Premaz walked around the herd lands with searching eyes. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest so hard that he thought for sure it would just jump right out of his throat. he was almost shaking from how nervous he felt. today he had to confront the herd's mistress to break the news. the news that he would be leaving the herd. just hearing it played out in his head sounded bad enough, saying it out loud was going to be a whole different kind of pain. he loved this herd with all his heart. he ad been the nanny to almost every foal that has been born within the herd. he had a hand in raising two sets of the mistress's foals, and now he was just going to leave them all. it felt almost like he was betraying them, mainly due to the fact that he was too much of a whimp to tell everyone himself, so his plan was to ask for Calixte's permission and then disappear into the night.

oh! there she was. he could see her leafy mane and spotted rump not far away. Premaz took several deep breaths, and turned in a few circles to calm his nerves. after all she was a kinda and forgiving mare, its not like she was going to bash his skull in. he took one last deep breath and then called out to her. "Calixte! oh Calixte! please i wish to talk!"

Calixte turned abruptly upon hearing a familiar voice, hurriedly swallowing her mouthful of grass. She'd been in the middle of a quick snack break - after all, even mares with four daughters, a son, and a herd to watch over had to eat (and sleep) sometime. With only Kenton, Faye, and herself leading a herd nearly ten times their number, things got very messy, very fast if someone wasn't paying attention. As such, she relished her alone time, and absolutely adored having time alone with Kenton - time which, thanks to the stallion before her, had become longer and more frequent in intervals.

Greeting Premaz with a warm smile, Cali cleared her throat of a few leftover fibers. "Hello, Premaz," she said. "With what may I be of help?" She strode closer to him, stopping at a comfortable, more familiar distance. Looking him over, she observed his harried air. "Is everything all right?" she asked, an inkling of worry edging into the back of her mind.

Premaz paused for a moment. he was drawing a blank on what he wanted to say. he had played this all out so many times in his head, and now that he was actually looking at her he just lost all train of thought. he took a nervous breath to try and help steady himself. "well, i um, well...everything is fine with me, and there is nothing wrong with anyone here..." he could feel his heart swelling in his chest, almost like it was going to burst, or rather like it was trying to slide out of his throat. But he had to do this, he owed the herd this much at least. he had to tell at least someone why he was leaving. "well, Calixte there is no easy way to be saying this, so i will say it plainly." ok one last deep breath to clam himself one last time..."Calixte, im going to be leaving on a journey. i have strong feelings that my journey will not lead me back here again so i wish to tell you goodbye." there he had said it, it was all out, let the lashing begin.

Cali was waiting with bated breath as Premaz's voice seemed to stall and hesitate. When he told her that nothing was wrong, though, she felt it audibly leave her lungs - everyone was okay. She felt her eyes widen as he told her why he had come, astonished. He was leaving? But what would the herd do without him? He'd help raised all the children, even from the moment they'd stumbled out of their baskets. Cali's thoughts whirred feverishly around her head, and finally a few issued from her mouth. "Why?" she asked, desperately seeking an answer. Though she knew it was selfish, she couldn't let him just... just go, not without questioning him. What if they'd done something wrong? "Where will you go?" It was also selfish, she realized, to think that he would have nowhere to go - that the Vanaras would be his only home. Biting back anything that might be interpreted the wrong way, Cali waited for his answer, hoping only that no one had done anything that would make him feel he had to leave, herself included.

Premaz shook his head vigorously, not wanting to think that Cali or anyone was the cause. "no no please dont miss think things. It has not been anyones doing, but i feel in the heart of my hearts that...well..." he grew still and trailed off for a bit. it was almost embarrassing to say why he had to go. was there a way to say it without sounding like he was leaving for selfish reasons? "well...my life long idea was that i was born to spread beauty through the world through my seed, but in your herd i have seen that there is more to life than that, but i am deeply conflicted...i must see myself if there is an answer to these things that are deep in my heart." he sighed, it was hard to explain how he felt, but it truly would be cowardice if he was to just leave, he had to let someone know.

Cali's thoughts quickly backpedaled from anxiety to a feeling of bewilderment. Spread beauty through the world? By having foals? she thought, wondering who had taught him that. She'd always thought children meant more than that; they were more than pretty things. But maybe that wasn't what he meant. Maybe he meant that foals as a whole were beautiful, not just what they looked like? Whatever Premaz meant, Cali was unsure how to convey her own baffled thoughts. "Well, I am certainly glad that no one has done you a wrong," she said, flusteredly trying to gather her words. "I do not wish to hold you any longer if you wish to go, but may I say - there are beautiful foals here, so why not find a mate here, who will share your ideas? But then again, I suppose that contradicts the "through the world" part..." Trailing off, Cali shifted uncomfortably. Having learned from Kenton and her own children that these angelic creatures called foals had minds of their own and got into more mischief than they themselves could often handle, Cali hoped that Premaz would at least be responsible about who he had foals with. If he was just in it for pretty patterns on their coats, he had another thing coming. Now that I think about it, though, she thought, He wouldn't necessarily have to be around to raise them, would he?

With a sigh, Cali pondered giving him a meaningful look of slight disdain, but he was a stallion - who knew if he would understand? All she could do was hope that somebody out there would take care of whatever foals he created. Besides, it wasn't exactly her place to say what was right and what was wrong when it came to how he raised or did not raise his offspring. "Good luck to you in your journeys, then, Premaz," Cali said, wondering if these would be the last words she spoke to him. "I think I speak for the Vanaras when I say that I hope to see you again someday."

the look on Calixte's face made it clear that she had misunderstood him, but he was past the point of caring. "Thankyou Calixte, i dont know what i will find in the world, but i will look until i find it, and sadly it is not here." with that he bowed deeply to the mare who had played his leader for so long. he had great respect for this mare, as he did with all mares because a stag is nothing without a mare to be with him. Premaz felt little tears wanting to come so he turned away from her and began to walk. this would be the last he would see of the herd and these lands, for now at least. man he was terrible with goodbyes, and that certainly could have gone much better, but oh well, it was done with and he was facing a new life ahead of him. out in the unknown he would find his answer to the true meaning of beauty.
