Ginkgo's sides still hurt, but he was antsy and tired of spending his days tucked away in his burrow. There was too much to do and his mind had been whirring since the topside incident the day before. Though he had only been a young thing when the disease ridden hlessi came to the down, he remembered the incident well and the thought of hlessi lurking near the down's borders made him all the more uncomfortable.Bracken-rah had told the lot to leave, but would they? It was the middle of winter and the forest below the down offered the best cover for quite a ways and though the down rabbits had been stripping it of flay, surely there was more there. He couldn't see any reason why the hlessi would up and leave unless they were forced to. The tawny buck mused over this as he traced the down's runs. Though he disliked the snow, he would soon be up and in it. He'd been forced to sit out of his watches until recently and he felt as though he had much to make up for, despite having promised both Dogsbane and Alderberry that he would take it easy until the throbbing in his sides had mostly subsided. He was no use to anyone dead, after all, and the Black Rabbit and Frith had spared him thus far.
Patrol partners were both few and far between at the moment, but he wasn't sure it was best he go out on his own at the moment and that was what had him settling just outside of Pepper's burrow.
He didn't know the new recruit well, but he didn't want to patrol with his sister and the silver buck seemed as good as any. Perhaps they could bond a bit - or at least he could get to know the newest owsla somewhat.
"Pepper, are you in?"
