Hello there! I am Paradigm Shifter, I thought I would make some comments here about me, as well as about Althea. It's all well and good for you to see what kind of Character I am creating, but I think it would also be great for you to get to know the girl behind her as well and what kind of person you will be investing in with your creative talents if you should choose to do my quest!
I am 23 years old, and a few credits away from being a senior in college. Although I will likely be a 5th year senior (although I desperately hope not a 6th year senior). I am majoring in Secondary Education - Social Studies. I want to be a high school history teacher some day. If I had my druthers I would teach 11th grade, but I know it doesn't really work that way. I spend a lot of my time studying and working part time, but when I take a break I'm lost on my computer, playing a game or participating in forums. I love the internet, and I do believe that social interaction isn't limited by a screen. I have made many friends online and I am as close to some of them as my real life friends.
I've been gone from Gaia for awhile, but I am back, and I think getting into a B/C roleplay community would be a fun and exciting way to get back into the swing of Gaia. Also getting a new outfit, sweatdrop If you like the sound of me and my character, I'd love for you to just stop by and say "Hi" if you'd like to get to know me more.

A little bit about how I am approaching Althea, before you get down into the meat and gravy. Althea Fields is a name I've had knocking around in my head for quite some time, though I have never used her. In my head she's been a Hogwarts student, a bad a** vampire slayer, a human freed from the matrix, and much more. There have always been a couple a main characteristics about her, as well as some things that change from time to time. But this will be the first time ever that I have fully fleshed her out.
She's always been of mixed heritage. Whether because she is a half-elf, uncertain or her human or elven parentage, or because her parents are of two different ethnicities. Sometimes she has been very whimsical, others down to earth. Today we'll find out the real Althea, I hope you like her.

Wand: 10 and three-quarter inch, unicorn hair, hornbean, solid.
Wand Hand:Right PERSONALITY General: Althea is a strong person, her mother taught her to be. Not necessarily physically, but she is a cult of personality if she is anything. She is strong of mind, strong of will, and strong of heart. She will stick to her guns about what is important to her and her friends, even when the odds are against her. Even when … maybe … she isn't exactly right. Her certainty is sometimes more important than what is exactly the truth. When she is passionate about something she often scrambles over herself to go after it, not wasting any time wondering or hoping that she has made the right decision. Her family always told her to revel in who you are, and she took that to heart.
She has a take no prisoners attitude about life, and from time to time this can get her into some trouble. People who don't know her very well can sometimes take it the wrong way. She has even been accused of being manipulative. Not in a sly, secretive way, that wouldn't be her style. Still some will say that when she corners you and demands answers you can't help but respond. Some people are put off by this, but others are drawn to it. Not many people have a neutral opinion of Althea, most either really like her, or really dislike her.
She is fiercely loyal, and kind to her friends. She makes fast friends because of her very out going personality, and with very little time at all she made 3 close friends at the muggle school she attended for a brief time. It was with these close – no, best – friends that she learned how important friendship is. One of the most important values she's learned is that friends stick together through thick and through thin. Once you have made a friend in Althea, you've made a friend you can count on to have your back. She has very little time for users, abusers, and those who can't or wont remain loyal to their friends when they are needed.
Although she has a very abrasive personality when first met, she is a very bubbly and fun girl to be around. She enjoys playing games and having fun, and is almost always having a good time. The meaning of life is found in our experiences, she feels, so why bothers with the hate or anger? Life is short so we should do the best we can to have great life experiences. Grow old happily, not bitter and sad. Have an adventure!
Habits: Picking at her lips when she is nervous. It's a nasty habit to develop, and she is constantly trying to break it. Oft times she will put on just a bit too much lip balm to try and hide it. Maybe one day she will actually be able to do something about it.
Hobbies: Althea is an avid reader in her downtime. She's always busy, running around the castle having fun with her friends, but when she has a moment or two she loves nothing better than to curl up beside the common room fire with her cat Buddy in her lap and a book in her hands. She is a social butterfly, spending much of her time with others, but sometimes she craves alone time with a cup of cocoa and a good read.
Likes: She loves reading, cocoa, her cat buddy, spending time with loved ones. She also rather enjoys the color blue, the sense of accomplishment from doing well in coursework, finding simple ways to make others happy, a little too much candy from time to time, and a great nap.
Dislikes: Being too sleepy, jerks, the color orange, lemon flavored desserts, disappointing her family and friends. FAMILY Mother: Andrea Fields, Hufflepuff, also Half-Blood.
Father: Joshua Banton, muggle. She knows her father's name although no name was entered on her birth certificate.
Siblings: Althea is an only child.
Maternal Grandfather: Donald Fields, Gryffindor, Pureblood.
Maternal Grandmother: Anne Fields, Muggle, now deceased.
Maternal Aunt: Shannon Fields, Gryffindor, Half-Blood, no children.
Maternal Aunt: Diane Fields, Slytherin, Half-Blood, no children.
Relationship with Family: Althea is very close with her mother, there is no one in the world more important to her. Her mother raised her by herself in a magical household, with the occasional help of Althea's grandfather, and the frequent help of her aunts.
It was always clear to Althea that her grandfather preferred the company of Shannon, and not Andrea. Shannon joined Don's house, and took a wizard for a husband. Donald had always considered his marriage to a muggle a mistake. While Andrea had Althea out of wedlock, and became a Hufflepuff. Her grandfather's snub treatment and begrudging attitude about Althea always bothered her, upset her. She loved her grandfather, but she can't say as she liked him very much.
Althea was too young to really remember the death of her Grandmother, but she does remember the reaction of her mother. Andrea was devastated, as were her sisters. The three of them had always been very close despite their house differences, but the death of their mother brought them even closer together. As a result, Althea grew up in a tight knit relationship with the three sisters. Each of them spending time with her and sharing some parts of the responsibilities of raising a little girl, with Andrea taking the largest slice of the pie. HISTORY General History: Althea was born to Andrea Fields on February second, in a small, private muggle hospital in Wales. Her father was already gone, and her mother refused to talk too much about him. She grew up knowing just a couple of things. First, that his name was Joshua Banton. Second, that he was not a very nice man. For a long time Althea wondered what he was like, what her life would be like if she knew him. All the things little girls think about when they wish they still had their fathers. Eventually she can to the conclusion that she was better off this way. Anyone who didn't want to be in her life wasn't worth the extra time thinking about.
She was raised by her single mother, with the generous help of her Aunt Shannon and Aunt Diane. The sweetest three ladies you could ever meet. Althea's house was always a bustle of activity, games were being played, cookies were being baked, and there was always something in need of being cleaned or fixed.
When Althea turned five her mother enrolled her in a muggle kindergarden, a highly unusual practice for a Witch. And my did her sisters protest, but Andrea insisted, and Althea went off to muggle school everyday, five days a week. There she met three girls that she would be friends with for the next few years at her muggle school. While most girls that age would change “best” friends nearly everyday based on who had the best crayon set, these three managed to stay glued to each other for four years before Althea was taken out to get her ready for her first year at Hogwarts.
Leaving her friends was a very sad time for Althea, but her mother had well prepared her for it happening. She was excited to learn more about Hogwarts, and ever confident that she would find good friendship there as well. The best of friends can be just one “Hi there” away. MISCELLANEOUS The Sorting: Althea stood at the end of the great hall looking up at a raggedy old wizards hat on a similarly beaten up old stool. The hat had just finished singing a rather enjoyable jaunty tune about the history of Hogwarts and its founders. Of course she already knew all about them, having grown up with three Witches, but she enjoyed hearing what the Sorting hat had to say about them nonetheless.
As a pleasant professor read the names of the first years off in a loud but not unfriendly manner, Althea contemplated which house she would join. Her mother was a Hufflepuff, and although she knew what others said about that house, she couldn't help but be pleased by the idea of becoming a Hufflepuff like her mother. Slytherin was another house with an awful reputation, but she loved her Aunt Diane and knew that all the negativity was unwarranted. The only other house she had any experience with was Gryffindor, and she knew she had no interest in being in that house. Although her Aunt Shannon was a sweetheart, she just couldn't picture being in the same house as her rude and prejudiced grandfather!
As she was contemplating all of this the professor had managed to make it around to the F's. "Fields, Althea," he called out. "Here!" she answered, stupidly. Too used to answering roll in muggle school. She scurried up to the stool, lifted the sorting hat, and placed it gently on her head. The hat took just a minute of contemplation, whispered "I know!" in her head ever so briefly, and then called out for all the hall to hear "Hufflepuff!"
One of the four long tables erupted in cheers, as Althea removed the hat and placed it back on the stool for the next student. Then she joined the rest of the Hufflepuffs, pleased as she could be and certain of a fantastic year to come.
Boggart: As many students find when confronted with their first boggart, Althea discovered that waiting to see it was terrifying all on its own. What would it be? What truly scared her the most? Should she know this already? What kind of person doesn't already know what she is most afraid of? She felt in that moment as though she didn't know herself at all, like she lacked all introspection.
"Ready yourself, Althea." The professor told her. Ready myself, she thought, how does one ready themselves for this? But she had no more time to think on it, the professor was opening the door, any second a boggart would come out and start rampaging around the room hurting her and her classmates.
The door swayed open, creaking just a little as it reached its widest point. Nothing came out. No monstrous beast, no giant scorpion with a thousand legs, no ghosts. After a few seconds one of the students in the back of the class called out "What is it?"
The professor moved to look inside the room where the boggart was supposed to be, he bent down as if to retrieve something from the floor. "Why, it appears to be a letter, addressed to Miss Althea Fields." Althea ran toward the teacher, rudely snatched the letter out of the professors hands, and tore it into tiny pieces, saying "Ridiculous."
It was addressed from Mr. Joshua Banton. She knew what was in the letter without even a second thought, it was a letter from her father demanding to have custody, taking her away from her mother, her aunts, and Hogwarts forever.
Mirror of Erised: Althea stood in front of the grand and marvelous mirror. By now the beauty of the castle and all its secrets should come as no surprise to her, and yet here she stood baffled by the large and magnificent mirror that rested before her. She moved all about the room and it showed her reflection, and yet if she placed herself in just the right spot the mirror would show her something much more amazing. She saw herself old, much much older than the young first year hogwarts student that was normally reflected. Much older even than her own mother. She was ancient. And all about her were men and women, boys and girls, all talking and chatting amongst each other, embracing each other in joy. She was a great matriarch of a family line. All her own.
EXTRA CREDIT Patronus: A Wild Boar. When she rustled up her happiest memory - a night her mother and aunts were all together on a trip to the lake - she didn't expect a large wild boar to erupt from her wand, but erupt it did. The Boar came out a huffing a puffing and ready to knock down any dangers. Although Althea never felt particularly fond of boars or pigs, her patronus made her feel very safe.
Greatest Treasure: Love. She knows it is corny, but its also true. She treasures her mothers love, her aunts' love, and the love of her friends more than anything. All her worldly possessions, everything she is she could give up if she knew she was still loved.
Manner of Dress: She dresses very simply; no jewelry, or overly complicated outfits. Just her slacks and school shirt when she can get away with it. Such a simple style of dress can't really be described as messy as there just isn't enough there to get sloppy. Maybe that's why she does it.
Favorite Class: Herbology has always been her favorite. Aunt Shannon loved to keep a magical garden growing in her home, and every time Althea would visit Aunt Shay would take her into it and show her all the amazing plants growing. Ever since then she has enjoyed getting her hands dirty and figuring out the best ways to care for everything.
Worst Class: Potions for certain. She is much better at intuitive magic like Transfiguration and Charms, where a certain skill is required, but also an innate ability to perform. Potions requires only skill and very precise measures and actions. Such precision often escapes her to the chagrin of those sitting next to her. 《 - - - - - - - - -
