(Directly after High Noon)

The farther he got from Kindra's weyr the better he felt. That had completely blindsided him. Who would have guessed behind those flirtatious and playful looks she threw about with such abandon was a personality more bitter than fellis juice and colder than between. He found himself honestly glad she'd kicked him out of her weyr. When he considered the alternative, her becoming attached to him, it was far scarier.

Hekate he could deal with. Hekate at least had valid reasons behind her anger. He took the long way back to his hut, skirting the weyr proper and searching for Hekate along the way. Not seeing her he sent a mental call to his little black flit. Klah would be happy to be sent to find Hekate. He lifted a hand and caught the flit from the air where he'd appeared and gave him a quick scratch in reward for the fast response. "Look. Here." He pointed at his own eyes, catching Klah's attention. "Find Hekate." An image of the flit's favorite Nice Person. "Tell me where she is." With an excited chirp the flit was gone straight off of Z'fer's hand leaving a frigid puff of air in his wake.

Z'fer continued on his treck, clothes still tucked under his arm. The looks he got from passing weyrfolk stroked his ego and lifted his spirits, even the shocked or angry ones. He smiled to himself. The whole weyr would know of this within minutes. He continued to his weyr to clean himself up and make himself presentable for Hekate. He was pretty sure she wouldn't appreciate another woman's stink on his skin.

Klah exited between a handspan above Hekate's lap, dropping into an unoccupied spot and cuddling in with a trill of success. Instead of wasting time searching for her he'd just asked Baron and Prince where she might be found. He chirped an excited Hello! up at Hekate and sent her an image of Z'fer as he was at the moment Klah had left, searching for Hekate.

Hekate found herself once again sitting on Devith's foreleg on the small grassy little knoll not far from the weyr she shared with her two fellow green weyrlings. While the sky was far calmer now that it was free of it's flying gold and her chasers that didn't stop Hekate from staring off at the horizon contemplatively. She'd been waiting for hours now though most of that time had been spent getting cleaned back up and getting her hands bandaged. Glancing down at the offending extremities she frowned. While the healers might have bought she'd scraped them up doing salvage she doubted Z'fer would buy it. However that didn't mean she wouldn't stick too it.

Suddenly Hekate found her lap full of not just a sleepy Maiden, but also a little black klah as he landed right in her lap. Reaching a hand out she gently rubbed his eyeridges as best she could with her still slightly stiff hands ignoring the stinging it caused. It seemed Z'fer had sent~ a naked Z'fer wandering about the Weyr!?

Where Hekate's thoughts had at once been distant she found herself quickly jerked back into reality. What had happened!? She had to wonder, but at least he was keeping his promise. He was coming to see her. . .and hopefully he was clothed.

It seems Calanoth is not the only one prone to showing. Tell me Mine do you think he will preen for you? Devith asked attempting to cheer his rider up a touch now that the weight of most of her worry had been lifted. That didn't however mean he had fully forgiven Z'fer for causing the worry, but even he could see that Hekate had needed to relieve some tension. Though he certainly wasn't pleased she'd felt the need to let herself get hurt in the process. Perhaps the bronze two-legger would be useful and make her smile and ease her pain somewhat.

Hekate couldn't help, but grin and shake her head waiting for the slight surprised blush that had graced her cheeks to ease. "Why would he do that love when I have a handsome dragon like yourself here to do it for me." She teased gently patting Devith's neck her grin softening into a smile though until she had Malvren's wingleader here with her she would continue to be nervous.

Z'fer finished combing his hair out and was in the middle of braiding it when he began to get worried. Where was Hekate that the flit couldn't find her? Or was she hiding from him deliberately? A flicker of irritation crossed his face as he called out to Klah again.

Klah's lids had begun to droop as he settled in for a nap right there next to Maiden. He suddenly jerked awake with a squawk and blinked between without warning. He creeled anxiously as he reappeared on top of the table in Z'fer's hut. Klah didn't like it when His was mad.

Z'fer sighed and finished tying his braid before walking over to the table and reassuring the flit with a scritching under his chin. He'd taken Hekate's words to heart and was trying to be nicer to his two flits. "Well? Did you find her?" He caught the image and the good feelings of Hekate and Devith near their weyr. He recognized the spot well enough to be able to find it.

"You were supposed to come right back dimglow." Z'fer scooped Klah up and transferred him to his shoulder. It wasn't too far from where he was now, but in the opposite direction of Suunath's weyr. He set a brisk pace, fully clothed and cleaned this time.

... ... ...

Klah rose up and chirped as they passed by the weyrlings weyr. The knoll was in sight as well as it's large silver occupant. The flit was between in an instant, disappearing from Z'fer's shoulder and plopping himself directly onto Devith's head. He chittered happily, rubbing against the silver's headnobs and 'talking' about how he'd got pets and had done a good job and His was here!

So much for making an entrance. Z'fer lifted his hand in a wave as he saw the bright patch of red hair glowing bright against Devith's hide. Any lingering negativity evaporated upon seeing her. Kindra could go suck a tunnelsnakes egg for all he cared.

Mine. There appears to be something on my head~ Devith rumbled out though his tone was more one of amusement then irritation as Hekate looked up spotting the little black for a second time and laughed. "That you do Devith." She replied with a grin turning to catch the waving form of Z'fer approaching them and offered him a tired, but very happy smile having thought better of waving and revealing her hands just this yet.

That and she didn't want him to see the tears of joy that pricked her eyes as she rose from Devith's leg the silver giving his rider a gentle nudge as the flits who had been arranged on her took up their perch on him alongside klah. As Hekate dashed over to see Z'fer not hesitating to throw her arms about him in an instant as she buried her face against his chest. "You came." She murmured low her voice soft and warm with an emotion Z'fer had never heard from her as she tilted her head up beaming at him her bright gold eyes soft and smile welcome.

Yes you did good little one. Devith added eyeing the black that sat so proudly on his brow. . .Well at least Hekate was cheered up. He could put up with any amount of flit antics for her. Though why she didn't just outright adopt the black was beyond him. The little rolly polly flit was practically already a part of the fair as the other flits saw it.

"ooph!" Z'fer caught Hekate as she sprinted towards him and held her to him tightly. Why couldn't he have woken up next to her? Her warm welcome would have been far preferable to Kindra's hysterical accusations. Z'fer stroked her hair back from her face, struck by the depth of emotion in her voice. He could have said something witty or been a smart as but he settled for the simple reassurance of "I came." He touched a kiss to her forehead before bending lower and tenderly catching her lips with his.

Klah trilled and puffed up with pride at Devith's compliment. He slid over to make room for the other flits and curled up with a satisfied cheep. Within moments the pudgy little creature was making breathy little chirps in his sleep.

Z'fer gave Hekate another tight squeeze before lifting her up and spinning around with a deep laugh. She was so much better to return to than an empty weyr or worse a tunnelsnakes bed! "You doubted me~" He teased. The afternoon sun and his exertions brought out all the warm tones in his skin and face, even his eyes didn't appear so dark in the bright light. He practically glowed with good feelings as he looked lovingly down at the woman in his arms.

Hekate relished the kiss leaning into it and parting with a breathy laugh as he lifted and spun her. That however didn't stop her from wrapping her arms back around him when he set her down. "Yes you did." She replied her smile brightening as Z'fer's own rich laugh washed over her his eyes bright and cheerful. However that didn't stop a slightly sly grin from gracing his red haired lady's face.

"Of course I didn't doubt you. I simply was worried that Benden might want to keep you. However a little black flit told me you went strutting about the Weyr in well. . .and Hekate paused tapping her lower lip with one finger coyly. "How might one say. . .less then appropriate attire." Hekate joked giving him a playful poke to the chest. "I'm surprised one of the cooks didn't try to jump you." She added with a grin.

Behind her Devith simply laid his head down his eyelids drooping with sleep as he considered a nice long nap in the afternoon light now that His had calmed down. The flits while they could be a nuisance were warm against his hide and even the silly blacks snoring did nothing to rouse the growing silver dragon.

Z'fer got a sheepish grin. Busted. He'd forgotten that she would also hear about it when he started his trek. "Someone talks too much then!" He shot a look towards the sleeping flit. Better it came from him probably than someone else though. He couldn't really be mad. At least she seemed more amused by the idea of him strutting around in the buff than upset. There was a touch of pride in response. Maybe she'd liked what she saw.

At Hekate's continued teasing he ran a hand over his hair and with as much seriousness as he could muster responded. "Why do you think I avoided the kitchens!" His eyebrows shot up in mock fear. He didn't comment on her worries about Benden just yet. Let them enjoy the moment before he dove into the sticky stuff.

Z'fer's eyes flashed as he let his arms hang lower about her waist. "Are you disappointed? I could always get undressed again."

Chuckling Hekate shook her head turning with Z'fer to eye the sleepy flit atop Devith. "Well he was practically hatched a chatter box. See? He even chirrups in his sleep." She pointed out with a grin and a nudge. Now that her hands weren't completely wrapped around him she hoped he would continue being oblivious to her bandaged hands. It wasn't like she couldn't still work with them anyway. She'd just bruised them up a bit and taken some skin off, but she didn't want him to know she had been so upset over the prospect of potentially losing him.

"Smart man. Those cooks would eat you alive." She added with a grin shaking her head uncaring and perhaps even liking how he loosely let his arms encircle her at the waist keeping them both close. "I certainly wouldn't mind the show, but I think I'd perhaps prefer a more private viewing later on." Hekate teased her teasing turning to laughter as Devith cracked an eye open and spoke.

Mine. Do not let him do that. I only just got my stomach settled from the pictures the little black provided and I do not wish to lose my lunch. The silver complained his tail flicking slightly, but made no effort to move otherwise. He was comfy.

Z'fer nuzzled into her hair chuckling with anticipation. "I think that could be arranged." He suspected there was more behind her laughter than the wonderful thought of his bare form. He could see Deviths tail twitching behind Hekate. He pulled back from her neck and he gave her face a searching hopeful look. His hands moved to stroke her shoulders and upper arms. "So!" He smiled. "Have I redeemed myself?"

Her enthusiastic greeting gave him hope but he had to ask. To know for certain that he was forgiven or at least was on the right track. He slid his hands down her arms to grasp her hands between his. His face fell when he felt the bandages. Glancing between them and her face his eyes filled with another unspoken question. "Hekate?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 12, 2012 6:01 pm

Hekate leaned into his touch lifting her head to press a kiss to his cheek. "Good. I hope it's worth the wait and not a disappointment next to a Queen flight." She joked leaning her head against his shoulder as he finally asked the question that had been on his mind and hers for so long. Pondering it a moment she nodded. "Yes." Hekate answered with a soft smile, but it quickly turned to an embarrassed flushed as she felt his hands grip her own his eyes finally catching sight of the bandages and calling her name in an unspoken question.

"It's nothing." She said quickly, possibly too quickly for which she mentally kicked herself. "I was just doing a bit of salvage work to pass the time and wasn't paying attention and bruised them up a little and skinned them." Hekate explained with a gentle smile giving him the same story she had the healers.

"Nothing to worry about Z'fer." She added glad Devith had deemed to remain napping rather then feel the need to blow her cover though from the distant flickers of yellow and gray it was clear it still worried him.

His normally firm grip was feather light as he caressed her hands. "Compared to a queen's flight you could never be a disappointment." He frowned at her hands flicking his eyes up to meet hers as she stammered through her excuse. He wasn't buying it. She'd been doing salvage work for days without injuring herself. He might understand if she'd been distracted by the Flight as many had been but her quick and too detailed explanation set off alarm bells in his head.

He worried suddenly that she was hiding something from him. Not a relationship with anyone else, he couldn't suspect her of something like that and stay sane right now, but then what? "Those bandages look a little more serious than 'nothing'." He reached forward and tilted her chin up towards him. He struggled with the thought of asking Devith. Maybe it was going behind her back to do so... ~ Calanoth. Ask Devith what happened to Hekate's hands? ~

Calanoth gave a mildly grumpy reply. He was happy enough laying beside Suunath as she and Cepheith conversed, even if it wasn't all that positive about his own rider. It was his and Suunath's day. If their riders wanted to be babies about what had happened then so be it. grumbling an affirmative his mildly displeased voice reached out to Devith. ~ Mine wishes to know what happened to Your rider's hands? ~

Z'fer cupped his palm against Hekate's jaw, over where a red mark hadn't quite faded. "Are you sure that's all that happened?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 12, 2012 10:02 pm

His assurance warmed her heart. While Hekate wasn't exactly niave about what went on in the bedroom and was a well practiced flirt. Beyond flirting and kissing she'd never gone beyond that nor had any plans too. Since after all she could hardly have afforded a baby when she'd been on the move from hold to hold looking for work or back in her life as a holdless. However that hadn't stopped her from worrying that with Z'fer despite her confidence she wouldn't hold up. She hadn't really even realized how worried she'd been until his words seemed to lift the emotional weight that had been on her chest.

However now she had yet another embaressment to deal with as he tilted her chin up staring her in the eyes and inquiring gently about her bandages. While she made no move to turn her head away she knew she had been caught and averted her eyes biting her lip in thought.

Mine Calanoth wishes me to tell him and his what has happened to your hands~ I will not if you ask me not too, but that does not mean I am not concerned. Devith rumbled sleepily in his rider's mind as she considered what to do.

No. It's all right Devith. I'll tell him. Hekate assured her dragon with a sigh as Devith nodded. She will speak with him Calanoth. The silver assured his bronze friend his tone confident.

Glancing back up at Z'fer Hekate frowned and then glanced away again. "I was angry and upset about the flight, Benden. . .everything and I didn't want anyone to see my cry or risk lashing out at people. So I took a walk and fell and just sort of snapped." She answered her tone soft with emotion and shame.

Z'fer waited for her response, growing more concerned as she looked away uncomfortably. So she had been lying... he struggled with his emotions. Here he was being honest, coming to her just like she'd asked even after he'd just slept and made a public scene with a jr weyrwoman from another weyr. With the history between their two weyrs that mornings impulsive actions could have huge political consequences, but she wouldn't tell him how she'd hurt her hands.

Calanoth didn't bother to pass on the message, choosing instead to go back to what little time he had left at Suunath's side. His could just handle his own problems for now. Calanoth was busy.

He was somewhat mollified by her coming out and telling him but now he had a whole new set of worries to address. "Snapped? Did you punch a tree?" While the question was intended to be serious it sounded absurd coming out of his mouth. He pinched his lips shut and closed his eyes before trying again, still holding her hands in his. "You know I couldn't stop Cal from flying... It's the only time where I don't have control..." He took a deep breath. "It's over now. I won't be going back to her anytime soon." Z'fer let go with one hand and wrapped her in another tight embrace against his chest.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 13, 2012 7:21 pm

Hekate winced as he asked if she had punched a tree looking away again in embaressment. "No~" She replied with a small frown as she shook her head. "I fell and skinned my hands and just well stayed there a while" She explained with her voice soft and regretful even as she stared down at the ground refusing to meet his eyes as even as he spoke about Calanoth and goldflights.

The conversation only serving to make her feel worse about the whole situation as she fell unusually still and quiet in his arms. "I know. I couldn't do anything. I was helpless and nothing I did would change the outcome. I hate being helpless." Hekate continued shaking slightly as she fought back the pinprick of tears taking a few deep breaths to try and calm herself.

"And I didn't want anyone to see me upset or crying or worse to have the flight rubbed in my face is all." She explained with a sight leaning into him to rest her head against his chest closing her eyes as she enjoyed the warmth of his embrace.

"That and I think if I saw Benden's Weyrwoman right now I might try and claw her eyes out politics or no." Hekate added with a gentle laugh and a smile to reassure him she was joking though the slight edge to her smile hinted that the possibility of such actions were not too far fetched at the moment.

Z'fer rocked a little as he held her. He could understand the hatred of helplessness. He'd become intimately familiar with the emotion when Malvren fell. "Easy Hekate, It's fine." He spoke quietly, soothingly. Outside of a few heated instances and private moments Hekate was always so collected and confidant. To know that she had been shaken so badly just by Calanoth flying a queen, let alone winning it hinted to him how deeply she actually cared about him despite her reservations.

"No one's going to rub that in your face and if they do I'll give them a bloody nose." He promised vehemently. "If anything she's the one who looks bad right now." Z'fer peered down at her with a hint of mischief while a short bark of laughter shook him. "I welcome you the opportunity! I didn't exactly plan on leaving her weyr naked you know." If just the thought of him sleeping with Kindra was enough to incite that much emotion and rage then he was almost excited to see her reaction to hearing how his exit had gone down. It was an ego boost to know Hekate was jealous over her claim on him.
