Hunahpu sighed, his ears pinning back as he eyed the flower in front of him. He sniffed at it lightly, before shaking his head and reared back a bit, taking several steps back. That flower smelled horrid! He wrinkled his nose slightly, before sighing and looked up toward a bird that was perched within a tree. Tilting his head, he shook it slowly, causing his long mane to shift along his neck. He murmured something quietly, before looking back at the flower. How could anyone handle being around such a plant? It smelled awful! He snorted some, before turning away from it, his long tail giving a flick as he moved away from the plant. He couldn’t be around it. It was just far too horrid smelling. He made a mental note to inform Xbalanque not to go around plants such as that one; who knew, they could be poisonous!
Making his way back toward the temple, the Hippo’Suticorn sighed. What was with today? The stallion frowned some as he lowered his head to sniff at the blades of grass under his claws. He hadn’t seen any new creatures that he hadn’t seen already, and the plants he approached all seemed dangerous. One even tried to bite him! Hunahpu shook his head slowly as he moved back toward the temples, his claws scraping against the ground as he moved. Today was not a good day. He breathed out a small sigh as he eyed the world around him. His tail gave another half flick, before he stopped, looking around slowly, trying to figure out if he could see anything that was out of the ordinary around him.
He needed something to occupy his mind for the day…

It was quiet next to the water, the sound of lapping of water at the edge of the small brook loud against the stagnant silence. Birds trilled their little melodies in their hideaways in the tree-branches, and Ahni found herself envying their discordant harmony. It brought a wave of nostalgia to the mare, reminding her of faraway days in her homeland. The times when laying in the meadows among flowers and bees and calm companions were commonplace. Long gone, she knew. This new place... it was strangely restricted, everyone having places to be and things to do. They did not stop often to look or speak to the long-tailed and strange mare. Perhaps that was the way Ah'Uaynih liked it.
Snorting, she dug a hoof into the slick mud, and flicked her hoof outward, scattering it into the lapping waves. It turned the water silty and brown, changing it. The color it had turned made it look undrinkable. But she knew better. Appearances weren't everything, no? She knew better for that one as well.
"This place seems like sweet honey hidden away in a beehive... you'll get stung if you go after it..." She muttered, a small smirk pulling at her mouth. It was entertaining while by herself to create idioms of the world around her. Though perhaps that was a reason no one approached her - who would want to talk to a mare who seemed entertained speaking to herself?

A small growl fell from his lips as he dragged blunted claws along the earth. Well. There still wasn't anything, and he'd already walked almost the entire way back toward the temple. But then, something caught his ears. The ears perked up, swiveled, faced toward the direction of the noise. That wasn't something he heard usually. The birds, monkeys, other creatures, yes. But this. This was totally something different. He shook out his mane, feathers on his wings seeming to quiver a bit, before falling flat against his back. He didn't have the four wings as his brother did, so it would be slightly easier for him to take off, having only to control one set, but still. If he wasn't careful, he could seriously end up putting himself at some form of risk.
Hunahpu slowly moved forward, his head lowering slightly as he weaved his way toward the noise. He ducked under some low branches, before pausing when he located the other creature that was making the noise. It was another horse, like himself, but different all in one. Smaller in stature, and the wings were different. But her colorings were similar; greens and greys, with some added white. And her tail was similar as well. The pelt around her neck was intriguing, and honestly, he found it to give her a hunter air. It was interesting... and he found himself almost hypnotized by it. The creature was different than some of the others he had seen. Shaking out his mane once more, his tail gave a slight flick, before he breathed in slowly, taking in the air around him so that he could try and pick up the smells of the creature that was messing in the waters.
The question was, would he approach? Or should he just... wait...

Ahni was lost in her thoughts, her eyes staring down at the water below her. Her reflection seemed like some bitter-looking creature, rippling and writhing like a monster. No, not like a monster, but she certainly could have thought it so. Snorting, the mare turned away from her scrutinizing of the water toward the darkened trees.
That was when she spotted him. The creature.
He was tall, stout and strongly built. His features were mottled shades of green which seemed to break up the light around him. She had only spotted him for the strange bright feathers he bore and the bright eyes that stared at her. At her? What a strange thing.
She snorted once more, her ears flicking to the sides. "Staring is fairly rude without an invitation. Your mother taught you better than that, I hope." She said aloud. It was a strange sound outside of natural noises, but her voice was a pleasant thing - or so she hoped it to be.
She couldn't help admiring the strange male. He was a looker to say the least, and the air he held seemed strangely familiar - like something on the tip of her tongue that she couldn't quite taste. Was it his adornments? They certainly held a strange familiarity, resembling those of her homeland...
Could it be someone from home, lost in a strange land like herself?

Hunahpu blinked, tail giving another slight flick. He stopped short when he noticed the creature turning to face him. So it was sharp... It seemed to notice him rather quickly. The stallion let his nose flare slightly as he watched the creature take in what it could see of her appearance; after all, he was still partially within the forest coverage. He breathed out a small, almost chirping noise that he had learned from some of the other creatures of the jungle, before lifting his head, and going his full height of twenty-two hands. His claws shifted along the ground, before he moved forward slowly, out of the brush and into the open. His tail gave a small flick again, before he cocked his head to the side at the words. What was it speaking? And it's voice was so.. high.
Interesting.
"¿Qué? No entiendo qué es lo que estás diciendo es... ¿Qué es lo que? ¿Quienes son ustedes?*" Hunahpu murmured, his head cocking to the other side. He started to walk a slight circle around here, really only a quarter of a circle, cause he paused, and turned back around to where he was back in front of it, eyes curious and locked on the green and grey creature. What was it doing way out here, within his territory? Did Xbalanque know about this creature? Did he welcome it? That didn't seem likely... Shaking his head some, he focused once more, waiting for the creature to respond to what he had said ( since for some reason he thought everyone understood his tongue ).
----
* What? I do not understand what it is you are saying... What are you? Who are you?

The mare couldn't help but frown. His words were strangely familiar, yet she could not decipher the meaning behind them. She blinked, her head tilting at a quirky angle as she stared at the strange stallion with talons and wings. For a moment, her thoughts trailed to whether he was some strange bird. Yet she had to dismiss it when she noticed his long fluffed tail. What exactly was he? It was just so... curious. Stepping forward, she flared her nostrils taking in the male's scent. Like musk and dirt and cinnamon. Pleasant, but outwardly unfamiliar. A stranger meant they knew naught of her tendencies of trickery.
"Your words are as strange as you are. Do you not speak this land's native lingo?" She said, standing tall and proud. As tall as she could compared to the large creature in front of her.

Hunahpu blinked down at her, eyes flickering along her form. He was rather curious as to why she was here; why his jungle at his area? Shaking out his mane some, the stallion shifted his wings, folding them tight against his back. Well, this was going to be interesting... Pinning his ears back at her words, the stallion frowned. He didn't know what she was saying, and it was confusing him. Hunahpu didn't like not knowing things, and of the differente creatures he had met while traveling his jungle, all of them spoke in some language that he did not comprehend. Shifting his wings, he folded them back a bit tighter to his form, bright eyes flickering down toward the female. She was short, seeming to only reach at the point where his wings touched his shoulders. But most creatures were short compared to him.
Arching his brow, Hunahpu stared at her with an uncertain look. He shifted some to lower his head to her level, allowing his slitted eyes to admire her features a bit closer, before he lifted his head again. Large wings shifted out for a moment, stretching, before folding. He could see the shift of the trees, hear the cry of the birds. They were uncertain of this creature before him. Uncertain of the unfamiliar presence of her. Was she a threat? To Hunahpu, no. But perhaps the birds and the monkeys, and all the other creatures weren't certain. Though, if he could, he would kill anyone to ensure his home remained safe; specifically his brother. Shaking his head to inform her that Hunahpu didn't understand, he watched, her, before murmuring lowly, voice rough.
"Eres una criatura confusa. ¿Qué es esta "lingo" para que usted habla? Debo saber? ¿Debo entender que usted?" He said, staring down at her curiously.

Whoa whoa whoa.
He didn't understand her. This was no trick. Oh, this was entertaining, the mare told herself. A giant stallion who couldn't understand her.The only sour thing was she too could not understand him. That was not so entertaining. He could be cursing her for all she knew. She fluttered her own wings in an almost annoyed way and stared up...and up (god he was tall!) at the stallion. At least he seemed male. He had very masculine features - a strong body with a rather chiseled face and intelligent eyes. And those talons were impressive. It made Ahni rather envious.
She let out a small laugh at her own thoughts. Her! Envious of this creature. No no. That kind of thinking would not do.
Fluttering her wings again, the mare trotted to one side of Hunahpu, careful to show that she meant no harm in this action - the last thing she needed was to be attacked for her curiosity. Such a large creature would do a great deal of damage to her, or even possibly rip her to shreds. That was something she did not want. "Lingo is language." She murmured as she came around to face him again.
He wouldn't understand that, she knew. Sigh. Raising her wings wide, she bent them inward, trying to point to herself in a way that was obvious. "Me. Ah'Uaynih. You? Who?" Simplicity. It wouldn't win her points in storytelling, but.... you had to start somewhere.

Hunahpu blinked down toward the mare with curious features. She seemed so intregued by him, and he was her. She was small, and dainty, and, in a way, bird and cat like. It made him think of a flying ocelot, which brought a smile to his eyes, but not his features. He would appear strong for some time, just in case she was a threat. Though he could almost garentee she wasn't. Shifting slowly, the stallion watched as she glanced up at him, and he had to dip his neck some to stare down at her. Their height difference was amazing, and though it didn't hurt him to look down, he was certain it may hurt her to have to look up. His wings shifted somewhat, one flexing out for a moment, before it rested some.
As she moved around, he let out a low snarl, a growl of warning. Hunahpu's eyes flickered, watching him with a dark look, almost warning her that if she dared try to do anything that would harm him, that it would be the last thing she did. He bared his fangs for just a moment, and when she was back in front of him, he was calm, and his face was stoic. He wasn't going to let anything pass by her to allow her to believe that he was not strong. Not right now, at least. First meets were crucial, right? Flicking a tail, the stallion glanced along her form for a moment, and curiously watched as she seemed to point with her wings. What was this? He listened, replayed the noises in his mind a few times, before he seemed to gather the information slowly, eyes brightening with realization.
"Ah'Uaynih..." He repeated. Hunahpu was shocked how easy it was to say. Honestly, it was a name, and he knew it. And in that, it was a name that was very similar to his language. A name that he could pronounce without difficulty. Flicking his ears, Hunahpu blinked down at her and flicked his tail again. "Mi nombre es Hunahpu.... Uh... M... Meee... Hunahpu." The stallion struggled some with the English, but he thought he was getting the point across.

Did he just growl at her? Oh, perhaps he was just moody. She would be too if she couldn't understand a lick of the common language. There were so many words to it that she was certainly glad that she did. She wondered how strange it must be to hear words, know that they are really words, yet not be able to put any meaning to them. Shaking her head, she concentrated up at the face that stared down at her. His eyes were lovely to look at, shiny and green like an emerald. She liked them - she loved shiny things. Oh goodness... get it together girly! Don't fall over a boy just for those pretty eyes.
She quickly focused on the words that he slowly said. Hunahpu? Hunah...pu... it sounded so familiar. A story her mother told her as a young foal popped into her mind. It was of two stallions, twins. She had adored those stories growing up. Heroes, the both of them, it had filled her with wonder. It had been a long time since she had heard such a name.
"Hunahpu." She said with a smile. She liked the name. "Hunahpu. Xbalanque too?" She said, wondering with a small laugh if there really did happen to be another of him somewhere. Oh the wonders of that predicament.
"Ah'Uaynih.... Ahni call me." She thought of the words he said. Nombre sounded like name. Hmmm. "Nombre? Ahni." She nodded, then looked up at him, hoping it was correct. "Hunahpu is your name. Ahni is mine."

Hunahpu blinked down at her again, and again. Confusion entered his eyes for a moment. When she said his name, his ears flicked in response. But when he said Xbalanque's name... Darkness entered the stallions eyes, and a protective snarl shifted out of his mouth. He bared his teeth, only for a moment, before digging his claws into the earth, so that he didn't lash out at the smaller mare. Xbalanque was his life, his best friend and his only family. If anyone ever threatened him, Hunahpu would rip them to bits and feed them to the alligaters. Snarling softly, he took a step forward, and hissed in a very low, very dark tone toward the mare, his ears pinning, his tail giving a small flick, before he spoke in a low, growling tone toward the mare.
"¿Cómo se puede saber su nombre? ¿Cómo se puede saber quien es? Mi hermano? Mi Xbalanque? Estuvimos juntos durante años, y usted lo conoce? Nunca habló de usted! Nunca dijo su nombre. Cómo-" Hunahpu stopped himself, his ears pinning back for a moment. He stared toward the mare, his claws shifting for a moment, racking at the earth under him. How... how had she known his name. Glancing up, Hunahpu looked toward the south; toward the temples that were just peaking out over the tree tops from here. He narrowed his gaze for a moment, uncertain what he was going to do if Xbalanque ever left him; ever was without him. He grit his jaw for a moment, fangs almost piercing into his gums; or he felt like they would, before, in a blink of the eye, he refocused and was calm again, shaking his head. Perhaps he was jumping to conclusions...
When she spoke his language, Hunahpu blinked at her. "Nombre es Ahni... Si." He said, nodding his head, before he nodded again to confirm that his name was Hunahpu.

Ahni actually felt herself cowering before Hunahpu. A true sense of fear made her scalp tingle, the rage that seemed to enter him made him seem larger, more terrifying and dangerous. She felt herself back away a few steps, her heart giving a few quick heavy beats before she noticed that he wasn't make a move to attack. His words, though she could understand them seemed angry and had an edge of a protective tone. All at the mention of Xbalanque. Did he like the story and the character of Xbalanque. Or perhaps, though a silly thought, there was an Xbalanque who was his brother and twin. Crazy thought, very much so. The mare lowered her head, and tried not to tremble under his gaze. "I'm sorry, I swear I meant no harm. Xbalanque... Hunahpu... They were a favorite story of mine."
She didn't raise her head when the hostility left the air, and Hunahpu finally spoke once more. His voice was softer now. It almost caught her as much off-guard as his sudden anger. When she raised her head, she saw that the hostility had indeed left his face as well. He spoke a short unintelligible phrase and nodded his head, seeming to praise that she had spoken right.
Looking past him toward the strange building that felt vaguely like a temple her herd used to pray to the gods and goddesses in. "Temple?" She said curiosly, then tried to think of a possible word. "Ah!" She said in sudden realization. "Ah'Uaynih? Ah! Goddess of Sleep! Your language! It is like what my father would speak..." The expression on her face turned from happiness to a crestfallen sadness at the mention of her father. So long ago it seemed since the fires had swept across her family's homeland.
