The demon had dismissed him, and Yin was on his own. On his own and wandering through the fog, searching. In some ways, it was nice to be alone. Just himself to worry about, no risk to anyone around him. But at the same time...he was alone. There was nothing to prevent him from making a bad decision, from being lured in by the fog.
There was a light ahead, a cool one, and he did not really trust it. Who knew where it came from after all. So he kept moving. Moving until a second light came into view. This one tempted him, looking warm and inviting, but maybe that just meant it was a trap. After only a momentary pause he pressed on. There was nothing to be seen, just more and more fog. And then, finally, another light. It seemed as though that was all there was and Yin simply headed for it. Good or bad at least it was something, and there was only one way to find out if it was good or bad.
There was nothing for a moment and then...footsteps. Thundering footsteps, moving quickly toward him. Immediately Yin slipped into a defensive position, hands deceptively limp in front of him, ready to strike as it pulled up, just out of reach.
He had not had personal dealings with a boogeyman really, so this was slightly shocking. Especially to be escorted by one. Yin followed along, just trailing after the boogeyman, not sure if he should be trusted and glancing around as they neared the base. Anything could be lurking in the fog after all...
As he left the base, Yin was a confused mass of feels. But he also had a new found purpose to his step. Something that was shaken slightly as he heard sounds. The sound of laughter, music. The fog beginning to swirl. And as it moved it did not disperse, but it did begin to take a very familiar shape.
Or not. This was different than Fright Night had been, and he was alone. Music, laughter, but distant. He reached out, trying to touch a wheel like one he had spun during the festivities and the fog broke apart at his touch.
Then the fog swirled, thick and fast. There was an eerie sensation of falling and then...figures. One on the forefront, giving him bad vibes, causing him to slip into a defensive position, suddenly grateful for the centipede in his scarf. And more behind him. Then it spoke.
What are you fighting for?
The sight of a weapon being raised terrified him. he had dealt with enough hunters, heard too much about weaponization, and he could not move.
Is it power? Is it for them? Would you tear away those who are seeking another path, force them into a life they do not wish to be in? I am not an unreasonable person. All I ask for is an exchange, and return of the things you have taken from me. You make your own choices; the choice is always yours to make.
Its words were confusing, and he found his attention drifting past it to the figures behind it. His heart began to hammer in his chest as the realization hit him. Those were not just figures shaped in the fogs. They were his friends. Miss Danny, eyeing him with fear, an expression he never wanted to see her give him. Alexander, glowering at him with annoyance, disappointment, anger. Nurse Cricket, seemingly so put out with him that she refused to even look at him. Three tails, a small figure turned away from him. Mot, Miss Xiu-Ying, Rikki, Ulmuka...
"Wait, wait," he tried to call but they did not seem at all interested in listening to him. He turned his attention to the figure. "Fine, I will bring you whatever it was I took. I just need to go get it."
As he hoped the figure released him. A quick check that he could move and Yin rushed forward to attack. The figure blurred and there was a feeling of the weapon splitting him and then...nothing. The fog formed nothing, but there was a large wound in his side. Hissing he pressed a hand, trying to apply pressure. He had to find out what had happened to all of them.

There was a figure in front of him, and he rushed toward it, kneeling. It was impossible to tell what or who it was, but the wound in its side needed medical attention desperately. There was no doubt, if he did nothing, it would die. He had to try to heal it.
It was as if the information he should have known was slipping from him. He worked frantically, desperately. He was a healer's son, he should have known how to deal with something like this. Pressure, bandage, try to nudge his Fear at them. A mouth moved. Thank you, and that was it. The fog began to lift. A female. An all too familiar type of coat. A female hunter. And he had known that had he not? Why else would it have felt so weird when he tried to use his Fear to heal them?
Was he really siding with them? To go so far as to try to save the life of one?
He thought he heard faint whispers, but when he began looking around no one was there.
There was a light scent, but nothing he could really distinguish. But an overall feeling of warmth that was confusing. Then the voice. It unsettled him, and he had no idea what to do. Cooking was not something he really knew how to do that well, and certainly not baking. He just wanted this to be over, and quickly he grabbed from the option of ingredients. A fluffy little creature with oddly white eyes. If he was going to cook it would be with nice warm-blooded meat.
It was put in the bowl and then the oven. Smoke begin to emerge, but everything was okay. Then everything went white. As he came to there was a very distinct whisper that would not quite go away.
You ate me. You ate me. You ate me.

In the fog a door loomed, large and gray. It was confusing, but no more so than anything else he had encountered. He reached out, testing it, and unlike the booths it was solid. Yin attempted to walk around it but it simply moved in front of him. Then there was a light tug at the back of his pants and he turned, looking down as a light yip reached his ears.
His Princess.
She seemed to be trying to get his attention, to tell him something, trying to lead him away from the door. He bent down, scooping her up, holding her close to him, his mind almost irrationally possessive. She was his. He had her again and he would stay with her, go somewhere else with her. They were together.
There was a light whine, a yip, and she wiggled out of his arms. Then she was gone. He looked around, desperate, but she was gone and so was the door. Physically he felt better but the whispers churned in his brain, his heightened emotions getting the best of him as he began a desperate and frantic search for the rabo.
Actions Selected: I want to stay with you. Let's... go elsewhere

The fog moved again, this time moving back and clearing an area. A rectangular whole and looking at it...a step down. If he went down...maybe he would never return, but maybe...just maybe...would he find her down there?
( Ramen has given me her permission to post! <333)
Gene rose from the ground, staring blankly at everything around her. All fog - heavy, dense, obscuring, suffocating. Was this what it was to become a part of the Insanity?
No. No, it wasn't. Current events finally caught up with her mind, helping her realize what had happened. She was a few steps away from dissipation, facing three Insanity things, and suddenly the fog had begun to roll away. She couldn't help herself; she had to follow it. Amphi was in there, and she felt that if she followed the fog, she could find the source; maybe figure out how to stop it and heal all the afflicted.
And now she was here, in the fog and looking for something - anything. She searched around the area, finding some things. Two things - a strange bandage and an odd little vial, were deemed useless but shoved into her cardigan pocket anyway, along with the very helpful pumpkin pill. She sat and contemplated where to go. There were lights - should she follow them? They could both just be traps set by the Insanity, ploys to get her infected too.
She ignored them, and began to wander, as Ghosts have a tendency to do.

.As she wandered, the fog made itself into something new, yet familiar. A festival ground of sorts, with laughing, music, booths of food and games. No one manned the booths, and the food ceased to exist when touched, only to reappear when the Doppelganger removed her hand from the place where it was. The whole set up was disconcerting, and Gene made a move to get away.
But just as she was about to leave, the fog shifted again, forming itself into an intimidating figure with a weapon, looming in front of her menacingly. Behind the figure were more figures, all of them people she knew. Danny, Amphi, Yin, Mort, Belladonna, even the Huntress from the mansion. But then, there was Frost, giving her a look of passive aggression. She tried to make eye contact with him, giving him pleading eyes. The Frost figure didn't look back, averting its eyes each time.
"I haven't the slightest clue what you're talking about. I'm not ripping these people from their path - that's you."
No response. Gene gave the figure a frustrated face, before realizing that she should just play into this thing's little game. "Tell you what, I'll get the thing I took from you. Just let me go."
The figure complied. Gene lunged at it, mid shift. Before she even went full attack mode, the figure cut her in two.
She woke up, surrounded by fog, with a giant gash on her side. Where had that come from?

Somehow, without even knowing why or who or what, Gene was kneeling, hands pressed against a living body, hot blood gushing from a grievous injury to the side. She didn't know how to FEAR heal; all she ever did was deceive and attack. She fumbled around, calling for help and wondering what to do. She couldn't remove her hands - that would let the blood flow more freely.
How had this even happened? She tried to rack her brain, but nothing came up. This body - she couldn't tell what it was (though she was certain it wasn't a ghost; they don't bleed), but it was in need of help. She was panicking, and all her calls for help fell flat in the fog.
In her panic, the odd bandage fell out of her pocket. Of course! She removed her hands, and tried to apply the medical cloth.
It only got worse. The figure's breathing became shallower, more labored. It sputtered out a thanks, in a voice that sounded all too familiar to the Doppelganger, before it disappeared, leaving the weird bandage behind.
She picked the bandage up with an empty look, biting her lower lip. She'd failed.

Suddenly, there was the smell of spookies permeating the air. A strange little figure, a human girl by the looks of her, was jabbering on about something related to food and ingredients. Gene, for once, didn't outright attack the Hunter. She had an air of...niceness? As though she wasn't here to harm, and only meant good.
She'd asked Gene to select an ingredient. The Doppelganger complied, looking to the counter for what was available. Something that looked like a foxfire...nope. Tentacled mass? No thanks. Weird liquid that just did not seem okay? Pass.
That left the Floresce looking thing. Gene loved sushi, and all seafood really. Besides, this wasn't even one of the rare Floresce, just another common dopey one. No harm done.
She handed the fish to the girl, which she put in the bowl, and the bowl into the oven. A pleasant aroma began to fill the space not too long after the mixture began cooking, and Gene was reminded of something intangible, a concept she couldn't grasp. Nostalgic, but not enough to the point where she knew what she was remembering. Everything blurred, slowed down, a hum went throughout the space. Gene was fine with it all

The Doppelganger finally came to her senses, slowly becoming aware of the fact that she was lying on the floor, and that a large door loomed above her. Surprised that it had just appeared from absolutely nowhere, Gene made a point to make sure it was real. She knocked on it, finding it to be pretty solid.
Danny probably would have used her head. Literally.
She looked toward the door knob, giving it a quirked eyebrow. Was this real? Or just another illusion caused by the Insanity? Either way, she probably had to open it...
Just as her finger touched the knob, the all too familiar voice of a childish Flame Demon screeching for her to stop, to wait. She didn't want Gene to go, she was even dry sobbing. She was saying there was another way - a different method to doing this. Gene gave the ghoul a sad smile, petting her hair slowly, rhythmically.
"Sorry hon, but this is the only way. I have to believe Amphi and Yin are through that door, and make sure the Insanity goes away from them." She stopped stroking her hair, and sighed. "Please let go of me."
Danny let go, but Danny was never really there. Nor was the door, apparently. All just tricks of the Insanity.

And then the fog rolled away - shifting, retreating, crawling. Gene gave it a sharp questioning look, wondering just why it did what it did. That question was outweighed soon enough by a new one; why was that stairwell there, and would she go down it.
She had to. Even if staring at it made her feel like she would never return, she had to go down the stairwell. And she did, giving the area a last look, hoping it wouldn't be the last thing she saw before her core terminated.
