because actual medication made for humans would screw them up
draconicfeline: right, to keep close track of how its working. And that
himatami1313: yea
himatami1313: cause if a kid based on a certain dream type goe son medicatio nfor say depression or adhd meds? it could either not work because it isnt a chemical imablance
himatami1313: or CAUSe a chemical imbalance
draconicfeline: I figure Lil works there, so she would have had serious instruction or training for this?
himatami1313: I am going to say that if it had just been my opinion, you'd have still won, and just had discussion
himatami1313: yes she would have
draconicfeline: ok, so she wouldn't have been an overwhelmed idiot
draconicfeline: XD
himatami1313: because I had a co-judge we debated it out between entries we liked concepts versus entries we liked the entry itself or both etc.

yeah that is another bit XD
himatami1313: so between discussio nwe both agreed your concept was great but the entry itself was your stumbling point
himatami1313: so please, quest them
himatami1313: they are a good set of kids and it'd be great to see whta you did
draconicfeline: I actually have a doc open to make a quest. It was going to be for a supplemental wizard kid but yeah. I'll make a doc for them and chew at it a bit.
