The year is 2035, eight years ago the world fell into poverty. The economy collapsed in an avalanche of all that we had feared would come to be. Not a single market was left standing and everyone was left wanting.

A doomed world. A lost people. A nightmare in the waking world.

Then out of the darkness came a light, a new market; the highest in demand. "Live The Life Of Your Dreams!" DreamCo came to the people with the answer to this dreadfully drab existence. Like Pandora's box they opened a doorway to a new future away from the darkness! With a new product known as Neurvahna! A drug that stimulates your neural pathways of the emabrial-tempral to create dreams so vivid "You'll be living the life of your dreams."

But dreams come at a price.

Who wouldn't be willing to pay anything? Anything to have the life they always wanted? To leave their dead-end lives behind? What did it matter how much it cost?

What more could DreamCo do to them?

Nightmares. Bet-noire. What have you. Those night terrors that haunt us from childhood to our death beds. The very projection of all of our deepest darkest fears. If they could give us dreams, then why couldn't they give us Nightmares? A repossession of our precious time, when our payments were late. A dream sweeter then any suddenly turned into nothing but pure fear. Who carried out such a thankless job?

Reapers.
Measurable to the bringer of death. They have the ability thanks to DreamCo, to come into our dreams and walk amongst us. Bringing with them terror and pain. They carry out their jobs with great precision and loyalty to the fonder of DreamCo. Chang Si, a man of mystery and past most horrid. Shrouded in shadows he is the worlds savoir. Their king if you will. Even his own children work for him. One as a Reaper bringing the payments owed to his family. Another as a Weaver.

Weavers.
The ones who monitor us as we dream. They administer Neurvahna and bring our dreams to life. Keeping us breathing and alive. Perhaps more alive then we've ever been before. They keep our dreams sweet, able to come into the dreams if need be to keep a closer eye on them.

Everyone uses Neurvahna, most can't sleep without it. Reapers and Weavers however aren't allowed to sleep. They take a special drug to keep them awake. Never having to sleep, unless performing their duties in other people's dreams. Reality is unbearable. Dreams are priceless.

The World is Nothing But A False, Created In Your Mind.

Every dreamer is part of the dream network. This allows Weavers and Reapers to go from one dream to another without having to wake up.

Weavers: Neurvahna is such a powerful drug that the use of it has to be monitored. Not only for it's highly addictive quality. As soon as it's administered you pass out completely. The drug diverts so much energy to the paths of your dreams that there's a danger of the rest of your body shutting down. Weaver's are the ones who keep the dreamers a live. They monitor the dreams as well as the vitals.
Abilities - They can go into someone's dream to create a specific event that was requested or to simply make sure that the dream network is still active and running correctly.

Reapers: Every dreamer pays for their time in the dream network. However if that payment runs out or you don't make it on time, well then the Reapers come in to make your dream a living hell. The create nightmares by over stimulating your mind with your worst fears. Torturing you until your time in the network is up.
Abilities - They can use the dream network just as well as the Weavers can, though they don't normally. Each Reaper normally has one victim they are assigned to at a time. They can create things in the dream world normally pulling the dreamer's worst fear into being. They are normally excellent combatants.

Realists: Realists are the specialists of the rebels. They believe that the dream world is wrong, a crime against humanity. They feel that Chang Si has corrupted this once innocent world of dreams. They strive to wake everyone up and find a cure to the addiction.
Abilities - Realists can use the dream network as well. However they are weakened by it. Having to use the very drug they hate so much to get into it. They are less susceptible to the Reapers power, but Specialists can only get one weapon into a dream and have trouble moving from one dream to the next.

You Lie
Silent there before me
Your Tears
They mean nothing to me
The Wind
Howling at the window
The Love
You never gave
I Give To You
But Now
There's nothing you can do
So Sleep
In Your only memory
Of Me
My dearest mother.

Here's a lullaby to close your eyes. Goodbye. It was always you that I despised.

Shuffling footsteps filled the hallway that lead towards the main hall. Within the main hall were hundreds of -coffins- filled with sleeping humans. They were all peaceful, curled up in their dreams and monitored by the weavers. There were a few coffins where the illuminating light flickered harshly. Nightmares were taking place in those ones. Reapers doing what they did best.

Nanzu opened the door to the main hall slowly and slithered in. His half lided eyes glazed over as he wavered from side to side. Deep dark circles around his eyes as his head rocked slightly with every step. Anyone who saw him might think he was about to pass out. But they would be wrong. He never slept. He hadn't slept in over three years. Not once.

What good was a reaper who never slept? Amazing. He was known as a Day Dreamer. He navigated the dream network as he walked around awake. His conscious split between reality and the dream world. However it took his tole. Aside from being addicted to Insoma and relying on it to stay alive now, he couldn't tell the difference between the dream world and reality. Had he been anyone other then the boss's son he would have been locked up, or possibly killed.

Nanzu was looking for his sister. He was a twin you see, his sister a Weaver. She was possibly the best one. A young man who was carrying a tray of vitamin bags wasn't paying attention and almost crashed into Nanzu. When the looming man stopped and glared down at the man there was a strange reflection to his eyes. He didn't see human's the way they were supposed to look. This weaver was a grotesque jabbering creature. The apologies wasted on crowded ears filled with the screams of victims.

Swift, powerful, and deadly. The weaver was lifted off his feet by his throat and Nanzu's normally wasted eyes were large and a small smile twitched at the corners of his mouth. A small murmur of a laugh leaving his lips before turning into a roaring. He tossed the creature off to the side and then stepped on him. A large black boot crushing down on brittle ribs.

After that it was like a switch. Nanzu was back to swaying and looking ready to pass out. Muttering his sister's name over and over again. "Jia. Jia. Jia, where are you? Jia."

I don't feel enough for you to cry. Here's a lullaby to close your eyes. Goodbye.

I wish that this night would never be over
Forget about the sunrise
There’s plenty of time to sleep when we die
Fight the sleep in your eyes

So let’s just stay awake until we grow older
I don’t wanna miss a second with you
If I had my way we’d never close our eyes, our eyes, never!
I'm wide awake

Atop a large castle she stood, gazing down at the princess wishing the king a safe journey. The king was riding into battle against a fearsome enemy. The girl on the tower followed the king with her eyes before stepping into thin air. But when her feet touched the ground she was on the edge of a battlefield. Jia stared across the dream network at her assigned client. He was playing a king about to have a dramatic battle filled with dragons and other such nonsense.

The man was a truly a fool. He squandered his money in elaborate dreams while his family practically starved. How did she know? All she had to do was turn her gaze and she could see his daughter's young dream of a house on a hill with her mommy and daddy, and the shadow of what her family life was really like. But unfortunately, that could not be her concern right now. She had a dream to weave.

As the dream came to a close, Jia felt footsteps make the network tremble. Nanzu was approaching. The entire network shuddered in the wake of the Day Dreamer. Pinching her finger and thumb together, Jia made a small motion like plucking a string. A pulse went out that soothed the tremors and send a wave of calm through the network. Nodding in satisfaction, Jia closed her eyes and when she opened them again she was awake.

It took a moment for her to process the feel of reality reasserting itself, but it was a moment that was precious. When most people woke the emotional crash of "oh yeah I'm not insert-cool-dream here" was near maddening. To Jia, everything felt brand new. The feel of the sheets, the flow of the air, and the solid ground beneath her were more vibrant the she could ever create in a dream. It made her good at her job, but at the same time her own dreams had lost their luster. That was okay with her though. Dreams had torn her family apart.

Jia got up, stretched, and put one of the other weavers on network duty before going to meet her brother. She heard his voice calling for her long before she actually reached him. "Hello Nanzu." she smiled slightly at him. "Are you on duty or do you have time to get some coffee?" The courtesy of coffee was more for her sake then his but maybe her fellow weavers wouldn't be eying Nanzu like he was going to eat them.

Wary eyes watched Nanzu from all around the room as he swayed his eyes locked ahead of him. Though there was no doubt they were flickering everywhere. He was looking in both the dreams and the reality for his sister. He knew she was the best at what she did, but he also knew her as just his sister. Nanzu had never been close to his mother and had been dragged to his father's work ever since he was little. Jia was the closest thing to something precious he had. After he had become the Day Dreamer his father had seen him as nothing more then a tool, but still treated him sweetly. So that he would do what he wanted.

"Jia. Jia. Jia. Jia...." The constant murmur was little more then a whisper rising into a projecting voice and dying back down. It wavered even the dream world. Then she came up to him he stopped moving and tilted on his feet. "Jia...." Her name was a dark whisper on his lips accompanied by what many would mistake as a lunatic's smile. It was actually that of a happy smile for him. He watched her for a moment his eyes actually moving to meet hers. She was resonating slightly, that meant she'd just come out of the network.

Nanzu heard the request for coffee and nodded his head lightly. "Nanzu is off duty...I wanted us to have..." He had to pause and think about the time it was. He would have looked at a clock, but they never looked right or told the correct time. So he shrugged. "...breakfast together." He grinned and it looked crooked and sinister. Everything he did looked that way though. If you hadn't slept for three years, you might be the same way. He leaned down and kissed her forehead gently. His hand touching he cheek. His skin was cool, but his touch was calm and gentle. Unlike his appearance.

I don't feel enough for you to cry. Here's a lullaby to close your eyes. Goodbye.

The sight of Nanzu's smile would make most normal people run for the hills or worry for Jia's safety. Jia smiled wider and maintained eye contact. After all, this was her twin and she trusted him implicitly. Jia wasn't much of a fighter. Most weavers doubled as the sleeping human's bodyguards while they were "online". Rebel attacks were becoming a more frequent sight around the DreamCo. halls.

Jia noted the pause in Nanzu's sentence but figured she could update him on the time in a moment. Right now she let him go through his way of greeting, placing a hand over the cool one on her cheek. "Breakfast it is then." she spoke. Taking his hand, Jia lead the way to the break room. The break room was stocked with various foods and drinks and rather comfortable chairs. DreamCo. went to some length to give the Weavers and Reapers the creature comforts. Jia figured it was more a show of affluence than any sympathy for DreamCo.'s employees.

After selecting a couple of breakfast sandwiches and filling up a cup with coffee, she settled at a small table in the corner. She let her brother get settled while she took a deep breath of her coffee. She was about to start on the sandwich when another Weaver came in. "Miss Si we have--" the young woman at the door stopped at the sight of Nanzu.

She gave the woman a sharp look. "What do you have?" she spoke in a serious voice. The weaver looked startled and stood a little straighter. "Um-W-We... Think there are Realists attacking the network." Jia sighed. "You think? Secure the network. I'll go see what they are up to." The woman scampered off and Jia turned to Nanzu. "I'll be right back."

Jia curled up in her chair and closed her eyes. The Dirva in her system let her slip straight into REM sleep. There were indeed some strange fluctuations in the network. She sensed the other Weavers locking down the other parts of the network. Jia made a sweeping motion and an image formed in front that showed where the problem was. A quick step and she came up behind a man making wild gestures trying to bring the dream down. The man turned as she entered and pulled a short sword on her.

"Stop that! You'll kill the very person your trying to save!"

"Says the DreamCo. whore!" the man shouted back and swiped at her with the sword. Jia tried to dodge and got nicked on her shoulder. A sharp cry burst from her lips and she clasped a hand to her shoulder. She sent out a pulse into the network that basically lit the dream scape up like a giant beacon. She then withdrew to the edges of the dream trying to keep a distance from the Realist while still holding up the dream. The Realist had no idea the kind of wrath he had just brought down on himself. All Jia had to do was wait.

You made it so sweet 'til I woke up on the concrete...

As soon as they entered the break room the people who were already in there took cautious note of the twins. Most of them were calmed by the fact that Jia was there with Nanzu. Even the Reapers seemed a little shaken by the intimidating man.Yet, he didn't seem to take notice of them. He was focused on his sister, not the creatures surrounding them. Following her like a young child might if being led by the hand of their older sister. Sometimes Nanzu was much more childish then he seemed.

As they were sitting there Nanzu looked at the sandwich before him and tilted his head. Catching it right as it grew crab legs and quickly taking a bite out of it. It tasted like a normal sandwich, but looked rather grotesque as he ate it. He had gotten through maybe half of the sandwich when he looked up at the doorway. Someone called for his sister before stopping in their sentence. Nanzu glared at them and then looked to his sister. Jia had word to do apparently. He nodded lightly and watched her switch into the dream network.

Jia slipped into the dream and Nanzu's focus shifted with her. Because she was sitting right next to him it was easy for him to keep track of her in the dreams. Watching carefully. He worried about his sister, it was only normal. He could see Jia as she pulled and twisted the dreams the way she needed. Then she found the problem. A man with a sword. Nanzu appeared to just be watching.

One swing. It was the last action that man would ever make. Both the dream network and the real world echoed with a screaming roar. The ground shook in the dream scape and the sky turned a into a miasma of purple and red. Dark tendrils swirled through the thick mist and skeletal hands tore at the man's feet. Suddenly Nanzu was standing behind the man. Reaper's weren't supposed to touch people in the dream world. They could use weapons, but they weren't supposed to make contact. You could contaminate the nightmares with your own. In most cases this would lessen the effect.

"If you die in the dream world..." Nanzu's voice eerily echoed around them. "...you die in real life." Suddenly he wrapped his arms around the man and bit into his shoulder like a savage beast. There were flashes of images and the Realist let out a terrible scream. Thrashing in Nanzu's arms he screeched pitifully. Nanzu's nightmares were worse then any. He lived in the fears of others and himself for every waking moment. Yet he still had nightmares. He filled the man with his emotions and nightmares. In the dream the Realist began decaying and falling apart. In real life his brain was over stimulated until he died, his brain literally frying.

Nanzu stood in the dream scape covered in blood from his lips dripping to his shirt. He was breathing heavily and a single tear rolled down his cheek. He threw back his head and gave an angry cry. They had hurt Jia. That was too much. The dream network shook and spastically wavered as the miasma seemed to flare out like a super nova. He went slack as he stood there and shook.

In the break room Nanzu had overturned a table and tossed two reapers who were trying to calm him down. One had hit the wall and gone unconscious, the other was writhing in pain on the floor. Nanzu sat on the floor next to Jia and he held her hand waiting for her to wake up. His dream form was staring at her emptily as if expecting her to leave as well. "Jia...Jia..." Nanzu muttered and rested his head on her hand in a motion craving for her attention. "Wake up...wake up...." There was a raw horrendous fear to his voice.

I don't feel enough for you to cry. Here's a lullaby to close your eyes. Goodbye.

It didn't take long at all for the angel of wrath to descend upon the unsuspecting Realist. The ground shook and the sky became a twisting shadow of itself. Then there Nanzu was standing behind the man. In the blink of an eye the Realist was dead and Nanzu was the one crying. Jia shielded her eyes from the outpouring of energy. Working quickly she built a wall between the current dream and the rest of the network. That way if the dream collapsed it would be the only one effected.

But just as quick as it came the energy relaxed and Jia was left with Nanzu's shaking dream form. Wasting no time, she ran over and pulled Nanzu into a tight hug. "It's okay. I'm right here. See? Nothing but a scratch." she tried to calm him. This close to his dream form she could hear his voice from the waking world. The fear she heard was echoed by her own. She knew where that fear came from and the dark terrible secrets that were the Si family legacy.

Jia closed her eyes and buried her head into Nanzu's shoulders. Transferring back into the real world she woke with a sharp intake of breath. The air tasted of blood an fear and phantom pains ran up her arms. For a terrifying instant she thought she was still in the dream until she felt Nanzu's hand on hers. Relief flooded her bringing tears to her eyes. She pulled her body out of the curled up position she'd been in and vaulted into her brother's arms.

From her position she could see the injured Reapers. That must have been where the smell of blood was coming from. Medics rushed in to tend to the fallen Reapers. One of them looked at her but she just waved them off and went back to clinging to Nanzu. She wasn't sure who she was trying to reassure anymore, her brother or herself.

Nanzu's dream form shook in her grasp and his violent tears slowed down. He could feel her as if she was real as anything else, but not everything he thought to be real was. She was still in the dream network. That meant she very well could be trapped here. His mind reeled and his dream form closed his eyes desperately. Luckily she didn't stay with him there. She soon left the dream network as everything settled down.

Jia woke up and then within an instant was in his arms. Nanzu pulled her into his lap like a child and held her comfortingly. She was crying now, but she was awake. That was what mattered to Nanzu. His voice was soft and echoed with a gentleness that was reserved only for Jia. "I'm here. You're awake...you're awake." He reassured her and placed his forehead against her's. "I won't forgive them..." This was a low whisper that echoed in the dream network but was just barely heard in the real world.

Nanzu had two fatal flaws. The fact he was crazy and split between worlds. Then the fact that he had no restraint. Especially if you hurt his sister. That signed your death warrant. He had killed Reapers, Weavers, and Realists alike for upsetting or hurting her. He held her and hummed a soothing lullaby.

Within the dream network his form suddenly melted into the shadows. Weavers used the threads and dream lines. Nanzu was a Reaper, he followed something else. The embrial-paths. The actual activity reactors of the human mind. Nanzu could follow them and they're surges of electrical activity to find his victims. Realists had less of Neurvahna in their system which made their connection weaker as well as their dream-selves. He was following the dying line of the man he had killed. It was faint but there. Whoever had done this, ordered this attack, he was going to make sure anyone involved faced the consequences.

It didn't take long for a Weaver to complain about the dream network being disturbed in an -offline- district. It was supposed to be offline to employees because it was an unmonitored area that the rebels had wired themselves. Very dangerous. However as soon as she followed it to Nanzu she stopped. Seeing the man holding his twin protectively and rocking her in his arms. The Weaver was trembling and took a step back. She knew better then to interrupt.

I don't feel enough for you to cry. Here's a lullaby to close your eyes. Goodbye.

They're all reactions!
One thing begets the next. A man has a weakness, he's flawed.
That flaw leads him to guilt. The guilt leads him to shame.
The shame he compensates with pride and vanity.
And when pride fails,
despair takes over and they all lead to his destruction.
It will become his fate...
Something's gotta stop the flow.

Machines were going crazy, rebel weavers were having fits. One after another anyone who was hooked up to the dream network was falling. Dying from over stimulation. They writhed in pain and screamed, their consciousness caught in a dream that was quickly becoming a nightmare. Though others were screeching about a Reaper raid, Azar knew better.

Azar V. Fortuna, also known as Fortune's chance. He had a Spanish mother and an Italian father. His mixed accent was remarkably hard to understand at times, but if you could get around it; then you knew that whatever he was saying was important. He wasn't a newbie like the idiot who had tried to break down a dream on his own. He had observed and knew exactly who was doing this. It wasn't a raid...it was one person. A single man in his twenties. A reaper that death himself feared. Or perhaps he was death...caught between the worlds now.

Azar heard another scream and shook his head. "A dosis! Date prisa!" He commanded and a woman gaped at him. However a male weaver nodded his head and dosed Azar with six units. More then double what other Realists took normally. Thrown into the sleep he felt the network quaking. Quickly he rushed into the dream-scape and tore his way into the nightmare. His eyes were sewn shut in this form and a scythe was on his back. Azar was known as "The Grim". He was there specialist in destroying reapers. He and Nanzu Si had met before. Now here they were again face to face. "Uscire! Now!" The other dreamers didn't argue and were quickly pulled from the dream by the weavers.

Smiling at his -friend- of over three years he bowed his head. "Loosing your collera again?" His heady voice echoed amongst the breaking walls and structures. "Shall yo aliviar su ira?" Realizing his fault he grinned and spoke again. "Relieve your anger?"

He's convinced himself he's god, we're just reminding him he's not. It takes humility to remember who we are.

Translation: Dosis = Dose
Date Prise = Hurry
Uscire = Exit, get out
collera=temper, anger
Yo aliviar su ira = I relieve your anger

From within the dream Nanzu was causing chaos and destruction. His death count was up to four. His eyes were flaming and his cold shadows reached out building horrors that no man could accept. No man but Nanzu that is. These were his nightmares, the things that scared him when he slept and every dreamer was feeling his pain, his fear. All of it. It was breaking them, destroying them one by one; and all it took was a single bite from this Day Dreamer.

Outside, in the real world it was almost impossible to tell what was happening. If it wasn't for the fact his body temperature was dropping dangerously and his body was shaking no one would know the effort he was putting forth. However it didn't stop him from coddling his sister. He held Jia and kept humming. It wasn't a certain tune, just a frame of notes soothing and dark. He had his eyes closed and his head resting against her's. He would take care of her and he would destroy those who had hurt her.

Back in the dream network's offline district. A new dreamer had appeared. Black hair and patched eyes. It was the glistening red scythe on his back that gave it away. Finishing off his current prey he turned his attention to The Grim. He met the grin with a snarl of teeth. "You...You hurt her..." His voice echoed but didn't leave his lips. He could barely hear what anyone was saying. It didn't matter. He threw his head back and a roar rivaling a dragons left his lips. He seemed to tear duel swords from the shadows that danced around him. Made from flesh, bone, eyes that shifted, snakes weaving around his hands, spiders crawling up his flesh.

Nanzu launched himself towards The Grim and his swords clashed with the scythe. His enemy had the advantage of being unable to see the horrors surrounding him. He had deliberately dulled his senses so he could fight the people like Nanzu. But Nanzu was a determined soul and his searing hatred for the people who had attacked his sister was more then enough to fuel the fight.

I don't feel enough for you to cry. Here's a lullaby to close your eyes. Goodbye.

Not superhuman
(I'm not superhuman)

Someone save me from the H A T E
It's just another W A R
Just another family torn
(We're falling from our faith today)

Just a S T E P from the edge
Just another day in the W O R L D we live

Screaming. Terror and death. The stench of urine and blood filled the hallway. The base of the rebels was hardly a place for human beings, let alone children. You'd always hear stories of the people in the base and their children. However there was an exception.

Her name was Tya. Standing at four feet exactly and weighing under seventy pounds. She was a small and fragile looking child who had just watched her ninth birthday pass on the calender. No one celebrated it, at least not really. Azar had wished her a happy birthday and given her a new book. That was enough for her. What was she celebrating? Another year of survival? Or another year her parents would never come back?

Her wheelchair made a quiet squeaking noise as she made her way towards the sounds of panic. She entered the room just in time to see Azar go under and a lot of people come out. She sighed and rolled over next to Azar. She looked at his face and simply watched as his eyes flickered beneath the eyelids. She brushed a strand of his hair out of his face and looked around the room briefly.

The weaver who was monitoring Azar looked at her and gave Tya a smile. She didn't return it. "Is it him?" The man became solemn and nodded his head. "Yeah...it's the Daydreamer." That was all she needed to hear. She rolled over to an empty table and slid to the edge of her chair. "Help me up. I want to monitor." No one argued with the child. The weaver simply walked over and picked her up. She was so light he looked a tiny bit alarmed by how frail she was in his grasp. However he set her down and let her get comfortable.

For most people Neurvahna was administered in a single injection. However, because of how young she was they had to do it slowly and through an IV. So she lay there as they placed the bendy straw like needle into the back of her hand. She began counting backwards from fifty. By the time she reached twenty-two her voice was hardly above a whisper. By fifteen she was out, mumbling in her sleep.

Four spider like legs scuttled across the ground. Switching pace from a fast bug like run, to a slow crab like saunter. The creature that walked through the now nightmare scape was unlike any human. Though it held a vaguely human shape. Actually two. It appeared to have the upper body of a grown female and the lower half was somewhat male in appearance. With four arms, four legs, and no eyes. Though the strange thing was that after every step there was a small patch of green moss and swirling flowers. Like a small drop of spring amongst the darkness.

It didn't take Tya long to find the spot where the two were fighting. Swords and scythe clashed fiercely and it seemed like an almost even match. As long as Azar wasn't touched by the Daydreamer then he was even with the other. Though it seemed like Azar might have had the upper hand right then. Perhaps the Daydreamer had used too much energy already? For now she simply stood in the background watching them.

Jia let Nanzu adjust her position to something more comfortable. She took several deep breaths and let the whispered words flow over her. Calm descended once again as Jia came back from the emotional shock. Nanzu was humming to her. It wasn't something recognizable but it seemed distinctly like her brother.

But something wasn't right. As Jia shifted slightly in her brother's grasp she placed her hand a little higher that it had been. What she felt was a drastic difference in temperature. Not only that but he seemed to be trembling. Jia had mistook it for fear earlier, but the truth was slowly dawning on her. Nanzu was pouring power into something and it was starting to take its toll.

"Nanzu, what are--" she started to whisper, when one of his previous statements flooded her memory. "I won't forgive them..." Normally the statement wouldn't hold much immediate threat from someone who was awake, but this was the Daydreamer. Jia had almost made the fatal mistake of forgetting exactly who her brother was. He was undoubtedly chasing after the Realists heading strait for their staging area. She tightened her grip on her brother and spoke. "Oh Nanzu... One of these days your going to get yourself killed. But not today, okay?" she pleaded.

Jia's gaze hardened. There wasn't much she could do without going back into the network. Unfortunately, one of Dirva's drawbacks was that while it stayed in your system far longer than the other drugs, it relied heavily on the emotional centers of the brain. In other words, Weavers had to be calm or relatively emotionally stable to dive into the network. Jia wasn't calm enough yet, but there was still a small loophole she could exploit. She might not be able to connect, but Nanzu was always dreaming.

As a high level Weaver she could synchronize with a dreamer and keep their vitals stable if there was an emergency. It was dangerous because you could cause yourself damage. Jia was willing to take that chance. She took a few seconds to listen to Nanzu pounding heartbeat and began breathing when he breathed. She fell into a meditative state as her heart began to beat in time with her brother. Eventually, a more stable pattern settled over the two of them that Jia held onto with all her might.

Visions swirled over her field of view. She saw Nanzu facing off with a familiar presence. The scene was blinking in and out with reality, but Jia recognized the scythe. "Azar..." she whispered. In those early days, Jia was kept so busy supporting the budding network that she never had a good chance to talk to the Spanish Italian. It seemed things were coming full circle. For a brief instant she sensed another presence, but couldn't make out who it was. It wasn't like Jia could do anything about it. All her concentration was on feeding Nanzu energy to make sure he didn't make this a suicide mission.

You made it so sweet 'til I woke up on the concrete...

Azar knew that it was useless to try and talk to Nanzu. He understood that once the Daydreamer was in this kind of state there was no reasoning with him. Azar didn't exactly want the young man dead. Actually he felt a great sympathy and pity for the creature who was lunging towards him with the intent to kill him in the most grotesque way possible. It was a small flaw of his.

Their battle began to rage on and Azar could see the stress it was taking on the other's body and psyche. He knew he couldn't worry about It right now though. Even if he had sympathy for the devil he couldn't afford to let it slide. He had to do what was needed for the Realists and the other innocents. It was his job as one of the rebels to fight against the reapers to keep his people safe. If that meant destroying Nanzu, or dying for the cause, then so be it.

Suddenly Nanzu was over powering him. With a fresh wave of energy that flared and sent Nanzu flying backwards. He let out a yelp of pain as his shoulder bled and nightmares began flooding into his mind. He could handle them better then the others though. He had been a reaper himself after all. He got to his feet but he had slowed down. Nanzu was taking advantage of that and seemed to only be getting faster.

He's convinced himself he's god, we're just reminding him he's not. It takes humility to remember who we are.
