Weary after another return trip from the surface as he entered his study, Dolon sluggishly closed the new descriptive book, moving it from his work desk to the ever-growing stack of failures. After writing an entry in his work-log, he finished his post-test motions and let his head fall onto the assorted papers and journals that littered his desk with a soft thunk. He needed to take a break or he would burn himself out, but at the same time, he needed to keep trying...
Bringing his tail up, he held it against himself for a few moments, the fur giving him a bit of comfort as he stewed in his dilemma. In the long run, spending a few days doing something else wouldn't kill him. As it was, writing each Age averaged out to more than a month of work. But what would he do? It wasn't as if there was anything left unexplored in the caverns, except perhaps more tunnels, but those wouldn't be entirely entertaining. Not when there was already an entire deserted city here, with decades worth of books to read and...
Well, it had been a while since he had visited the main library of the cavern. Perhaps reading of other people's mistakes would distract him from his own.

Hours into sifting through the Ae'gura Library's archives, he came across an interesting entry. As far as he could translate, it centered around the survey of a surface structure by an apprentice. It didn't bode well for the guildsman, and he ended up being stripped of his already low rank and excluded from activities within the Guild of Surveyors for a period of time. Could have been much worse, but his youth probably aided in his defense. Dolon wondered for a moment about tracking down the structure, maybe leaving the caverns would do him good? He could probably use the sun and air. Or just the air.
Dolon searched the archives and gathered up every reference he could find of the case, and the surface structure that had been the original focus. He had to visit a few of the more scattered archives, but soon enough he had a decently sized pile of papers and a book or two on the matter. Adding to that his journal, blank books, various inks and pens, and of course food, he packed everything into a bag and set out for the surface.
