Calixte stood over the nest as she watched her children settle in for bedtime. It had been a long time since Enaran or Tinuviel had joined the family in their giant sleeping place - the flattened appearance of the grass where they slept every night had become permanent, and seemed to get bigger as the girls grew. It was slowly expanding outward, taking down a a few more of the standing stalks every night when the family went to sleep.
Someone else was on nightwatch tonight - Cali wasn't entirely sure who it was, as that was Kenton's duty, but she was weary enough not to care. She was just glad that Kenton would be with them tonight. It had been a long few days, and she was beyond ready to get a full night's sleep before the next day. The girls even seemed tired, something out of the ordinary, as the little rascals were generally the most upbeat members of the herd. With a sigh, Cali laid down on the skirt of the nest, waiting for Kenton to come back from wrapping up his duties for the night. Beside her lay her little blue babies - Ithillun and Oke. Oke was fast asleep, and she rested her head on the soft fur of his shoulder. He never seemed to grow up, but he was gradually becoming more mature - he took care of the girls when the nannies were busy.
Ithillun, though, was not asleep. She was laying awake, but she was quiet. Cali supposed she was waiting for her father to come back before going to sleep. Deciding to leave the filly alone, Cali looked up at the sky. It was still a plum-purple, stars just beginning to wink to life in the opposite direction of the sunset. It would be dark soon. Cali couldn't wait - as soon as Kenton arrived, they could all go to sleep. Lun'll post after Kenton. :3

The night was fast approaching and there was still much to do, but this time it was someone elses duty to get things done. Kenton went around real quick just to make sure that everything was in order before he turned in for the night. the patrols were getting ready to leave and the sentry was in place. the herd was quieting as each of the members went off to their own little sleeping spots. many slept together but some chose to sleep alone. Tonight Kenton would have the privilege of sleeping with his own family. it was about once or twice a week that he got to sleep with his family, the other nights he was the one running patrols or on sentry duty.
well everything seemed to be in order so Kenton headed over to were he could see his family sleeping, or at least getting ready to sleep. it was always really easy to spot them, between the glowing eyes of Calixte, Faun, and Ithillun their nest was easy to spot. not to mention the little fire above Faun's head was a dead give away. it was odd that little fire, but Kenton did not care. he loved all of his family quirks and all.
He walked up to Cali and gave her a surprise kiss on the cheek from behind. "Hey im done, are they all asleep?"

Ithillun was dozing lightly, trying to stay awake for when Daddy came home. It had been one of those days - play hard, crash hard. She was just on the edge of sleep when she heard a masculine voice that sounded remarkably like her father. Opening her eyes blearily, their light shined out from beneath her eyelids. "I'm not asleep, Daddy," she said, rolling into a position that was more comfortable for talking. As she did so, Lun's eye was caught by an unusual brilliance spilling onto her hair - something above her head was glowing. She thought for a moment that it might have been her mother's eyes, but Mama was standing up. Cali would have had to have been close for her eyes to cast such a glow on Lun's hair.
Getting to her feet, Ithillun threw her head up, trying to see what was on her head. It was difficult, but she thought she'd just caught a glimpse of it when the effulgence disappeared again. Frustrated, she turned around in her portion of the nest, careful not to disturb her sisters or the bear sleeping beside her. "Mama, Daddy! Mom! Dad!" she whispered to them, wondering what was going on. Turning more rapidly, Lun twisted her mouth to the side in concentration as she looked upward. Another lock of hair flipped onto the bridge of her nose, and puffing at it, she saw the glow again. Weird, she thought. What is it?

Jumping slightly as Kenton planted a sweet kiss on her cheek, Cali smiled at him. "All but Lun, I think," she whispered back, hoping not to wake anybody. Getting to her feet, Cali leaned into his shoulder. "Aren't they sweet?" she asked, surveying the three sleeping children below them (including Oke) and eyeing the lolling one. "She must have heard you," Cali said, nodding in the blue filly's direction.
Sure enough, Lun was soon on her feet, doing something akin to chasing her tail and begging for attention. Tilting her head to one side, Cali caught Kenton's eye before addressing her daughter. "What is it, Lun?" she asked a bit warily, for Cali had long since noticed Lun's glowing lilies. They were a gift from the spirits, just like Faun's special flame and Amaltheia's voracious plants. If tonight was to be the night that Lun herself discovered them, so be it, but Cali wasn't about to encourage her. She could already feel her knees longing to fold - to lay down in the soft-beaten grasses of the nest. If Lun had it in her to drag her parents around to every mirror-pool in the herd grounds, Cali knew that this would be one of the longest nights in memory.
"Are you okay, Blue Moon?" Cali asked, stepping forward a bit and using the filly's namesake. It often got her attention when nothing else could. The foal was making her dizzy, and the anxious mother could only imagine the consequences if Lun woke up every child in the nest, who would probably wake up everyone in the vicinity. Lun will definitely try to drag Cali and Kenton around to the stream and stuff. XD Whether she succeeds or not is up for debate. :3

Kenton tried hard to hold in a laugh as he watched little Lun turn this way and that. what she was probably seeing was the flowers that glowed ever so slightly in her hair. it was not an unusual thing. in fact he beleived he was lucky to have such special daughters. each of them had been blessed. Kenton bent over and nudged Lun gently. he jokingly said to her, "oh no, your hair is on fire, were you sleeping too close to faun?" he chuckled at his own joke because Faun's little flame was not something that could catch things on fire, infact it almost felt cool to the touch.
Kenton leaned over to Cali and whispered, "i dont know about you, but i have a feeling this is going to be a long night. maybe we should take her out for a bit, the walk would get the wiggles out and it would save us from everyone else waking up.

Lun almost panicked, suppressing a shriek as her father told her her hair was on fire. It was only another half second before she realized that he was messing with her - Faun's flame had never caught anything on fire before. It had been, Lun remembered, a thing of great concern when her orange and brown sister had first popped out of her basket; her parents had been terrified that the flame might cause another catastrophe like what had happened in the Cerynei Lands. However, upon closer inspection, the family had discovered that it had no potential to harm them: even after wrestling with her sisters, Faun's flame remained cool, despite its orange color.
"Ha, ha, Daddy," she replied, flipping the lock of hair across the bridge of her nose out of the way again. Or at least, attempting to. Flicking her ears toward her mother, Lun groaned. "I'm okay, I'm okay... Just trying to figure out what's on my head. Can you see it, Mommy?" she asked. The curiosity was killing her. She had to find out what it was, and she had to find out now.

Giving Kenton a slightly rueful smile as he joked at Ithillun, Cali agreed with a nod. They definitely needed to get her out of the nest, especially before that hum in Lun's vocal cords became something louder. "Yes, I can see it, darling," she replied. Quickly, so that her little blue daughter wouldn't get too excited, she added, "Why don't we go find somewhere that we can look at it quietly? We don't want to wake up your brother and sisters, now, do we?" Surveying the nest of sleeping children, Cali gestured toward them with a nod of her head. She knew that, excited as Lun was, the little mare had gotten a dose of etiquette from somewhere. Lun would probably do her best not to wake her siblings, if only because of the repercussions their grumpiness might have.
Turning lightly around, Cali stepped deliberately and quietly further out of the nest to make room on the skirt of it for Lun. Looking from Kenton to their daughter, she said to Kenton, "Let's go then, shall we? Lead the way." I don't know if you remember, but we've also got this rp going with Cali and Premaz - [xXx]. <3

sbuggy166 Kenton Stuck his chest out and turned his head off in the direction of the river in a strike a pose sort of manner. "Well then, off we go to discover the great mystery of the little fauns hair!" with that he lead the way to the river. there was a spot along the bank not too far from the clearing that would be calm enough for lun to see herself in. hopefully then they could all get a good nights sleep. not that he was dreading this, after all this was all part of being a parent. late night talkes and silly games and saccrifice, but it would all be worth it.

The filly couldn't help but grin hugely at her father's antics. Stepping lightly out of the nest, Lun trotted after her father. "Yay, let's go!" she exclaimed in a whisper, looking back for her mother. "Come on, Mommy, we gotta go!" Even as she moved, the milky glow maintained its position on the upper edge of her vision. Lun would have stopped to try to get a good look at it again, but she already felt like she was nearly going cross-eyed - what if her eyes got stuck like that? With a gasp, she turned her eyes forward again and was exceedingly happy when they moved.
Looking ahead to the direction in which her father was going, Lun realized that they were heading toward the river. It was a good idea, really - she'd seen a few still pools along the banks, and it was moving fairly slow this time of year. Some of the Vanaras said it was because the rains hadn't come yet, but others said it was because the glaciers in the north had yet to melt for the summer. Whatever the reason, Lun was glad they were heading that way - the stream in the forest would be too dark to see at night, and puddles were few and far between since the rains had yet to come.

Letting out quiet laugh at Kenton's adventurer pose, Cali followed Lun out of the nest, leaving enough space for Lun and Kenton to have a little fun time to themselves. They really were a pair of jokers, especially if one got them going. Odd as she was with her ghost-shaped markings and swirls and nearly skeletal flowers, Lun was her baby, as were her siblings. Cali wasn't sure how she'd ever let them go, even though she knew that, sooner or later, she would have to. Tinuviel was already planning her lifemating ceremony, even though she was still living at home. That, Cali knew, didn't mean she wouldn't have to let her go eventually - Tin was only staying at home until the threat of purewalkers was neutralized, and she had her own nest with Pachelbel. It was only a matter of time, she realized, before she had grandchildren...
Shaking herself of the weird sensation that came with that fact, Cali looked ahead to her much younger daughter. It would certainly be a long time before she would have to give Ithillun away. The little fawn wasn't keen on strangers, anyway - there was no way that a boy from outside the herd would get his paws on her. With a relieved little sigh, Cali trotted to catch up to the pair of them. Her family meant the world to her, and each one of its members was perfect in her eyes.
Looking farther ahead, Cali saw the river sparkling in the distance, little bits of light glancing off it in the dusk. They really had chosen a prime spot for such a large herd: there was plenty of grassland and shelter in the forest, should they ever need it, and freshwater abounding. The herdlands were well protected by the patrols and the guards and Kenton. The foals were especially beautiful, which brought her train of thought right back to where it had started. Wondering how she could have been so blessed, Cali gave Kenton and Ithillun each a little nuzzle as they got closer to the river.

"And here we are! the river!" Kenton could afford to talk normal level now due to the fact that no one really slept by the river. he gave Cali a nuzzle back and then turned his attention to Lun, she was getting a kick out of this so he kept up his antics. "Alrighty little miss, take a good long look into the pool of water over there and tell me what you see." he chuckled as a little plan of tricks began to form in his mind, he would wait for Lun to be just about to the waters edge, then he would jump in it so that the image got disturbed so she would not be able to see her head flowers...but then again he decided not to because first of all he would be wet, and Cali would not let a wet stag back into the nest. second of all it would prolong the night and he was exhausted, but it would have been funny none the less. he would just have to save that idea for later, some other day when he was not so tired and in more of a joking mood. Lun was fun that way, he could do things like that and she would play along, and he liked that about her.

Grinning up at her father, Lun trotted to the river's edge. She was glad that he didn't seem to be tired - she would have hated to keep him up longer than necessary, especially if he was as tired today as he was most days... Looking over the water, Lun had a fleeting thought about what would happen if she fell in - probably not much, but she'd be soaking wet. That would just be icky, since it was still pretty cold out. As such, Lun dug the cloven part of her hooves into the riverbank before leaning down to check her reflection and gasped - there were things on her head! And they were pretty things, glowing white and frilly... Stretching her neck further over the water, Lun held her tail down in concentration. It didn't do much for her balance anyway.
Trying to see past the milky glow of her eyes, Lun squinted at the water. "Are they... flowers?" she asked, not quite sure. They looked like blooms, but they also had strange, thin, bone-like structures peeking out from the petals... Or were they petals, too? Spying something else, Lun giggled softly. "Mommy, I have leaves like you! I thought Ama was the only one," she said, almost reverant. Her older brother had a huge, fluffy mane of paler leaves than their mother, and Ama had a short, bob-looking one, but those were the only ones, up til now, that Lun thought had leaves in their manes. She'd simply thought it was a rare trait; after all, somehow she and Tin had gotten manes made of hair when neither Mommy nor Daddy had them, and Tin even had a tail made of hair! Lun suspected it was probably something they'd gotten from her father's family, way back along the line, since her mother claimed she didn't have parents... Whatever the case, it was awesome! "And I have a nose-spot like you, Daddy!" she exclaimed, hoping to ease any feeling of inattention he might be getting from her. She'd seen it before, when she was trying hard enough to seen the dark thing on the end of her muzzle.

Giving Kenton a slight shoulder-bump, Cali whispered, "Should we push her in?" She knew that Lun had an extremely good sense of hearing, but the little fawn was too absorbed in her reflection to notice anything. It might have been the lack of sleep getting to her, or the giddiness from being around her family, but whatever it was, Cali suddenly felt wide awake. Watching Lun dig her heels into the riverbank, she shook her head - it was too cold out for Lun to effectively dry off without the sun, which had just gone down. And she certainly didn't want to risk the child getting a wet cough, which would probably plague her until summer if water got in her lungs. "Nevermind," she said, walking over to where Lun stood on the edge of the bank.
"Those leaves are going to high maintenence later, Lun," Cali said, nodding in their reflection toward the top of the filly's head. "They dehydrate quickly, so make sure you drink a lot of water, alright?" she asked, not planning on moving or answering any more questions until she got a confirmation. Cali had had severe bouts of dehydration before, only surviving because she found a stream to lie down in or because someone stepped in at the last minute to help her, as Kenton had. Perhaps, since Lun had fewer, they wouldn't have such an effect on her system, but better safe than sorry. For all Cali knew, she might sprout more leave later, like Tinuviel and Enaran had.

Kenton winked at Cali, glad to hear that they were thinking the same thing. "we had better not." when he looked at his fawn in the river, and Cali standing next to her he swelled with pride. He had a great little family going on here and he would not trade it for anything in the world. He walked over to them am gave Lun a little nudge. "Your mother is right, in fact the first time I met your mother she was as dried up and thirsty." He gave Cali a playful smile.
