Liam had been rather surprised to get the birthday invitation. He had never gone to a boy/girl party before. Though his siblings had many times. He wasn't really one for parties and usually tended to just get a present for the individual and give it to them before the party. That way the other kid never felt slighted by his not being there.
However, this was a girl that he actually liked. A girl that he was always thinking about, though he rarely spent that much time with her. It had started after he had helped her get out of a muddy situation.
He had no idea what to get her though..as he hadn't really gotten to know her all that well. He had mostly just spent the better part of half an hour giving her a piggy back through a mud ridden yard away from an oncoming downpour. He was going to have to go get some help from someone who knew what other girls liked. Like another girl.
The only girl he could think of was his sister Maergrethe. The only problem with that was he'd have to track her down first. One never knew where to find her on a given day. She fluttered here and there and never really settled down in one place. The most annoying thing, was that Liam was going to have to brave the popular areas, places he normally avoided.
With a sigh, Liam set off to track down his sister.

Maergrethe had just gotten settled on the Hogwart's lawn and was watching her brother Leoben playing with his many friends. It looked as though they were playing that strange frisbee game he had gotten into a few years ago. What was it called again? Extreme Frisbee? Maer snorted as she watched the boys twist and turn in an attempt to show off as they played. She snickered when two of them ran into each other and tumbled to the ground. You'd think they'd at least look around to make sure they wouldn't run into one another.
She sighed and laid back in the grass, trying to ignore where it was poking through her blanket and into her ankles. At least the bugs weren't crawling all over her today. That had been rather annoying, especially when those ants had started biting her. She glanced around cautiously and was surprised to see her brother Liam headed towards her.
He had an odd sort of look on his face, as though he was on a mission of some sort. "Hey Liam!" She smiled and patted a bare spot of her blanket so he knew he could join her. "Need help with something?"

Liam was relieved to have finally found his sister, he hadn't thought she would be out on the Hogwart's grounds so it was naturally the last place he had thought to look. She really wasn't one for getting bugs up her skirts or having them crawl all over her. Which was probably why she had a blanket out to sit on. He sat down next to her in indian style and sighed.
He ran a hand through his hair and then leaned over to rest his head on her shoulder.
"I have a problem..and I am hoping you can help me."

Maergrethe looked fondly down on her brother and brushed his hair out of his face. "What is this problem of yours?" She asked with a small smile.
For some reason she got super annoyed when Leoben was bugging and laying on her, but with Liam she didn't mind at all. It was probably because Liam was the quieter of the two and would just lay there without talking or moving. Leoben was always a constant wiggler and had his mouth running every moment and his voice often got on her nerves.
She leaned over to lay her head on top of Liam's. "This doesn't have anything to do with Destiny does it?" She asked in a teasing manner.

Liam closed his eyes when she brushed the hair out of his face and sighed slightly. It was a rarity for him to actually get so close to other people, save for his sister. Despite her wild ways, she did have a soft side and they tended to get along pretty well when she wasn't on a tirade or preaching to him about studying more.
He opened his eyes when she spoke and stared up into her violet eyes trying to figure out how to bring it up. He was a bit relieved and startled when she actually brought up Destiny's name in a teasing manner. He warily pulled himself away and eyed her closely before he answered. "Actually it does. How do you know about that?"

Maer let loose a laugh at his reaction and his surprise. "I've noticed you hang out with her quite a lot. Plus we've kind of become friends though I doubt you knew that. She's a nice girl. Did you know her birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks?"
Maergrethe had figured that Liam hadn't really known that there were kids talking about him and Destiny and how much time they were spending together. He was usually rather oblivious to the gossip and other things kids talked about in the school. If he knew just what was being said he would have blushed at her question.
"Oh," she exclaimed realizing at once what he was having trouble with. "You need help figuring out what to get her don't you?"

Liam was a bit surprised and perturbed to find out that his sister had attached herself to Destiny. He pursed his lips and eyed her in a disgruntled fashion. "Yes i did." he replied grumpily and turned to stare off into the distance, noticing for once that his brother was playing on the lawn.
"Did you come out to watch Leo play?" He asked in surprise. Normally his sister didn't just sit around and watch, she usually joined in on the game. What was happening? Was she actually becoming more girlish than she normally was?
Liam wasn't surprised when Maer figured out what he had come to get her help with. "Yes, I do. What do girls like? What do you think I should get her?"

Maer hid a smile behind her hand. It was so obvious that her brother liked Destiny. She knew that if she said anything he'd more than likely just close himself off and stop talking. It was just how he reacted to direct questions.
"Please, you know me. I came out to enjoy the weather. I'm not about to sit out in the sun where I'll sunburn. You know how red I get." She said sticking her tongue out at him. "It's no fair that you and Leo get tanned while I burn. It's just horrible."
Maer leaned forward and twirled her hair around her finger trying to think of what might be a good present idea. "Do you know her favorite color? You should get her something in that color. Maybe a stuffed animal? What kind of animals does she like?"

Liam's attention had been drawn away by a rather spectacular running catch of the frisbee by his brother Leo that he hadn't noticed his sister hiding the smile. "NICE CATCH LEO!" he yelled cupping his hands around his mouth and then glanced around to see if anyone had noticed his yelling.
He rolled his eyes at his sister's complaint. "Well it was smart of you to choose a nice shady spot. It's much cooler under here." He said leaning back on his hands and shaking his hair out of his face.
Maer's questions got him to thinking. What was her favorite color? Since he normally saw Destiny in her school uniform he didn't really have a clue to what her favorite color might be. Wait, she had that blanket that was her favorite which was lavender! That had to be her favorite color.
"Well I am pretty sure her favorite color is Lavender. I'm not sure what her favorite animal is though. I imagine though if it was something cute she'd like it no matter what kind of animal it was." He replied.

Maer winced at and held her ears. What was it about guys that they had to yell so much? She rubbed her ears to get the the ringing out of them.
"You could have warned me before you started yelling." she said frowning.
Maer smacked Liam on his left shoulder, and it wasn't light either. "Your welcome brother dear. Now if you'd stop hogging so much of my blanket that would be nice." She said noticing that he had somehow managed to maneuver her off into the grass.
"Lavender, that's a pretty color. I shall have to remember that. Oh, you could go with a badger, or an owl. I think she is really wanting one for her birthday, or so I've heard." She said nudging him slightly with her elbow.

Liam turned back to his sister to shrug apologetically. "Sorry I forgot to warn you. I wont' do that again." he promised.
He rubbed his shoulder and glared at her in annoyance. "What was that for?" He asked. He glanced down when she mentioned he was hogging her blanket and saw that what she had said was actually true. "Well..guess I'm not really paying much attention today. My apologies." He replied once more and moved over on the blanket. "I'll go before I bug you anymore." He said rubbing his shoulder since it was still stinging from her smack.
"A badger? Eh. those aren't that cue. I think she would prefer something cute." He said now rubbing his chin thoughtfully as his sister continued to speak.
"Oh and owl would be a good idea! I'll have to go write someone at home and ask them to buy it and send it asap. I don't have that much longer to get it. In fact..if I don't get that letter out today, it'll be late." He said with a frown.
"Thanks for the ideas, I appreciate it." He said shooting her a grateful smile and then nudged her back with his own elbow before he got up and hurried back to his common room to get started on the letter.

Maer wiggled her ears and frowned. "Well thanks for the apology at least."
Maergrethe crossed her arms over her chest and looked at him pointedly when he asked what the smack was for. Man..he really was into this girl. He was usually much more conscious about what he was doing. "You can say that again, " She murmured thoughtfully as he moved over on the blanket. She blinked slightly when he said he would go so he wouldn't bug her anymore. He should know that he didn't bug her nearly as much as Leo always did.
"More than likely," She said with a small smile as he thought over her suggestions. She was pleased when he said he liked her idea of getting an owl for Destiny. Her work here was done. She smiled triumphantly as he thanked her and then nudged her with an elbow.
"Watch those bony elbows mister." She shot at him as he hurried off.
"Well..he's definitely fallen for this Destiny pretty fast." She said watching him thoughtfully. "It's definitely time for me to meet this girl. We can't have him infatuated with someone that wouldn't get along with Leo or I."
