Front Row Seats
[5:34:01 PM] Kelly King: As this is the first installment, allow us to introduce ourselves. I'm Kelly "The One True" King.[5:34:38 PM] The Unlucky One: And I'm "The God of Punks", Matt Shanahan. [5:38:39 PM] Kelly King: We are two of the longest tenured community members on Gaia. Together we have probably seen it all and then some. We have fought and clawed for everything we've ever done, and we know what it was like to be new and fresh like it was yesterday. So we both know that the reason we all do this is to share great stories and writing with others.
In the community, we know that sometimes it can seem like everything you're doing is going unnoticed. No one's paying attention to anything but themselves or the #1 guys. That's why we're here. These are The Front Row Seats. Together, Matt and I are going to delve into each and every guild every week or so and pick out a few of the promos, finished matches, and matches in progress, give our expert critique and review. And best of all, debate. Hopefully this will serve as a source of not only motivation, to be looked at and reviewed, but as a source of postive reinforcement and critique. We want the young people to grow, and the old people to reign in their egos.
This week we've picked out a promo, three matches, and then at the end we'll discuss a match people should be watching as it develops.[5:42:00 PM] The Unlucky One: Yes, we're here to show everyone that your matches are being watched, whether you feel like they are or not. With luck, maybe this will motivate everyone to be more active in their posts and inspire everyone to try their best, even if you don't like your opponent. Enough with formalities though, let's get started, shall we?[5:43:37 PM] Kelly King: Let's. This week there were a lot of promos that we could have looked at, including one between myself and Matt, one involving the WWFG Royal Rumble Winner and GM leading into their WrestleMania feud, and others. But we decided to sit in the Front Row Seats for something a little more unique that we didn't think we could pass up. Cyrus Leone and Salem Croft... with a supporting role by Joe the Pizza Guy.[5:47:49 PM] The Unlucky One: I've gotta say, from the very start of this promo, I was intrigued. I wasn't aware that the Salem vs Cyrus feud was still going on, to be completely honest. I thought this was meant to be a joke promo at first, but Salem makes it clear in his arrival that he meant business. Also, it's rather apparent that he's meant to be a heel; this was a nice switch-up, considering I've only seen him pull off the face style so far.[5:49:56 PM] Kelly King: Yeah, they must have started up at the Rumble or a little earlier. I just showed up there so it's hard for me to say. Right off the bat, I really like how they quote the next poster at the end of the post so no one can come in and interrupt. [5:49:59 PM] Kelly King: It's a clever way.[5:53:25 PM] The Unlucky One: According to the promo, Salem and Cyrus have had business since the 2012 Wrestlemania. But hey, I wasn't even hanging around back then. I do like how they safeguard their promo with the quote, but it takes out an element of surprise for me. Despite knowing that no one else would have a reason to intervene, I like to remain skeptical.[5:54:28 PM] Kelly King: Yeah, funny thing about that. Salem mentions having issues going back from " '12". And when he said that, I didn't see the ' at first so I thought he literally meant WrestleMania 12 and I was like "I don't remember seeing Cyrus and Salem at Arrowhead Pond before the Iron Man Match."[5:56:55 PM] The Unlucky One: You may not have seen, but they were there. Not really. I gotta say over all, I enjoy this promo. Salem shows that he knows how to be the heel in a storyline, and I'm always happy to see The Dream still going strong. Regardless, I feel like Salem was missing one key element. His gimmick. You know what his gimmick is, right? [5:58:10 PM] Kelly King: I think he's got that "Impressionable rookie against the world" gimmick. Cyrus probably has one of the greatest ring-names of all time. The Dream. It's awesome. However, wrestler of the year and MVP for this promo is certainly the Pizza Guy. I love seeing new stuff like that. [5:58:20 PM] Kelly King: How often do we see people use NPC's in their storylines like this?[6:01:50 PM] The Unlucky One: While you're spot on about part of his gimmick, the main aspect in WWF:G is that he's going to "change" the company; hence his "Got Change?" shirt and the jar he -was- carrying around in his Rumble promo. I loved that aspect of his heel gimmick, but it's completely missing from this promo. There's not even a true mention of it. As for Joe the Pizza Guy, I wasn't a real fan of him. Not because he's an NPC for Cyrus though. I just feel like he doesn't effectively add to the feud right now. He was at The Rumble, and he was attacked by Cyrus' current rival... It feels like cannon fodder for the feud. Now, if they decide to keep incorperating him and use him somewhere along line, then I'd be interestedd. [6:03:45 PM] Kelly King: I liked it! It's just. I don't know, it's seems to work in my opinion. It's a good catalyst for the change in pace. As for Salem's jar that he's lacking here... I don't know. Either he straight forgot it was something he was doing, or maybe he wanted to simply be angry. I mean at a point he describes himself as being ALMOST furious, but with a red face and grit teeth, I think he meant he was EXTREMELY furious. [6:05:55 PM] The Unlucky One: I don't know man, he might've just been a tad angry. I know I grit my teeth when I'm irritable at dying once in Halo. But the jar of change would've been perfect for this! He could've spoke about how he was going to "change" the world's perspective on The Dream. I dunno. There's many routes he could've taken. He gets his point across fine without it, though. [6:06:41 PM] Kelly King: Maybe I'm nitpicking here, but you want to know what my least favorite part of the promo was? [6:07:06 PM] The Unlucky One: The fact that Joe completely oversold? [6:08:03 PM] Kelly King: No, he's a human being, getting taken out by a professional wrestler. Basically he's a leaf in a tornado. No amount of selling is too much in that situation. No, my least favorite part was Cyrus YELLING OUT TO STOP and then his music hits. Like. [6:08:04 PM] Kelly King: What? [6:08:21 PM] Kelly King: What's the point with that? Thats awkward. Either don't use music, or music hits first. [6:09:10 PM] The Unlucky One: Personally, I think just his music hitting would've gotten the point across. Though I could've seen The Dream just running out without it and trying to get to Salem before he could leave the ring. [6:10:24 PM] Kelly King: Yeah. So I'm gonna come clean and say this; I'm not really familiar with Croft's work. I think he rose to power after during my latest hibernation. But from this promo and his grammar and description, I'm a pretty big mark of his already. [6:10:34 PM] Kelly King: And I don't think it's any secret how good I think Cyrus is. [6:12:03 PM] The Unlucky One: He's a new guy, but I've been a fan of his since seeing his work in WWE:E. This guy is a great example of a rookie trying to make himself known. Sure, there are things he needs to work on, but he's always improving. As for Cyrus, every year is The Year of The Dream for me. [6:12:11 PM] The Unlucky One: Except this year. This is mine. [6:12:59 PM] Kelly King: Hahaha, we'll see about that. Overall I hope the promo isn't over, I like it a lot and I'm excited for the feud and thats what promos are supposed to do. [6:14:01 PM] The Unlucky One: I don't think there's a single person that disagrees with you. So, now the big question... How do you rate it? [6:14:49 PM] Kelly King: This is a solid 8.0 for a promo. It has some unique ideas and two really good posters and got me excited to sit in the front row for their matches. Thats what a promo is for and they did it well. [6:16:30 PM] The Unlucky One: I give it a 7.2. Both men deliver it really well, and they do a great job in getting the reader excited for the directions the feud will go. However, I felt like it was rushed and Joe the Pizza Guy isn't a strong enough role for me to enjoy the character. I want to see more of him, though. [6:16:58 PM] Kelly King: Yeah let's hope we haven't seen the last of that human crash test dummy. King's Rating: 8.0Shanahan's Rating: 7.2

[6:17:09 PM] Kelly King: Matt you picked this next match so I'll let you intro it. [6:18:52 PM] The Unlucky One: This match has been one of my favorites to watch recently, and I'm thrilled that we're getting to talk about it. WWE:E is -full- of great content right now, but this is one that I cannot stop raving over. Salem Croft vs The Number Three vs Bison, for the Asylum Championship. [6:20:12 PM] Kelly King: This was the first time I've read the match as I was very busy and only really had time to write my content for WWE:E but I'm glad I got to look at it. I wanna say that it's probably not a coincidence we're already talking about Salem Croft again. That's not to say Bison and Three should be overlooked for their contributions in the match. That being said I have a lot to say good and bad about this triple threat. [6:21:53 PM] The Unlucky One: All three men contribute beautifully to the match as a whole. It's not dominated entirely by one person, and each man gets their shots in from start to finish. It flows well, and how often can you say that about a Triple Threat match? [6:23:07 PM] Kelly King: Well. It's funny that you say that because I actually felt like the match was really set in Salem's favor, at least until the cage came down. I feel like Salem only took one or two hits before the cage came down. Where was his selling? [6:24:57 PM] The Unlucky One: I disagree. Salem came into this match as the ultimate underdog; you have The Alpha Male, Bison, and the former champion, Three. Since he's won the title, he's been discredited. I feel like his character was driven by this and tried to remain strong due to it. Plus, he landed on a bed of nails. He sold that just fine. [6:26:25 PM] Kelly King: Okay, maybe, but I just feel like almost every time an attack came his way, he countered it or led someone else into it. That is, and I stress this, until the cage came down and all hell broke loose. Really quick, I wanna say something about the entrances. [6:27:02 PM] The Unlucky One: Are you going to talk about how Three queued Bison's entrance perfectly? Because I agree. [6:28:15 PM] Kelly King: Yes, that is one thing. I literally lost my s**t lauging when he ignored Bison and asked who he was when the match started. That was funny. Three's entrance and gimmick are so good. But TNT is a bad music for the gimmick, even for one match. As for Bison... I am gonna go on record and say that as good as he is, he's my least favorite of the trio because of his unoriginality. [6:28:28 PM] Kelly King: Calling himself the Alpha Male and using that mash up of two WWE Themes. [6:32:00 PM] The Unlucky One: Anything by AC/DC is an awful music choice, you can quote me on that. Leave AC/DC to Tony Stark. I will agree that it doesn't fit Three at all. If anything, when I think of Three, I think of Black Metal, maybe even Death Metal. I'd love to see a Cradle of Filth or Children of Bodom song open up to his arrival. Just kidding, please don't use Cradle of Filth, anyone. For anything. Ever. Please. Real quick, on the topic of music, Salem's -almost- fit perfectly. I would've been sold if he came out in a duster with it. Just saying. But can I speak about Bison for a moment? [6:33:22 PM] Kelly King: Hahaha I was gonna say something similar. I love effort put into entrances so Salem gets big boner points from me when he posts. Am I the only one that listens to the links posted when entrances are made? [6:36:37 PM] The Unlucky One: I only do it when it's Freakshow ranting about being called gay. Onto Bison, let me start by saying that I love Daemon's work. But this Bison character needs serious work; as you said, he's kind of a rip off gimmick. He's meant to be a foreigner, and I didn't pick that up -at all- until they brought some kind of African club into the mix. While it's hard to relay your character's race or origins, it's possible; perhaps with an accent in the way he speaks or something. My other issue with the character is how he took the beatings he was dished, but is strong enough to lift up a steel cage? Am I the only one who thinks those are just insanely too heavy for one man to lift up? [6:37:04 PM] Kelly King: I think he's the Caribbean Colossus? Right? See [6:37:07 PM] Kelly King: THATS an awesome name. [6:37:11 PM] Kelly King: Alpha Male? Not so much. [6:37:44 PM] Kelly King: I agree with the cage thing though but I was willing to forgive it because he had been beat up so much in the match, it was nice to see him have a "moment."[6:39:59 PM] The Unlucky One: I agree, but lifting up the entire side of the cage and then sliding into the ring seemed like a bit of a stretch to me. I was glad to see him get involved and back into it though. Speaking of the cage, that had to be my favorite part of the match. I've never seen someone incorperate something from -another- match and use it in their own like that! (Note: I'm sure it's happened.) I give huge kudos to Three on that part. But, I did have an issue with something he did. [6:41:08 PM] Kelly King: I hope it wasn't when he was backstage and he got into the closet, disappeared, and reappeared in the stands. Because that s**t was amazing. I loved it. His gimmick just works. It's so nice to see something that I can say is Gaia's Undertaker without it being an obvious ripoff of said Undertaker. [6:42:51 PM] The Unlucky One: It's related to that. His dive off of the balcony onto Salem and Bison; it was a FANTASTIC moment... That was completely undersold. That is a 30 foot, or more, drop onto two men, with nothing but concrete on the other side. Three should've been hurt, at least for another post or two. [6:44:04 PM] Kelly King: I suppose that's true. However this wasn't supposed to be a really epic match. It was a fast paced contest and they wanted to get the action back to the ring for the cage spot, so they cut down on the selling a little bit. Plus, the attacker, in most of those situations, IS usually the first one up. [6:45:30 PM] The Unlucky One: I had no issues with him being the first one up, my issue was how it was sold. But, it didn't disrupt the flow, and that's what's important I suppose. I have to ask, how did you feel about the ending? [6:46:33 PM] Kelly King: Okay. I know you have an issue with the ending. I don't know what it is, but I am going to warrant a guess that it's the same problem I have. So the ending, the leg drop from the top and subsequent stealing of the pin. They... uh... didn't give Bison a chance to respond to the leap from Three. [6:48:09 PM] The Unlucky One: See, that's not my issue, but I'll get to mine. The reason they moved on was because Daemon was not available for the ending due to a real life situation (Best wishes to you, sir). So, while they should've emoted that it hit, it's understandable that it was left out. [6:49:18 PM] Kelly King: I considered that was the possibility. However, what it LOOKED like was they were just moving along to end the match without his permission and sitting in the front row, since they didn't point out why they were doing it, it really jarred me as a reader and I didn't understand what was happening because of it.
[ 6:49:24 PM] Kelly King: But what's your beef?[6:52:12 PM] The Unlucky One: My beef is how Salem was attacked afterwards. He won the match, and yet Three assaulted him and beat him down. I thought this match was going to wrap up their feud, since Three lost his rematch, but they make it seem like it's going to continue on. If it doesn't, this ending just feels like Three wanted to have the upperhand and discredit Salem as a champion. I have issues with that. [6:53:04 PM] Kelly King: Okay but if it DOES continue the feud, then you'll be okay with it? [6:53:19 PM] Kelly King: What if they are leading up to one more blow off match, this time without Bison?[6:53:54 PM] The Unlucky One: If it's elaborated on, I'll love it. I'll eat my words. But until then, I've got issues with it. I don't know what they have planned, but I hope it's something. [6:54:56 PM] Kelly King: Thats fair. So, Salem does a really amazing job late in the match explaining how his character is feeling, and the context of the storyline for people who aren't necessarily paying attention to feuds. If more people had this psychology with their posts, Gaia would be better off, in my opinion. [6:56:11 PM] The Unlucky One: Psychology is a huge thing. I hate reading one line posts that make characters seem like robts. We all do it sometimes, but it shouldn't be a habit. I don't think I've seen Salem do that once. His posts are always effective and drive the match forward in some way or fashion. [6:58:04 PM] Kelly King: You know, multiman matches are so hard to do right. But this one does it right. There was only one part in the match, early on, with a clothesline splash dodging spot where I was confused. How would you rate this match? [7:00:30 PM] The Unlucky One: Considering how the end went, I'm giving it a 7.5. The match was fantastic, but it was left open ended on Three and Salem's part. Bison's character needs some developement as well, and I'm hoping we see that happen in the coming future. I also want to see if Three and Salem have any intentions of following-up on the assault. [7:02:26 PM] Kelly King: Yes, I'm giving it a 7.7 based heavily on Salem and Three's excellent writing, and Bison's spots with the succubi. It was a fun match. I really hope Bison comes into his own as his own GUY and not influenced by outside means. [7:03:34 PM] The Unlucky One: I agree. The next match we got down is... All yours. [7:04:17 PM] Kelly King: Okay, this next one is from CWA and it's a #1 Contenders match for the Olympian Title between Hiro and Harli... and it's... well... it's a thing that happened, that's for sure. [7:05:13 PM] Kelly King: Theres a lot to say here, and yet at the same time so little to say. I am just gonna get into it. Firstly, I like Hiro's entrance music as a personal note. Love Shinedown. THAT BEING SAID. I hate it when people use entrances as an excuse to post every lyric under the sun. When your entrance is 90% lyric and 10% your writing. Come on. Both people are offenders here. [7:08:14 PM] The Unlucky One: Let me elaborate on that. I hated Hiro's entrance. I would've preferred to see (Will post later), and then he never post it. People don't need to be singing their entrance songs on the way down. It doesn't need to happen; your character isn't a world-renown singer. I can understand if you take a line and use it as your catchphrase or something, but even that's borderline for me. Please, no one ever do this again. As for the actual posting style, I don't like how they posted huge chunks, then a small line about their entrance. Or in Harli's case, most of the song and then their entrance. You're coming out to the music, not letting it finish before you appear. [7:10:27 PM] Kelly King: Exactly. How much of my lyrics do post in any of my entrances? The exact same thing every time unless it's a big fight match. As for the match itself, it starts off just fine, honestly. Hiro does a thing where he goes for a move and a follow up in the same post, and that's okay. We've all seen the headlock and jump over drop kick in real life so many times, its okay to move things along in the early posts. [7:12:51 PM] The Unlucky One: Of course, I'm all for going for more than one move in a post. However, from start to finish, strikes dominate the actual action. Whether it's a knee, or a fist, or a kick... That's almost all the two guys know to do in this match. [7:14:07 PM] Kelly King: Yeah. Things escalate really fast too. But they escalate in SPEED as they roll DOWN HILL. There is a post early on where Hiro guides Harli, kinda telling Harli how he should be selling. But that's not Hiro's job. It's Harli's job to sell things he's agreed to take and to decide how hurt he is. Thats part of the RP and part of skill gauging. [7:15:50 PM] The Unlucky One: Exactly. The match felt like Hiro was attempting to teach Harli something, but let's be honest. Harli's been here longer than I have, he knows what he's doing. But that being said, that's why this match is such an upset to me. Harli knows what he's doing, but he's not doing anything that won him a world championship or even drove one of his feuds to being noticable. He kinda sits back and takes what Hiro dishes at him. [7:17:34 PM] Kelly King: Yeah. And then comes that knee strike s**t from "the phone" issue? Like. Hiro has a right to be confused by that one cause I had no idea what was going on there. And for that point, how does one kick the back of a persons knee from a test of strength? Does he mean like... the side of his knee? [7:19:16 PM] The Unlucky One: I'm glad I wasn't the only one that caught that! I thought that Hiro suddenly ducked behind Harli or something. I don't think they fully grasped -what- the Test of Strength is. But fear not, the match does technical... With not one, not two... But THREE ankle locks. [7:20:12 PM] Kelly King: Well. I'm not gonna fault it TOO much for that. That's kind of realistic for Hiro to be picking a spot and trying to run with it because thats what he was picking on all match... but some variety of move, yes, could have been better. [7:22:06 PM] The Unlucky One: My issue is both ways on this one. First, Harli doesn't sell it at all. Second, Hiro had it locked in the second time, he should've fought to keep it on. Third, the third one is like it wasn't even locked in. Harli kicks him off like he's nothing, then manages to slide back into the ring. Some variety on the submission would've been great. Or even if they had been better spaced out. [7:23:03 PM] Kelly King: The match is so ugh and then... it ends. Okay. Theres nothing wrong with a count out. Single, double, whatever. And the way Hiro was trying to do it actually woulda made sense in like an injury angle way. But... that's so obviously not what happened. Something was off, probably frustration, between these two. [7:25:56 PM] The Unlucky One: I have an issue with the countout. While I applaud them remembering that most matches would have a ring out rule like this, 2 seconds per post? Are you kidding me? That's like saying a 5 page match is less than 5 minutes. One second every few posts is acceptable. And, he didn't even give Harli any kind of option on it; if you're going to do a countout, both men should be alright with it to a degree. Regardless, it's clear with the ending that both men weren't happy. Whether it be Hiro's fast-count, or Harli's quick slide into the ring... This match was just an issue over all. [7:26:35 PM] Kelly King: Are you saying a 5 page match ISNT less than five minutes? [7:27:04 PM] The Unlucky One: I'm saying that a 5 page match is over 10 minutes in my book. [7:27:39 PM] The Unlucky One: With that said, there is no real ability to gauge how long a match is.[7:27:48 PM] Kelly King: I don't agree with you there. In comparison, considering the amount of actions that take place in a 10 minute match and how many actions take place in a 5 page match, I'd have to disagree. [7:28:09 PM] Kelly King: However, yes, it was a fast count and it was a bad match. No ifs, ands, or buts. [7:28:12 PM] Kelly King: Bad match.[7:28:44 PM] The Unlucky One: Awful match. Both men could've done better, I've seen both men do better. This is a classic example of just not liking the person you're working with, from what I can tell. [7:29:50 PM] Kelly King: Yeah I don't wanna say thats what it is but. I think that's what it is. Whether it's mutual or not. It just didn't help. I'm giving this a 4.1, just based on the early parts of the match where it at least resembled something that was gonna go either way. Not just down. [7:31:14 PM] The Unlucky One: I'm giving this match a 4.5. The lack of storytelling and decent flow ruined this match, along with how the match went in general. Plus, for me personally, sentence structure and grammar were a major issue. But, I don't want to play the role of grammar nazi. [7:31:34 PM] Kelly King: Yes you do. You totally do. I've seen you do it. [7:31:55 PM] The Unlucky One: Okay, I am a gramamr nazi and I love to be a jerk about it. What's your point? [7:32:44 PM] Kelly King: You love to be a jerk. That was my point.King's Rating: 4.1 Shanahan's Rating: 4.5

[7:34:06 PM] Kelly King: Our next match is probably the biggest event of the week as far as finished matches goes, and I'm sure it's a personal favorite for at least TWO people, but I wanna see if it holds up under criticism. I'm talking of course about the 18 page epic match that was Chrono vs Matt Shanahan, in the Falcon's Nest, for the title, in WWE:E.[7:35:19 PM] The Unlucky One: I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is one of my favorite pieces of work, of all time. Working with Chrono was an extreme honor for me, and I'm glad that I was his last match (thus far). People know what I think though, and I know you're going to challenge this one in every way. Let's see what you got though. [7:36:51 PM] Kelly King: Okay. I want to start of and say there were 18 pages to read and thats a lot for a lot of people. And because of this, there are 18 pages worth of criticsm that I have for it. It will probably seem like I am hating on this match a lot more than I actually am. So, thats my preface before I start my review. Starting right off the bat I wanna say something about the Nest match itself. [7:37:37 PM] Kelly King: The first post doesn't do a very good job explaining what it is. It says that the ICW title is in TWO DIFFERENT PLACES to behin the match, which is obviously not true, and I just don't like the concept. But I won't let this affect my rating of the match too much because I know why it was used as the match type. To serve a purpose. [7:39:33 PM] The Unlucky One: The description of the match was copied and pasted from the very last Falco's Nest match. That was a flaw, and I've been meaning to see about giving the crew a better description to post in it's place. And this match was used for a purpose, for the simple fact that was an ICW Exclusive match when ICW was alive. [7:40:54 PM] Kelly King: Okay. So, I'm approaching this one very chronologically so people can follow along with my notes if they want, and I want to hear from you of course. THe entrances are spot on for the most part. Big fight feel, big fight entrances. I'm not sure Chrono needed a personal entrance announcer but. Hey. Its his retirement match. Whatever, doesn't detract from the match. That's Chrono's schtick. [7:40:57 PM] Kelly King: HOWEVER. [7:41:32 PM] Kelly King: The first problem I had with the match was Major posting. Major shouldn't have touched this match. It detracts from the two guys telling their story and spoils the fact that he's obviously cashing in. Dumb. Dumb dumb dumb.[7:43:45 PM] The Unlucky One: See, I agree with you to a point. I get why Major was there, and it was cleared for him to show up. However, he goes on to commentate... And literally does not post at all to do so. Part of me was expecting some input from him, at least for the huge spots. Part of me is glad that he didn't, because it would've taken away from the story. Regardless, I basically agree. [7:44:36 PM] Kelly King: I wish someone would just take it upon themselves to commentate on matches sometimes. I think people would work harder if they did that. But thats neither here nor there. It would take a really good person to commentate and not take the spotlight from the match itself. [7:45:23 PM] The Unlucky One: I agree, but that's a discussion for another day. Let's move on, eh? [7:46:34 PM] Kelly King: So in the last match, I said things escalated too quickly. But that was a singles match, CWA standard rules. This is a ladderesque match so seeing page two and Shanahan's already leaping out of the ring, that's okay in my book. [7:47:38 PM] The Unlucky One: Leaping is never a good idea. Ever. Just throwing that out there. 9 times out of 10, it will fail. [7:48:05 PM] Kelly King: Yeah, but this is a coreographed car crash so it's okay to do that early. Then we come to the bag of tacks. [7:48:28 PM] The Unlucky One: I saw this coming. Let's hear it. [7:49:30 PM] Kelly King: If you get thumbtacks thrown in your face. You're gonna do more than stand there and close your eyes. It's not a minor inconvinence. That s**t sucks. This is where I have problems when it comes to this match's momentum and selling. [7:50:50 PM] The Unlucky One: While I agree, I can understand feigning the tacks not doing much; they have flat ends, after all. While it halted the pace for a mere second, the clothesline that followed jump-started it right back up. [7:51:52 PM] Kelly King: And that's fair. And I'm also not going to slam the Malice mask for the most part. In fact, as a reader, I want to thank Chrono for explaining the Malice mask to other readers. I was around when Malice was around, but its good for people to get that info. [7:53:00 PM] The Unlucky One: I felt that Chrono adding some story-telling to his posts was a fantastic touch. It inspired me to do the same with some aspects of my character, but I can't say that I had as much to build on as he did. The Malice mask part of the show was a real hit with me. [7:53:14 PM] The Unlucky One: However, I'm going to critique myself for a moment.[7:53:20 PM] Kelly King: Go ahead. [7:53:22 PM] Kelly King: By all means.[7:55:22 PM] The Unlucky One: The Black Star gimmick is not one to be randomly busted out like I did. The Black Star and the God of Punks, while two sides of the same coin, are two -very- different gimmicks. While it served it's purpose and helped push the match forward, I feel like I could've handled my end of the situation better. [7:56:24 PM] Kelly King: Honestly when that happened, I was kinda sad that I wasnt in the match and I didn't bust out Golden King or Shane Tuu and made this freaky four way into a Sinister Six Way [7:57:13 PM] The Unlucky One: You know, I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. [7:57:21 PM] Kelly King: Hahaha, a story for another time. [7:58:17 PM] Kelly King: Malice no sells. Alot. I know I know thats kind of his gimmick, but theres a line. HOWEVER. I loved the LED lights the first time and I loved them again when he busted them out here. I love that there is this mask that supernaturally brings out the demon in Crono, but he resorts to light tricks to do his dirty work. That's ******** brilliant.[8:01:46 PM] The Unlucky One: I love the use of LED lights as well. That being said, I felt like I oversold that part. And I do feel like the baseball bat blow should've done SOMETHING. But, that's about my only issue with this part of the match. [8:03:59 PM] Kelly King: Yeah. It's right around here that Chrono shifts into another persona, and we're gonna come back to that by the end of this review. Another thing we're gonna come back to is the little insertion of Twitter into the match. I get enough of this s**t from RAW, we don't need it in this match and it becomes a fatal flaw later. Before we go on, I wanna say that Shanahans writing is really good, and it plays well to what Chrono is doing, and the story being told is pretty good, even if I have a problem with the themeing. As the match goes on there is a serious pacing issue, and I question Chrono's choice to bring in a THIRD personality, much less a fourth. [8:05:17 PM] The Unlucky One: After the second persona, I felt like it should've strictly been Matt vs Chrono from there. But, the third persona played it's part, and you know why? Christina Parks, that's why. [8:06:01 PM] Kelly King: It's funny you say that because I want to read, line for line, what I wrote as my notes for here; [8:06:20 PM] Kelly King: So chrono brings out the urn and smashes it. I said [8:06:26 PM] Kelly King: I miss Saint Joey. And I miss Christina Parks too. [8:06:38 PM] Kelly King: And then, came the spot where Matt was being revived by the crowd chanting for him. [8:06:42 PM] Kelly King: And I said [8:06:46 PM] Kelly King: IF YOU CLAP YOU CAN BRING THE FAIRY BACK TO LIFE[8:06:54 PM] The Unlucky One: I hate you. [8:06:55 PM] Kelly King: Finally, Paralyzer hits and I ******** LOST MY MIND. [8:06:59 PM] Kelly King: YAAAY CHRISTINA PARKS!!!! [8:07:03 PM] Kelly King: Is literally written in my notes.[8:07:33 PM] The Unlucky One: I don't think you realize how happy I was when I was contacted about Christina making an appearance. [8:07:43 PM] Kelly King: Christina approached YOU? [8:08:03 PM] The Unlucky One: Chrono had so many things up his sleeve in this match, it was nice to know that I could bring something to the table. Yes. Christina's appearance was completley unplanned. [8:08:32 PM] Kelly King: That's so cool that she knew that it was happening and took it upon herself to come in. It made me feel much better about all the shitty things Chrono was saying in his posts. [8:09:43 PM] The Unlucky One: I wanted there to be mention of Matt's not-so-secret crush on her, and then Chrono gave the match to Marxx to look at, who in turn relayed it to Mystique. That's when I was contacted. To have her come out and be part of the match made me one of the happiest guys around. I didn't think we were making as much of an impact as we were, until that happened. [8:10:57 PM] Kelly King: It was absolutely wonderful. Now it's right about here that Chrono is either trying to insuate that he is literally the E-Fed Devil, which makes sense to me, or he'd seen Evil Dead during the course of this match, and thus ends act one of the match as there is a ******** PROMO cut. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MATCH. [8:11:27 PM] The Unlucky One: If you must know, he did go see Evil Dead. [8:11:34 PM] Kelly King: Holy s**t I called it. [8:11:36 PM] Kelly King: I called it.[8:11:40 PM] The Unlucky One: We talked about it. He made me wanna check it out. [8:11:55 PM] Kelly King: Dude, it was the most stressful movie I've ever sat through. Not scary. Just stressful. Fun. [8:12:35 PM] The Unlucky One: Rearing back on course, I take it you had issue with our little 'promo' in the middle of the match to begin Round Two? [8:13:38 PM] Kelly King: Other than the fact that there was a promo in the middle of a match that wasnt being cut by CM Punk himself, no I have no issue with the promo. But now we're halfway through, I want to talk about what seriously bothers me about the match to this point. [8:14:29 PM] The Unlucky One: Is it over there not being enough Christina Parks? [8:14:35 PM] Kelly King: yes but no. [8:14:45 PM] Kelly King: Okay. Here is my problem with this match. [8:15:58 PM] Kelly King: I am utterly fascinated with the idea of Chrono and Matt facing every persona and facet of Chrono's personality for his retirement match. On paper, it sounds like a really cool idea. But in execution, it became clear to me that this kind of thing didn't belong in this match, was overdone by the end of act one, and, quite honestly, was more like a storyline out of a comic book than anything else.[8:16:38 PM] The Unlucky One: It's still unconfirmed if that was EVERY personality, btw. [8:17:25 PM] Kelly King: Thats fine but... I love the story being told, but I just don't think it was good for a wrestling match. And when it got to Mephisto, it was just kinda... Chrono's a good writer. He is. He's not spectacular. He's formatting is weird in my opinion. But he's not always original. [8:17:45 PM] Kelly King: And Matt, you brought up the Black Star part of it. [8:18:47 PM] Kelly King: My issue was that I can see Chrono switching into Malice. It's his last match, a retirement match, everyone knew this was his last hurrah. But you didn't need to take that step too. The novelty of "Oh s**t they both just turned Hulk" passed by for me really quickly. I feel like you're your own guy, you didn't need to follow his gimmick for the match.[8:21:01 PM] The Unlucky One: Let me defend by saying that I only did so becausre Malice asked for The Black Star, and Chrono asked for me to bring it out. That being said, I never intended for it to run on longer than the Malice portion of the match. [8:22:11 PM] Kelly King: So yeah, it just seemed so... off for me. It was a good story and if this wasn't wrestling, if it was a story of two gods literally fighting each other and thats it, it would have worked. But this wasn't like a marvel or DC comic, it wasn't an anime, and it wasn't a video game. It was a wrestling match for a title belt. Chrono got really absorbed into having his story end exactly how he wanted it to, and AGAIN that's his right, but... it's a flaw in my eyes. [8:22:58 PM] The Unlucky One: Can I speak out about a flaw I felt happen? One that I know you're going to agree on? [8:23:12 PM] Kelly King: Of course, I don't want to do all the talking. [8:25:01 PM] The Unlucky One: The Twitter post at the end. While I understand everyone is incorperating Twitter into their guilds, and it's even sparking a few feuds and such... It doesn't belong in a match. It doesn't need to be seen on the titantron. And I'll say this, another company's Twitter feed definitely doesn't belong. The match that Chrono involved was an ongoing one in EWA, involving The Number Three and Phoenixfire. Let's take a step back; who were the people involved in the first match we talked about on the same Pay-Per-View, King? [8:26:35 PM] Kelly King: Okay, I'm not done with Chrono against Shanahan yet, but I'll bite on what you're saying. [8:26:58 PM] Kelly King: Please, enlighten me, good sir.[8:28:23 PM] The Unlucky One: I really wanted to get this out of the way, sorry. The Number Three was facing Salem Croft and Bison on the same Pay-Per-View. Unless we're assuming that both Lineage Sin (A PPV that just started this week) is running the same course as Showdown(A PPV that started a month ago), this Twitter post would not have have made any sense at all. [8:28:30 PM] The Unlucky One: But, back to the actual match.[8:29:05 PM] Kelly King: Okay. Back to the actual match, and I'll get to my end of that god damned twitter post by the end of this. So you guys cut a ******** promo in the middle of the match, and you know what? [8:29:19 PM] The Unlucky One: We did it perfectly? [8:30:18 PM] Kelly King: It was cood. And then you guys had HONEST TO GOD wrestling. Yes, there was the comedy bit there with the band discussion, but that comedy didn't detract from the match NEARLY as much as the comic book story of the first act did. I found the second half of the match SO MUCH MORE enjoyable to read than the first half. [8:30:24 PM] Kelly King: It was good. [8:30:42 PM] Kelly King: Is what I meant to say. Curse live chat typing that I plan on copy and pasting with minor edits, haha.[8:31:02 PM] The Unlucky One: You know you can edit skype posts, right? [8:31:10 PM] Kelly King: SHHHH. THEY DONT NEED TO KNOW THAT. [8:31:12 PM] The Unlucky One: Ahhh, you'll figure it out eventually. [8:31:18 PM] Kelly King: I hate you too buddy. [8:32:42 PM] The Unlucky One: Moving on. Yes, there was actual wrestling from there. And honestly, the band discussion along with Chrono's Slip-n-Slide Adventure were two of my favorite parts, because they lightened up the match from the 'comic book feel'. For me, I just wanted to get away from the negativity of Joey's ashes being used. Man, that hurt my heart. [8:33:58 PM] Kelly King: Yeah, me too. It was hard to read. I miss Joey a lot, I wish he would come back. So the match is going on and on and Chrono slipped something in there about being the only man to hold every major title in every major guild buuuuuuuuut he never held the FFA title so TECHNICALLY that's not true. [8:34:01 PM] Kelly King: biggrin [8:34:50 PM] The Unlucky One: And despite popular belief, FFA did USED TO BE a very main-stream guild. YEARS AGO. IN A LAND FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR AWAY. [8:34:55 PM] Kelly King: Hey. [8:34:59 PM] Kelly King: Words can hurt man.[8:35:00 PM] The Unlucky One: FAR. [8:35:24 PM] The Unlucky One: So far that I only got a title from the SECOND REBOOT. [8:35:29 PM] The Unlucky One: But, moving on.[8:36:49 PM] Kelly King: So we come to the last couple of pages of the match. And I can go on record as saying that most of this ending is very fun. But it does slip back into that comic book edge kinda thing that still leaves a bad taste in my mouth about the match. The ending of the match though, at the crescendo, was the only time I was really enjoying Chrono's retirement posts. You know, the posts where he was listing things he'd done and how he was feeling? It has to be really hard for someone as influential as him to retire and he does DESERVE to be a little high on himself. Sometimes it's too much, but a lot of it is desrved. [8:38:18 PM] The Unlucky One: I was so glad to see him incorperate real emotion into Chrono. I say this because in all the time I've seen the character, he's been arrogant or hateful. It's good to see that even through the God gimmicks, a character can still be human.[8:38:33 PM] Kelly King: Yeah... but... [8:38:40 PM] Kelly King: Him raging at the twitter post was ******** retarded. [8:39:24 PM] Kelly King: I'm sorry, but seriously getting pissed at Phoenixfire's tits being his or whatever was worse than any of the comic book stuff in the match all put together. That was not the way that his "anger" shoulda been triggered.[8:40:41 PM] The Unlucky One: I agree, as you know. I just couldn't wrap my head around the vial he pulled out of his pocket and broke over his head... After all we went through, that vial would've been destroyed. Not to mention... I'm not sure what gimmick that was. [8:41:57 PM] Kelly King: Me either. And I gave the comic book stuff a lot of s**t through this match but I WILL say that I liked that last post by Chrono. It fit. Him falling and smiling and being almost happy it was over. It was a better title change than CM Punk gave the Rock, I will say that happily.[8:43:28 PM] The Unlucky One: Yes, it was a right proper passing of the mantle. Not to mention, I love using the "Bane Throw", as it's become coined. Whether it's throwing you out of a ring and through a table, or throwing Chrono through a steel cage wall. I love it, and everyone should fear me using it against them.[8:43:47 PM] Kelly King: Yeah I saw you mention my name in there, you p***k. [8:44:30 PM] The Unlucky One: I felt like you would've been honored as being known as the first man to be hit with it. [8:44:55 PM] Kelly King: Okay. I want to hear your summary and score first. [8:47:44 PM] The Unlucky One: All in all... The match has to be my best one yet. The raw emotion that both of us brought to the table along with the challenge of Shanahan overcoming such extreme odds was possibly one of the best tales in recent months, maybe even since Chrono vs Landry. We both brought everything we had to the table, mixed it together, and left it for the world to enjoy; whether you loved it or think it was something straight out of Marvel like King seems to. Despite it's flaws, the pros majorly outweigh the cons. I'm giving it a 9.8. If it weren't for the Twitter post, this would be a solid 10 for me. [8:50:46 PM] Kelly King: That is ridiculously high, in my opinion. I honestly feel like Landry vs Chrono was better than this match. I think that I've had better matches than this match in my long history. I think that there is a lot wrong with this match. But what I will say is except for the twitter post, it was the perfect match for Chrono to retire on. It is the only way he could have retired was to have all of these things happen during a match. A simple three count or big bump spot couldn't have done it, there had to be a real emotional story climax, and it was a good one at that. It just doesn't function well as a wrestling match in my opinion. So. No. I don't think this is the best match that has ever been. But it is, at this point, definitely the match to beat this year. I'm giving it a 9.0. [8:51:53 PM] The Unlucky One: I want to point that I didn't say the best match EVER. I said MY best match. But, I digress. [8:52:28 PM] Kelly King: No, I know, and you can think that, and it might be true. But there are people who seem to think that no finer words have ever been put to print in a wrestling match, and I just don't feel that way. That's all. [8:53:15 PM] The Unlucky One: As for a wrestling match, I'll agree with you. But for the story it presented in this G-fed world of ours, none better -yet-. I emphasize yet because I know it can happen, and it will happen. [8:53:26 PM] The Unlucky One: #KingvsChrono2015[8:53:36 PM] Kelly King: Hahaha, oh boy. Rumors abound on that one. King's Rating: 9.0 Shanahan's Rating: 9.8

The Match To Watch
Submission Match for the EWA Nexus Championship - Phoenixfire (c) vs The Number Three [8:53:54 PM] Kelly King: Okay, that was a behemoth of a match to tackle, so lets close on an entirely different note, shall we?[8:54:20 PM] The Unlucky One: Please, let's. I think it's time for the match everyone needs to be watching, right? [8:55:21 PM] Kelly King: Yes. So we're going to try every time we do this to point people's reading in the right direction. So this is the match that we feel everyone should have bookmarked and be reading as it goes along. And damn if Matt didn't pick the perfect one for this week to totally exemplify exactly what we wanna see from matches and the future of RP. [8:56:59 PM] The Unlucky One: Yes! We've already mentioned it, believe it or not. Going on at EWA's Lineage Sin PPV is a match that gets more exciting everytime I look at it. Phoenixfire vs The Number Three! [8:57:45 PM] Kelly King: While, yes, there ARE other matches going on that deserve to be watched and bookmarked, like Hiro's new gimmick of stealing King's Mask over in WWE:E, or Marxx's sudden return and match as a surprise opponent to Rosario in EWA. We had to give this one to Phoenixfire and The Number Three. Matt, I gotta ask you something, cause you're a little more privvy to things going on than I am since I am coming out of my reclusive cave and making a comeback. [8:58:17 PM] The Unlucky One: What's that, brochacho? [8:58:41 PM] Kelly King: Does Phoenixfire know how good she is, or is she like Dallas was, talking about how she's really not great? [9:00:31 PM] The Unlucky One: Man, I wish I knew. But I pray that Phoenix is aware that is one of the greatest around. I don't just mean out of females either, I mean ALL AROUND. She's been delivering amazing matches since the first time I saw her back in... I don't know, that Vulture guy's guild, I think? Regardless, she's fantastic and always reassures me that this community is far from dead when it comes to creativity. [9:01:40 PM] Kelly King: Yes. Absolutely. These two are two writers after my own heart. They do SO MUCH MORE than just post what wrestling move they are doing next to their opponent. They could MAYBE tone down the sexyness a little bit but... I'm kidding. I'm just jealous that Three is getting to make all these sexual innuendo's at Phoenix and I'm not. [9:02:48 PM] The Unlucky One: I agree completely, Three is a lucky man to be able to do such with an amazing opponent like Phoenix. But how about we focus on what really makes this match so interesting: it's a submission match. [9:03:26 PM] Kelly King: Oh, I thought it was the n****e twisting that ended Chrono's career that was the interesting part of the match. [9:04:00 PM] The Unlucky One: ... No. The n****e twisting was hilarious though, especially when Phoenix nailed Three right in his 'little devils'. [9:04:53 PM] Kelly King: Hahahaha. Yeah, the submission part of this match is interesting. Phoenix is no slouch in the submissions department, and The Number Three is... well. His gimmick is that he's something other worldly. Making him tap will be NO easy feat. [9:05:45 PM] Kelly King: These two have achieved a level of descriptiveness in their WRESTLING MATCH POSTS that even I cannot match and I've been roleplaying for a -very- long time and, arguably, am one of the best RPers ever. I, like Chrono, am allowed to toot my own horn. [9:08:51 PM] The Unlucky One: Not only have they incorperated a level of description that even I envy, they know how painful some of these submission holds are and show it with how they plan their characters. Some may thing a single-legged Boston Crab is nothing compared to a move like the Andaconda Vice, but... I promise you, it ******** hurts. A lot. And for Three to hold out against it shows and then sell it even after getting free speaks a lot to me. [9:09:31 PM] Kelly King: Yes, although I maintain that the move that hurts the most in comparison to how much it DOESNT look like it hurts is the Figure Four Leg Lock. [9:09:48 PM] The Unlucky One: Doesn't* [9:09:59 PM] Kelly King: See, I knew you liked being a jerk. [9:10:38 PM] The Unlucky One: Moving on! Yes, these two bring many elements to this match that everyone should strive to incorperate in the future. Allow me to name them off: [9:10:52 PM] Kelly King: Phoenixfire's tits. [9:10:59 PM] Kelly King: ...Was that not on your list?[9:11:43 PM] The Unlucky One: Description. Emotion. Passion. Psychology. How their characters are affected by each move. So on... [9:11:54 PM] The Unlucky One: And yes, Sexyness. When you're facing a female, that is.[9:12:35 PM] Kelly King: Which also isn't often enough. I'm excited to see who wins this match, and I do hope that the reign continues for Phoenixfire, but I don't know how she's gonna put The Number Three away in a submission match if I'm being honest. [9:13:01 PM] The Unlucky One: You already said it, sir. The Figure-Four Leg Lock. [9:13:15 PM] The Unlucky One: I'd put money on it.[9:14:15 PM] Kelly King: Well, heres hoping. If you read through all of this, you were in the Front Row Seats with Matt and I. On a closing note, I wanna ask Matt something on the spot, and he didn't know I was going to ask this so he doesn't have pre-determined responses, but Matt, who do you hope to talk about next time we have Front Row Seats? [9:15:26 PM] The Unlucky One: Who do I hope to talk about? Christina Parks! But realistically?... I wanna talk about Marxx. Or, better yet, I want to be blown away by Dion at Lineage Sin. [9:15:53 PM] Kelly King: On the note of Dion, his cameo in Hiro vs Harli was a 10/10 in my book. [9:16:45 PM] The Unlucky One: I didn't understand why he was there, but it made me laugh. But, let me ask you the same question Kingers. Who do you think we'll be talking about on the next Front Row Seats? [9:18:03 PM] Kelly King: Well I definitely wanna see if Salem, Phoenixfire, and The Number Three continue to impress and make their way back here, but I also hope that Marxx is up to his usual impressive tricks, and I I also wanna see something from Cartwright. [9:18:28 PM] The Unlucky One: From Cartwright? Who's he again?... Didn't he own something a long time ago? [9:18:31 PM] The Unlucky One: ECW?[9:18:41 PM] Kelly King: He's some joker, thinks he's King. [9:18:54 PM] The Unlucky One: King Cartwright?... That has an awful ring to it. [9:19:08 PM] Kelly King: Here we are, two non-hall of famers, slamming him and guess where HE is. [9:19:18 PM] The Unlucky One: In Europe? [9:19:21 PM] Kelly King: In the Hall of Fame. So what have WE done with our lives?[9:19:42 PM] The Unlucky One: Personally? I've clocked over 300 days worth of time on World of Warcraft. [9:19:59 PM] Kelly King: Lastly I wanna see if Nuke's new IWA guild presents anything worth seeing, whether its a review match or a match to watch. [9:20:46 PM] The Unlucky One: I agree wholeheartedly. Nuke made WWE:E one of the biggest federations in our little G-Fed world, and many people didn't think it would happen. Kudos to Major for taking the torch and keeping it going strong as well. [9:21:43 PM] Kelly King: Indeed. Alright guys, thanks for reading and we'll see you all in the crowd, and to everyone who wants to be reviewed next time... we're in the Front Row Seats. Wow us!

This has been quite good. Although I do agree with what you say about that the match between me and Hiro that particular one was not the best and quite frankly I was quite pissed off with the match towards the end.

this is a great idea. I was mostly amused by your commentary. Got a question.
How do you determine where you look for these matches you highlight? Meaning, are you only looking at the "mainstream guilds" or only in guilds you're in? Or are you looking at all the guilds that are active at this time?

And following Jarel's question, your ratings at the end, are they just a gut feeling or have you both written down stuff that you're looking for such as emotion and psychology etc.?! A criteria of sorts? smile

I was the one who gave the idea to Cyrus and Salem for that promo, so yay for Hiro! xd
No, but my match with Harli...It was a little confusing. That's all I will say. We were both a little frustrated, but we totally do not have a problem with one another at all.

We were both a little frustrated, but we totally do not have a problem with one another at all. WWE:E match was far better, just sayin'

Jarel Damone How do you determine where you look for these matches you highlight? Meaning, are you only looking at the "mainstream guilds" or only in guilds you're in? Or are you looking at all the guilds that are active at this time? We look in the active guilds, whether they be mainstream or indie. Whenever more guilds spring up, we'll be in the Front Row to see what's going on. We choose the matches by gathering a handful of completed matches each, then just narrowing it down to what we feel is right. Cartwright And following Jarel's question, your ratings at the end, are they just a gut feeling or have you both written down stuff that you're looking for such as emotion and psychology etc.?! A criteria of sorts? smile King has stated that every rating he gives is a gut feeling. It's the same for me, but I tend to weigh the pros and cons before finalizing my vote. There is no set criteria that we vote with.
