Forcing him to speak is useless, and more often than that, triggers his nervousness.
▪ Attentive Since he is very quiet and withdrawn, Akeru spends most of his time watching and listening. He discovered that was the best and most effective way to learn and well, it was also a talent that helped him on the shinobi field. He is also very methodical and will not bend from the standard procedure unless a shortcut is truly beneficial (if a shortcut exists, he will teach both methods, irregardless of his own opinion).
▪ Encouraging He may have low self-esteem, but the natural charisma he inherited is expressed as open encouragement to others. He talks little, but is good at talking when necessary, and thus to say things "right on the point" to stoke back up a colleague's or student's spirits. In that way, he is very much like an ideal parent, despite his own youthful age.
▪ Persistent When he has his mind set to a task, he will pursue it relentlessly. Even though he was told that the Eseijutsu field was not for one of Uchiha Ichizoku, he pursued the field with great spirit, and succeeded eventually as an Eseinin. He does this to honor the last memory of his late godmother, former Hyuuga head of family Yokou, because his godsister Elruda refused to walk "the failed path of her mother". Today, he and the princess of Hyuuga still compete -- Akeru, to prove Yokou's philosophy right -- hence perpetuating his unceasing hard work in the Esei field.
▪ Generous Probably due to his work as a Eseinin, Akeru is very generous to those of lesser fortune. Because utilizing clan resources to help others would make the Uchiha Council complain, he uses his own earnings from missions.
▪ Not So Great Nerves His nervous breakdowns in many pressuring situations is due to his personal history and his clan. He had never gotten over his nausea looking at the Sharingan straight-on even three years later, and seeing the Sharingan will send him into a quite literal panic attack (his own reflection counts, probably even worse, due to the first image it makes his mind relate to).
The other factor is constantly getting beaten down by his clan, for his inability to utilize Katon, and thereby even while he should be of legal age to inherit the clan, he can never move past the level of heir despite being the last living member of the former main family. Probably because they treat him as a child (for by clan law he is a child as long as he cannot perform the Coming of Age rite), Akeru had never quite gotten past those mental trappings despite reassurances from his Konohagakurian colleagues. The fear of getting bullied is quite ingrained in him.
▪ Damaged There is no question, however, that Akeru is a damaged child. Despite his good nature and his innate determination, seeing as his self-esteem is quite low, it is very easy for him to grow doubts -- particularly if such doubts are about himself.

TAB TABb a c k g r o u n d ↴ TAB↪ the secrets you don't need to know Forward He discovered young that the real demons were not from the lineage one had the misfortune to be born in.
For the most part, the misfortune of individuals was due to the misfortune of circumstance. When the individual was famous (or conversely, infamous) those misfortunes become even more open to the public scrutiny. He was quite certain anyways that was how Uchiha Ichizoku became unanimously equated with ill omen -- for quite a long time he almost believed that too, given an unfortunate incident in his youth.
But a wise woman from Otogakure, a Sennin, now late, said to him: "That was too simplistic a manner of thinking." If Uchiha was bad luck, did this mean then their Senju cousins were living incarnations of good luck...? Certainly not, for those hailing from that line seemed to be just as frequently plagued.
He remembers now, the time he was too afraid once to even recall. Because, although there were malignant signs, there also lingered signs of protection. Love. Reassurance. Faith. And most of all, good people to whom he was very indebted to for retaining his sense of self today.
Mundanity That Blinds the Sharpest Sight
There was a time when he believed (with a child's simplistic eyes) that the world was black and white, that there was good and then there was the bad, and that the routine of every day life was the normality that gave stability form. After all, he had everything. A strong, respected father. A beautiful, kind mother. And an older brother who was the cornerstone of his world.
(He was right, of course, in some respects.)
His father was the second of the previous head of family's three children -- two sons and a princess who died young. But then his uncle took the mantle of head of family and his father became heir to the childless chief for many long years to come.
But his uncle would one day welcome the birth of a princess, a daughter called Saiya.
(He didn't know, but his father's reasons for tolerating the clan, their rules, and a loveless, dictated marriage shattered as far back then into too many tiny pieces.)
All he knows, was that when he sees his father tense at compliments from others, he fervently wants to think it was because his father was humble of nature, but really, who was he trying to deceive...?
Malignant Signs Before the Black Storm
He truly (honestly, earnestly) likes the people his father introduces the family to. He met one of his godfathers only once -- that person called Senju Zephyr -- his papa's Jounin Sensei. But that person left Konoha shortly afterwards (he was too small to remember that person very clearly) and from two, once again one was left.
His other godfather, Nara Shikamori, was his papa's fellow teammate. His godmother, Yokou, who led the Hyuuga family was papa's other teammate -- he liked her best of all, she always gave him candy, and even though Koku-aniue was truly the one who was bright, she had never failed to take notice of him.
(He liked Elda too, his godmother's child, even though she was a bit mean and always put creepy-crawly bugs into his hair and shirt.)
What he didn't like was the looks his papa gives to Yokou-san, because, it was a thousand times more than the gentlest look papa gives to mama... It wasn't right.
It couldn't be right.
The Period of Darkness You Don't Want to Remember
When the horrors finally come, a part of him truly wasn't surprised... But the part of him that clung to the mundanity of that box-garden from their pretend family cannot take it. The part of him that wants to remain as a child cannot -- could not -- equate the coldly demonic gaze of his papa (as red as the blood that had finally stopped flowing from his mama's too-still body) with the person who had only gently tucked him in the evening before.
So instead he shuts his eyes, and screams until his voice fell hoarse, even as Koku-nii cries out for him to run.
(It's his fault Koku-nii died. His fault, his fault...his fault... Koku-nii had to fight because he didn't -- couldn't! -- run.)
When the grandpas of the clan touch him, and ask if he was all right, he could only vaguely -- mutely -- nod. He had screamed away what little voice he had inside him, after all.
Family Destroys, Family Repairs
He knows why they send him to Oto -- to Saiya-nee.
That was ok. He didn't want to be Uchiha anyways.
(Even though he knows the notion was ridiculous, he couldn't help but feel his whole body was unlucky.)
After all, if those eyes didn't exist, papa wouldn't kill mama and aniue, right?
In Saiya-nee's village, he made for himself a new name.
But even though his name changed, he couldn't change the dirty blood in his veins. The loneliness was still there, and...the fear... If papa betrayed mama that easily, weren't all people so capable of easy betrayal then?
(Like Humpty Dumpty, Saiya-nee couldn't quite put him back together again. But he meets someone who was even better acquainted with the darkness than he.)
She could not see.
She could not hear.
Her name was Yubei Rosie.
For her -- it was just a tiny, little feeling -- but he was willing to look closer at the world again. Because if someone could show her how pretty (even though it could be quite ugly too) this world could be, he would be the one able to, wasn't that right?
Little by little, because he became willing to see again, he met new people.
Seeing Value Only When Learning How Others Lost
When Saiya-nee fell, the Lady-sennin Odoriko Yuumei took him from what was left of Oto. He didn't understand her desperation to protect his life -- he was only an acquaintance at best to her, she taught him a few things, but that was all -- and yet that was the first time he saw boundless loyalty even in the face of all that was ruinous.
Where he tried very hard to forgot, she forced him to remember.
After all, deny as he may his name, it was part of who he was, and the people who illuminated his early life as stars still lingered as long as he had breath in his body.
(Even though he didn't remember them when seeing his godparents so happy together in the streets of Iwa, reunited at last, it also ached to see their happiness, because they always made sure not to touch a fourth spot that would never be filled ever again.)
When he wanted to stay a little longer with what he believed in, his godparents did not force him to choose Konoha.
( Yuumei's Kuro roared fiercely at them, a mother tiger's protectiveness of her cub -- nor could Nara Shikamori's threat move Lady Yuumei, her intent to keep him clear: "That child was not born to be a puppet." )
He stays by Yuumei's side, until once again, a second city fell.
At the End of a Cycle You are Back When You Began
From Konoha to Oto...
From Oto to Iwa...
But at the end of the cycle, the prodigal always returns home.
(Over the years, she had taught him all that she knew.)
They left Iwa when the Civil Riot broke out.
(There was no other place to take him to that would be peaceful. Kiri would desired too much the Sharingan.)
So she brings him home. There would be no happiness, but at least, there would be security.
(But the time of the world awaits no one: the Civil War of Hi no Kuni rages, and she dies like aniue and the others before him, protecting him, leaving him completely alone...)
Introspection
He had lost count of the times he was left singular.
He had lost count of the times people returned to him again.
But he does not think the warmth from these people ever changed, even as their faces changed, because it is their names and deeds that he carves into his heart.
When he looks into the stormy eyes of Elruda now -- Elda-chan's gray eyes no longer sparkled brightly with happiness -- he sees much pain in there, and wonders, if only a little, if his eyes resembled that once too?
(He tells her -- albeit unfairly, it was her mother who died after all -- that no, Elda-chan was wrong, that the Esei path had not failed, because there was a hospital and village carrying on Yokou-san's love for life.)
Even though so many people he adored were gone now, his existence could keep them alive.
And so he keeps walking.
