Astrology - Hunter's Moon Phase
Written by KayaTesagi

User Image

In the past Hunters would try and head out to hunt for food but many would go home empty-handed. After a while they noticed that the moon after the Harvest Moon had a strong influence on the tides of the ocean as well as the animals in the sea and on the land. They began to hunt around this moon phase and were then successful in getting their food. This is how the full moon after Harvest Moon got its name, the Hunter's Moon.

Herb Garden - Almond (Prunus Amygdalus)
Written by Materu Shioni

User Image

Gender: Masculine
Planet: Mercury
Element: Air
Associated Deities: Attis, Mercury, Thoth, Hermes
Magickal Uses: Money, Prosperity, Wisdom

Common Names: Greek nuts, Jordan almond
Medicinal Part: *Kernels
Description: The almond tree is cultivated, especially in California, southern Europe, and the Mediterranean countries. It usually grows from 10 to 20 feet high and has lanceolate, finely *serrate leaves on thorny branches. The large flowers usually occur in pairs and are soft rose to whitish in color.
Properties and Uses: *Demulcent, *emollient, *pectoral. For a good, cleansing facial scrub, include ground almonds in your preparation. Their emollient properties also make them suitable as ingredients in cosmetics. The oil derived from a bitter variety of almond has sedative properties and is sometimes used in cough remedies. The oil from a sweet variety makes a soothing ingredient in internal medications and can also be used externally as an emollient. Almond butter makes a rich protein substitute for peanut butter, usually well tolerated by diabetics.
Use oil, wash, or incense to anoint magickal wands or ritual candlesticks

Glossary:
kernels: the softer, usually edible part of a nut, seed, or fruit contained within its hard shell
serrate: jagged
demulcent: relieves inflammation and irritation
emollient: softens or soothes the skin
pectoral: relating to the chest

Pumpkins and Apples
Provided by koudelkaW

Sweet Potato, Pumpkin & Prawn Cakes

Serves 4

200g strong white bread flour
2.5ml salt (half a teaspoon)
2.5ml tsp dried yeast
175ml warm water
1 egg, beaten
200g raw prawns
225g pumpkin, peeled, seeded and grated
150g sweet potato, grated
2 spring onions, chopped
50g water chestnuts, chopped
2.5ml chilli sauce
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/2 juice from a lime
Vegetable oil for frying
Lime wedges for garnish

1. Sift together the flour and salt into a large bowl and make a well in the centre. In a separate container dissolve the yeast in the water until creamy, then pour into the centre of the flour and salt mixture. Pour in the egg and set aside for a few minutes until bubbles appear. Mix to form a smooth batter.

2. Peel the prawns, if necessary, then place in a pan with just enough boiling water to cover. Simmer for about 2 minutes or until the prawns have turned pink. Drain, rinse in cold water and drain again well. Coarsely chop the prawns, then place in a bowl with the pumpkin and sweet potato.

3. Add the spring onions, water chestnuts, chilli sauce, garlic and lime juice and mix well. Fold into the batter mixture carefully until evenly mixed.

4. Heat a 1cm layer of oil in a large frying pan until really hot. Spoon in the batter in heaps, leaving space between each one, and cook until golden on both sides. Drain on kitchen paper and serve with the lime wedges.
