The quietness in the open air was a peaceful time but don' be deceive as danger can lurk at every corner in this beautiful place. The time was autumn, as the color of the leaves were orange, red, yellow, and also mixed. As the leaves slowly fell to the ground, you can hear in the distance someone walking on the path as the leaves crunched under their feet. Keira was riding on her white steed that her husband John gave her.

Keira was on a mission to find her beloved husband as the red ruby ring, gleamed in the sun's light that was on her wedding finger. "I suppose it explains why this place can be deceiving, its too beautiful to resist but of course we all know not to fall for it. Might as well tell the sailors to drown themselves before the sirens do." Keira had her sais strap to her sides as she had a hidden blade in her boot.

As her and her partner rode on for a few more hours, Keira stopped by a stream as the horses needed to rest. "So, where do we go from her now? We should rest and let our horses rest before we decide to go anywhere else." Keira's honey brown eyes stared at the scenery as her long black hair swayed in the wind as all she wanted was to get her husband back. She was also worried about her father, Colonel Henry. Keira had to stay strong.

"Come on Orin its not that bad I promise." Keira chuckled as her friend was a few feet away from her. Keira hasn't stop trying to get him to trust humans as she remember when they first met. They both were stubborn as mules that they wanted nothing to do with each other. They only put up with each other because of John and now fate has tossed them together and join forces to go search for him. Keira truly hope that out of this mission, Orin will at least give mankind another try and trust them again.

Orin ignored her and led his black rhinelander horse to the stream and dismounted. He crouched low to the water and rinsed his hands and face to cool off. "We'll break here for an hour or two. There's a small settlement just north. We can make it there before nightfall."

He turned to the handfull of soldiers, "We'll break here for a while. Keep your horses saddled and don't stray far. I want a thick two inches of wood door between us by nightfall." Orin turned and gave a long, hard stare to Keira, before wandering upstream to look for any more signs that someone had been through the woods.

Keira didn't let his sour mood get to her as she dismounted. "He's a poor sport don't you think My Lady?" The young soilder Matthew approached her, "Come now young soilder, he is just worried for my husband that is all. I believe there is hope for him." The young soilder grey eyes stared at her, "Don't get me wrong My Lady, but it is your race he is displeased is it not? And yet he looks at you with animosity in his heart." Keira kept hsr smile on she knew it wasn't her in general he hated but it was like he said her kind. "True, but it is not me personally he dislikes, its the race I come from. I won't hold it against him he has every right. Noe go soilder to your post. Danger lurks within the beauty of the forest." He bowed and walked away as Keira walked opposite of the riverbank to check for any disturbance and any tracks.

Orin bent and scooped water from the stream into a clay bowl. "Pareo," the water rippled to reveal an ancient of the Northern territory leading John to an interrogation tower. The image vanished. "Ubi est porta?" The water became cloudy; he could just barely make out the figure of Keira and his own approaching a tall gate in the midst of a terrible storm.

The surface became still, yet silvery and glittering. He drank the contents and felt the magic tingle throughout his being. "I must inform Keira..."

Keira walked along the edge of the river bank as she looked closely into the gravel. She leaned down as she careful and gently moved some fallen leaves away and noticed a footprint that looked like a male. She tilted her head a couple of times as she looked closely. She than walked a bit farther as she turned onto a path of the forest as she noticed some of the leaves were crushed as if someone was walking. But her problem was, it was only one set of footprints. "Hmm either this is someone else who traveled here or else this can be a lead."

Orin returned to the grouping of soldiers and beckoned Kira. In undertones, he relayed the vision his magic had revealed to him. "When the great storm strikes, we will find the gate to the inner kingdom. From there, I will call up the spirits to reveal the tower where he is being held. For now, what do you think we should do? Should we stay here until the storm, or keep searching?"

Keira turned as she saw Orin beckoning for her. She walked over to him as she heard him out. She was lost in thought and absorbed what he said. "It would be best to wait and let the storm blow us in the direction of this gate you speak of. But my main concern is what or who exactly has him locked up. We need to know our enemies or else we will walk into an unknown enemies territory and most likely lose our lives. We must be careful."

Orin nodded his agreement and felt himself slowly relaxing. She was capable, to be sure, though he could still not fully trust her as the others did. The scars of hatred ran too deep. He shifted uncomfortably under her gaze and turned his attention to their surroundings instead. "I have the magic burning within me right now. If I induce a meditative state, my ancestors' spirits may be able to reveal more. Can I trust you to guard me during this time? I will be unable to defend myself or be made aware of my surroundings. I will be on another plane entirely."

Keira looked away from Orin as she felt that he was uncomfortable every time she kept her gaze upon him for a long periods of time. She smiled as she looked at the forest's trees, watching the leaves turn colors. When she heard his question she nodded. "Of course I will guard you Orin. Whenever you are ready, you may begin." She didn't look at him as she vowed she will protect Orin with her life.

Orin sat upon the soft ground and began to channel his focus inward. A man in dark clothing with a gold circlet began pacing in front of him. He could feel blood trickling down his chin and what he assumed were several wounds opened in his chest. His breathing was uneven and shallow. "I asked you a question. Where is the demigod?" Orin felt extreme confusion at his words; he knew of no demigod. He opened his mouth to speak, but the voice that issued from his lips was not his own; it was John's. "I don't know of a demigod." A blow struck his face as a voice hissed from the shadows, "Lies! Lies, you wretched boy!"

The vision changed. There was a pale spirit beckoning him away from the tower where John was held. Orin flew backward through the air, higher and higher, until at last he saw it: a portal on the Northern shore.

He opened his eyes. "I know where it is. It's hidden until the storm comes, but I can get us there..."

Keira stood before Orin as he was meditating. As a few minute passed the hollow winds started to blow with an eerie feeling that made the hairs on the back pf her neck. She saw the horses become restless as they tugged on their restrains. She saw the men become uncomfortable as Keira drew her weapons. "My Lady." She looked at the Captain. "I know a storm is coming but that's not all that's coming either." She then heatd Orin speak. "Welcome back." She gripped the sais tighter. "You feel that Orin?" Keira's hair started to blow all around her as she felt it getting closer and closer.

Orin was still disoriented, but he could feel something was wrong. He nodded to Keira and climbed unsteadily to his feet. Something was trying to pull him back to the spirit realm. That could only mean one thing... "They know we're coming for John. I'll bet anything that this," he motioned around him, indicating the feeling of dread and the howling wind, "has something to do with that. We'd better find higher ground and get ready for a fight..."

Keira nodded at his word. "Everyone pack up and get to higher ground now!" Everyone scrambled to their feet picking up their things in a haste as one untied the horsed mounting them. "Orin you need help? Stay with me whatever you do resist going back to the spirit real." She waited for him to respond. "Move out now, me and Orin will be alright. We will be behind you." She look back at Orin as she was prepared to defend him as the hair's on the back of her neck stood up. "It's this forest, they must have sensed us from them. They knew we were already here."

"It's more than that," he whispered, staring off into the distance with foggy eyes. "They somehow led us to be here..." As soon as his words sank in, thousands of mighty ravens swooped down upon them and arched upward to land in the high trees, taking the form of men. They began chattering loudly, menacingly, in a frenzy. They were hopelessly outnumbered. Orin gently grabbed Keira's wrist and cautioned her, "Wait for them to make the first move. We don't have time to waste. The sooner we can be on our way, and the least amount of blood we need to shed, the better."

But the ancients had another plan; one by one they swooped upon the two, driving razor sharp beaks and talons into them. Now cries of battle were advancing quickly toward them, frenzied roars mingling with the angry chatter of birds and the screams of warriors. The birds joined their comrades and shifted back into their humanoid form. Two fell upon Kira and Orin; a sharp blow to the head and everything was dark.

* * *

Orin came to in the aftermath of a bloody battle. Kira lay dead next to him, half in and half out of the stream, her hair swirling about her head in the bloodied water. Frantically, he called for help. No one answered. Their soldiers lay slain among werewolves and warriors. The sounds of battle reached his ears once more. It was far off now and there would be no chance of hope from there.

He thought hard. The North soldiers seemed to be retreating, which meant that the werewolves and their camp (if it existed) would be from the direction they had come. If the werewolves were fighting the Ancient Ones, then they were allies. Orin nodded in satisfaction and winced at the pain in his head as he did so. With resolve, he struggled to pull Kira from the stream with the little strength he had left. He would revive her and take her to the werewolf camp. They would help. He was sure of it.

* * *

Orin finished the last of the incantation, his spirit returning to his body after finding Kira in the Realm of the Dead and leading her back. As the light faded from his eyes and everything returned to normal color, he looked down to see her breathing heavily. She was alive. Her eyelids fluttered as she struggled to wake.
