All characters regardless of faction will be sharing these prompts. Most likely there will be a new prompt every day.

You slowly come to your senses.

It is neither cold nor warm as you stir from unconsciousness. You slowly raise a hand to rub at your eyes, stopping the action short as your vision focuses on the appendage in front of you: it's in full color, and it's undoubtedly your own. You then realize that you do not hear any voices. Those that were not inflicted with Insanity will note no major change, whereas those who were inflicted with Insanity will realize that they no longer bear the taint. They no longer hear voices, no longer have any lasting patches of grey. There is a dull, aching throb within them that feels as if someone had ripped a bandage off and scooped out whatever was underneath before slapping it back on. They may find themselves afflicted with a sort of lonliness and loss. What will they do now? What are they supposed to find? These thoughts are quickly replaced by something more pressing: guilt. You find yourself fully aware of what you did, and why.

But now... Now you realize you can't stay here. The presence of fog is more than enough to confirm the fact that you are within the heart of the Insanity. You figure you must be inside the Haunted House. It is common knowledge that the Haunted House changes with every visit. It's not unusual to enter a different room every time, nor is it out of the ordinary to encounter the same one. Some rooms were like "normal" everyday living rooms, whereas others had more in common with a far off exotic location than someone's dining room. You get the feeling that you are in a wide, open room. There's something about the fog that swirls gently around you that leads you to believe you're not in a confined space. And yet... You take a step and feel something crunch under your feet.

EXAMINE:
Look down.
Whatever it was previously is now nothing more than a pile of shattered glass. You can see that it is glimmering softly; the glass must have been thin. On closer inspection you realize that there must have been a liquid of some kind inside it, however there is no chance of scavaging any of it now even if you wanted to. Whatever it was.

Are you a Horseman or Initiate? If yes, reveal:
You recognize the vial. It was one of the previous few bottles that Medea had with her and gave out. Using one could return someone who was Insane back to their former self, but now... Now you broke it. Even if you were to put a piece of cloth down to try and absorb it, it was all too likely that you'd end up with shards of glass instead. That vial is now wasted.


Was your character a former initiate of the Horseman clan? If yes, reveal:
You think it might have something to do with the horsemen, but... Were they here first? What is it doing here? You leave it alone.

Look around.
You look around. You can only see roughly four feet or one meter in front of you in any direction. It's really foggy. But, wait -- don't you see something...?

Call out.
Your voice feels flat. There is no echo, the vibrations of you call are swallowed quickly by the fog.

Search the area.
If you decide to search, roll 3d20. Or make three posts, rolling 1d20 in each.

After searching for awhile (or roughly fifteen minutes for those who compulsively check their watches or cellphones. It's nice to know that these devices function, however you do not have reception or signal to call for help unfortunately), you realize that you can kind of see a light in the distance... And after walking around some more (for about twelve minutes for the compulsive time-checkers), you realize that there's another. You suspect that further walking will reveal more.

ACTION:
Head towards the cold light.
Head towards the warm light.
Keep walking and search for a different light.
Ignore the lights and walk in a random direction.

Head towards the cold light.
As you walk towards the cold light, a shape begins to take form. The light reveals itself to be several lights, specifically a barrier... One that is ran and maintained by hunters.

If you're a student:
A shout goes up as the hunters on guard take notice! They begin to open fire and shoot! You are hit for 20 damage. Add 15% to your Insanity levels.

Head towards the warm light.
As you walk towards the warm light, you realize you're walking towards a fire. A moment later a shape thrusts itself between you and the fire with a weapon pointed directly at you!

If you're a hunter:
The figure attacks quickly, fiercely, and efficiently. You manage to get out of there before they do too much damage. You are wounded for 15 damage. Take 10 Insanity as well.

If you're a horseman:
The figure lowers their weapon and reaches out, clapping you on the shoulder. You've encountered a fellow horseman! They lead you back to the base camp. As you know of its location, you can now access it at any time by going here. Remember to [EXIT] your current thread when you go to check in!


If you're a student:
The figure grudgingly lowers their weapon. It's a horseman! It's impossible to read their expression, but with a curt gesture they beckon you to follow them.

Keep walking and search for a different light.
It takes you awhile before you see it. It's not exactly a light, but there's something about the patch of Insanity ahead and to your left that sticks out. Upon close inspection you realize that there's a barrier of some sorts, one that seems to be absorbing the light.

If you're a hunter:
Your weapon notes a strong presence of Fear before something hits you! You are assaulted by something far larger and stronger than you that you can't make out. You manage to get out of there, but not before taking 15 damage. Add 10% to your Insanity meter as well.

If you're a horseman:
A monstrous form rushes out of the Insanity! It pulls itself short, lurching to its feet to sniff you. A shudder runs through it and in a moment a cloaked figure stands before you. They identify themselves as a boogeyman and escort you to their base here.

If you're a student:
You hear the thunder of footsteps approaching before a large shape rushes out of the fog. The thing pulls itself short, and in a moment a cloaked figure stands before you. They identify themselves as a boogeyman and escort you to their base here.

You hear something, almost... jubilant...

You begin to hear the sounds of laughter and music. After a time, you notice the fog beginning to move. It twists, writhes and forms into shapes around you. It looms, but not to engulf you. Before your eyes you discover that you are no longer in a sea of endless fog. Instead you're in a sea of endless fog that has managed to shape itself into a place that is familiar to some, and yet...

The fog has formed into various tents and booths. Immediately you think that it has reformed Fright Night, yet you do not recognize this place. The world is still in black and white, empty save for yourself. You can still hear music and laughter, and yet it is still distant and muffled. You take your time and walk amongst the booths. There are many and they are widely varied: food stall here, a game there. Any attempts to pick one up makes it dissolve into a puff of fog before you pull your hand back, whereupon it reclaims its former shape.

At an unspecified time later the fog suddenly rushes up. You feel as if you are falling. Quickly the fog takes on new shapes, one that is darker and more sinister. You see a figure standing before you with various shapes behind it. It is addressing you. "What are you fighting for?" The being raises a shadowy appendage. You realize that it is holding a weapon. A strange, odd lullaby-like sound seems to creep across your skin, paralyzing you in place. "Is it power? Is it for them?" They sweep their weapon aside, revealing more shadowy shapes behind them. "Would you tear away those who are seeking another path, force them into a life they do not wish to be in? I am not an unreasonable person. All I ask for is an exchange, and return of the things you have taken from me. You make your own choices; the choice is always yours to make."

EXAMINE:
Study the shadowy figure with the weapon.
The figure is imposing. There is a certain air to them that makes you respect them.

Try to move.
You cannot. You can, however, move your mouth and speak.

Spit at the figure.
You manage to drool a bit on yourself.

Look at the shapes behind the figure with the weapon.
With a jolt, you realize that the figures are your friends. There is a mixture in their expressions: some are watching you with fear, others are looking at you in annoyance. You even see your best friend.

Look at your best friend.
They will not meet your eyes.

Ask, "What did I take from you?"
The figure shakes its head slowly. "You know very well what was taken. I would like it back."

Ask, "What do you mean?"
"You have taken something from me. I would like it returned."

Point out that you don't know what they're talking about.
The figure seems to smile in a way that means they don't believe you.

Attempt to address the figures behind the figure with a weapon.
They do not respond.


ACTION:
Agree to return whatever you stole.
Insist that you never stole anything.
Offer yourself in exchange for one of the figures behind them.
Agree to return what was stolen but explain that you need to go get it. When freed, you intend to run.

PROMPT 2 CONSEQUENCES:

Agree to return whatever you stole.
As soon as you make the promise, the world around you fades to white. You wander around in some confusion for awhile until you see a light ahead. Eventually, you happen upon your faction's base!

Insist that you never stole anything.
The shadowy figure shakes its head. "Stubborn, aren't we? No matter." The figure raises its weapon --

-- You find yourself surrounded by white fog, free from the gloom. You look yourself over. No visible wounds, but something feels... different.

-10% Fear, +5% Insanity.

Offer yourself in exchange for one of the figures behind them.
The shadowy figure nods to you, accepting the offer. One of the shadows behind them rises and begins to move towards you. You pass each other, and your world fades into white...

You blink. You realize that you're no longer surrounded by shadows. After a quick look over, you don't see anything different about you... but you feel different.

Lose 5% Fear, gain 15% Insanity.

Agree to return what was stolen but explain that you need to go get it. When freed, you intend to run.
You find yourself able to move. You turn and walk, the walk becoming a run becoming an all-out dash. Behind you can hear the screams, the cries of those you left behind --

Or do you? You don't stop until the fog around you turns white and loses its shape.

No change in HP, Fear, or Insanity.

Agree to return what was stolen but explain that you need to go get it. When freed, you intend to attack the figure.
You flex your hands and feet, making sure feeling has returned to them. Once you're sure of the fact, you lunge forward to attack!

Unfortunately for you, the shady figure is much too fast for you. You feel their weapon cleave you in half --

-- You are now surrounded by white, shapeless fog. After looking yourself over, you discover a large and painful wound that wasn't there before. Ow!

Lose 20 HP. Gain 10 Insanity.

Close your eyes and wait for the shapes to go away. (Do nothing)
Time passes. By the time you open your eyes again, the fog is once again white and shapeless. And silent.

No change in HP, Fear, or Insanity.

You find yourself kneeling...

Your hands are covered in something dark, warm, and sticky as they press themselves tightly against the prone form in front of you. It's difficult to discern any features in the fog -- is it male? Female? Neither? Both? Halloween? Horseman? Hunter? The only thing you are aware of is the serious wound your hands are currently applying pressure to. Every laborious breath, every beat of its heart sends another miniature wave of fluid up and around your fingers. You can feel the dampness beginning to seep into your knees.

EXAMINE:
Study the figure.
You can't discern anything aside from the fact that they have a serious injury. If the lighting was better, you wonder if they would be too mangled to tell what they were... but if that were the case, they wouldn't be holding on as they were right now.

Assess the injury.
It's a grievous wound on their side. If left unattended, you suspect they would perish.

Search for identification.
You would need to remove your hands to do that!

Remove your hands.
You get the feeling that if you removed them, there wouldn't be anything putting pressure on the wound to slow the bleeding...

Call for help.
You don't think that's a good idea.

Look around the vicinity for help.
You are alone.


ACTION:
Attempt to heal whoever (and whatever) it is.
Use a pumpkin pill or runic bandage on the figure (requires one or the other, will use the item up).
Finish the job. Somebody was sloppy...

PROMPT 3 CONSEQUENCES:

Attempt to heal whoever (and whatever) it is.
You work frantically, your mind scrambling for the information you learned so long ago. You never expected you needed it to save a life -- or maybe you did, and the situation is making it too difficult to think straight. The figure's life slips slowly between your hands. You can see their mouth move: "Thank you." They lie still, and are no more.

The fog lifts a bit. With a jolt, you realize taht it was an enemy. Or perhaps you already knew, and made the choice to try and save them anyway. Regardless of your moral compass, you realize that you feel a bit... burdened. Guilt for helping an enemy? Guilt for being unable to save them?

Or perhaps it is the Insanity getting to you.

Gain 25% Insanity.

Use a pumpkin pill or runic bandage on the figure (requires one or the other, will use the item up).
As you use the item on them, you wait for the effects to kick in. You notice that they seem to have a harder time breathing. It rises agonizingly slow, only to shudder and collapse in and on itself.

Something grabs you hand, weakly. "Th... th... thank... you..." They then breathe no more.

There is nothing left for you to do. As you stand the fog clears, and you see the item you used to heal them on the floor. You recollect it and carry on, knowing that illusion or not: you failed.

Regain your spent item.

Finish the job. Somebody was sloppy...
You reach out and put them out of their misery.

Gain 10% Fear, 10% Insanity.

Finish the job. You were the one who put them in that condition, after all.
You reach out and draw out their last moments. It is empowering, invigorating. You do not feel guilty; every wince and flinch from them makes it more and more apparent: the figure is your enemy.

When they finally pass on, you realize that you feel better. A lot better.

Gain 40% Fear.

Get up and walk away. It is not your concern. (Do nothing)
You hear the rattle of their breath for a time, then it stops and ends with a sigh.

No changes.

You smell something cooking.... a strange scent.... almost warm.

"Oh, here again? Oh, well, I would love the help!" The figure swoops in, there is a light, muffled clatter as she places a rectangular inky-black form onto the pitch-black counter. It smiles. "I prepared some fresh ingredients already, so feel free to pick out a few. I'm not picky, really! I'll take anything you want to use."

Pause. Silence.

It laughs. From the ebony mass of the counter space it merges one gloved hand into it and pulls out a writhing mass. It stares at you with white eyes. "Well if you insist. Leftovers work as well, let's make something that will surprise everyone!"


EXAMINE:

You look at the counters.

A few things seem seperate from the black mass, squirming with life of their own. You can barely make out the shapes, but you do see the eyes. They seem to follow you. As you get closer to the counters, you also notice a slight change in shade, a depth to certain items. You make out a longer shape, a spatula perhaps, and then a few spoons.

The eyes staring at you unnerve you a bit.

"Don't be shy!" It calls out, in the distance, kneeling over to check on a black, smoking mass from the side of a counter. "Or else how will you ever discover your talent?"



Are you a Hunter?

"That's very nice, Mary." The figure absentminded dismisses, pulling a clawed-black mass from another counter and then several fluffier ones from another. She tosses them into a large inky bowl and then pulls out a knife-shaped object. You hear a muffled squish as black ichor flies everywhere. "Help me with the pan will you? I want to make these cookies before everyone else comes in, you know how it gets."

She sounds-


You examine the squirming masses on the counter further.

Muffled noises. A crash. Another clang. One of the white eyes staring at you - directly at you - seems to reach one tentacle out towards you, as if asking for help, before flopping off the table with a wet squelch.

"Oh, the batter is getting cold, do please hurry it up!" It calls back to you. "Remember that we need to get it done before-"


Ask.

"Don't be silly, we're friends aren't we? That's what - would say! Of course I would want you to help me, now," It holds up a spatula-like object, taking a break from stirring a large bowl. Black batter drips off the spatula with wet slaps onto the floor, "Friends help each other. Sharing is caring!"

A muffled paused.

"Of course," she agrees. "It wont be long now!"


Search the area

There is no exit. The figure looks at you oddly. "Oh, we can take a break after we're done, there's still so much to do!


At this point it seems like you are stuck. The figure is clearly waiting for you to choose something from the counter. She points to it. White eyes stare back at you. You don't really have a choice at this point.

Action:

Pick up the strange black fluffy creature that is staring at you with white eyes.
Pick up the tentacled gelatinous creature that is staring at you with white eyes.
Pick up the strange fish-like creature that is staring at you with white eyes.
Pick up the beaker of odd grey liquid, the least of all three evils.

PROMPT 4 RESULTS (ONE RESULT ONLY PER CHARACTER):

Pick up the strange black fluffy creature that is staring at you with white eyes.

The figure puts it into the bowl and places it into the oven. You hear a strange beeping sound as thick black smoke emerges from the oven-like part in the counter. They don't seem alarmed as they glance you way, tell you everything is okay and-

Everything whites out.

WHEN YOU HIT OR ARE AT/ABOVE 30% INSANITY FOR THE DURATION OF THE META:
You can distinctly hear a whisper. It's easy to pick out; it's only three words and it repeats: "You ate me... you ate me... ate me... ate me..."



Pick up the tentacled gelatinous creature that is staring at you with white eyes.

The figure puts it into the bowl and places it into the oven. Everything seems fine. They grin at you widely. "I think it worked, try it!" Hesitantly you reach over....

Pick up the strange fish-like creature that is staring at you with white eyes.

The figure puts it into the bowl and places it into the oven. You smell a rich aroma, it reminds you of something, a strange nostalgia, but you can't place a finger on it. Perhaps it reminds you of home. You feel comforted. Someone seems to be singing, humming absently. Everything begins to blur slowly, fading to white, but oddly, you feel content.

((OOC: You gain full health))


Pick up the beaker of odd grey liquid, the least of all three evils.

"Oh!" The figure explains. "I think that was the last of the -. Well, at least we'll be putting it to good use. I hope you like it too! Here, try some now." She pours you a bit.

As it reaches towards you you feel oddly warm. Spirited. A strange sensation flashes through your head, odd and out of place.

Colour?

Something also bubbles within you as you feel light-heated, spirited. The figure laughs as well. You share your feelings with them.

Your way is blocked by a door.

It appeared before you suddenly, a massive door crafted out of varying gray values. There was no warning of when it would show up, or when it wouldn't: it was simply there and in your way.

EXAMINE:
Touch it.
It is solid.

Run into it.
THUDDD! That hurt!

Take 1 damage.

Try and kick in.
THUDDD! Your foot hurts now! Good going!

Take 2 damage.

Knock.
BOOMF BOOMF BOOMF.

Nobody answers.

Try to walk around it.
The door silently slides in your way.

Turn around.
The door does not follow you.

Try to walk backwards with your back to the door.
THUD. You walk backwards into it.




You reach out and touch the doorknob. As soon as your hand touches it, you hear a breathy voice call out. "Waaaaait!"

You feel a touch on your shoulder --

You feel arms wrap around you --

You feel someone take your hand --

You feel a small hand tug on the back of your clothes --

You stop as the person you hold most dear -- your best friend, lover, family member, rival, future child, future you, yourself -- reaches out and stops you, holds you. "Don't go. Please. There's still another way. You don't have to do this!"

As you listen, your eyes focus on the door in front of you. There is a feeling of finality, a sense of an impending end before you. The question is... how will you respond?

  • "I am going. You cannot change my mind."
  • "I am going, for it is my duty."
  • "I am going, whether you like it or not."
  • "I am going, for someone must."
  • "I am going, as the wheels are already set in motion. It is too late to stop it now."
  • "I am not going."

  • "I won't go."
  • "I want to stay with you. Let's... go elsewhere."
  • "Please let go of me."
