long story short, my school's making us think about college from the start of highschool, and we have a class to prepare us for college and everything.
and we looked at scholarships?
some of them were literally saying you had to have a certain skin color to apply and possibly get a scholarship (sure, i knew this was a thing, but it really didn't hit me until that moment).
seriously, two of them said you had to be black or something similar.
and i just
WELL
SORRY FOR BEING WHITE
emotion_donotwant
(i'm not saying that if you're not white it's suddenly really terrible and you should feel bad- i'm just really annoyed about this, partly because i would have been able to get two of them if i tried hard enough but nope i'm white so i can't get them.)

i can't find any scholarships because i'm a white middle-class girl, so i can't get anything, especially since all i ever do is freaking draw. WHAT. THE. HELL.
and then there's the people that ooze through high school and they get the scholarships! cat_scream

Kitalpha Hart i can't find any scholarships because i'm a white middle-class girl, so i can't get anything, especially since all i ever do is freaking draw. WHAT. THE. HELL.
and then there's the people that ooze through high school and they get the scholarships! cat_scream i think my family's a bit above middle class? but yeah.
oh yeah, that annoys me- although i kind of am oozing along (i'd probably win an award for all the putting off of homework i do and how anxious i get during tests) right now. >.>
and i play the cello, along with writing a minimal amount and drawing (somewhat horribly). apparently people look for things like that? idk. most of them (the scholarships) were for sports too, which i found hilarious- mainly because people always say that brains matter more, when the actuality was staring me straight in the face.
oh, and then the "you have to be a middle-class, (insert skin color thing here), (insert more things here)" was just annoying.
personally, it just reminds me of some f-cked up white savoir complex thing, but that's just me and my royally pissed mood right now.

well.. kind of. it depends sometimes.
but really, just because he's white and middle-class doesn't mean that they magically don't need a scholarship.
my god, world.
i do my homework about 40% of the time? that has to go up. :/
and i'm assuming we're in the middle of above middle-class. my mom's a doctor at the state university, so i'm assuming she gets a pretty good salary? she's not paid as much as people would expect. and my dad gets paid pretty well if he manages to keep things up and running, so to speak (he works with stocks).
and my stepmom's not employed atm.
so yeah, they make a fair amount of money, and we can afford to go on vacation, blah blah blah. but even then, i don't have money saved up and i would but a giant burden on my parents if i had them help me pay for college. i would love a scholarship that would help me out even the littlest bit, but i probably won't be able to because my skin tone and how much my parents make MATTERS SO MUCH.

he's been out 4-5 years. because of what happened, he can't work any job again. he's restricted to light lifting
and there are people out there that get money from scholarships, cash it out, drink/party away and never show to college. waste of money. save time and money. shoot those people.

I WUNDEER WHYYYY emotion_awesome frickin idiots XD unfortunately, some people are giant idiots and stuff. although there's many more people who actually use it for what its use was supposed to be used for- like actually using it for college and all that. if i had to guess, it would be much less people misusing the money versus people not using the money.

Kitalpha Hart i still think those people should be shot that's a bit drastic. maybe just those two things taken away or something? or fined. although even then, some people would argue that would be extreme. .-.

and if there's a guaranteed death penalty for such a thing, then less people might do it, especially if it's done right when they get the evidence. though if the squirrel it away and actually use it to benefit the kids or whatev (like, say, a good laptop for school), that's different.
