Alrighty then let's get things out of the way. We've been a little slow with the character profile walkthroughs so I'll be guiding you through one today. A second guide should be up shortly however which frames it in another way. Use one or the other. As long as it explains how to fill out the profile.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 19, 2012 9:08 am

Name:Jimmy
Okay lads. Right here guess what. We're going to put the name of our characters. Let's call our character Jimmy for now so we know what we're all talking about. To do this I just write Jimmy next to Name

Race:
Currently only Shinigami are available so for now we'll fill this out as 'Shinigami'. The other races may phase in but let's keep things simple for now.

Squad:
Now our Jimmy lad wasn't the smartest in the bunch and nor was he especially talented at precise fighting. Our Jimmy though he could run at something with a sword. Squad 11 sounds like a good fit to me.

High Concept Aspect: A phrase, word or something that explains our character in a heartbeat. Easy to digest and easy to get a feel for the character. It can be either humorous or serious. It's your choice. For our Squad 11 lad Jimmy we might start with the idea we want him to be good at hitting stuff damn hard. A title like 'Great Beast of the Sereitei" might be good as a start but we could get more creative. I'll leave it there for now though.

After this write a bit about what your High Concept Aspect means. We're not psychic and we can't understand what your phrase means automatically.

Trouble Aspect: The thing your character has trouble with. It could be a force of questionable morality that stalks them, it could be something they did (or had done unto them) in their past or it could be a personality factor. It's basically anything in your character's personality which will affect them throughout the story.

After this expand on it and write what exactly you mean. As always we're not all psychic.

Appearance:

You write about how your character looks here. This should focus on key features (Eye colour, hair colour and style, lack thereof hair, outfit, distinguishing features) first and then possibly move onto more precise features. If you want to write about your character's jawbones for example you're quite welcome to.

As long as we can clearly picture your character this section matters little else.

Personality:

Give us an overview of what to expect from your character overall. This should include aspects of the High Concept Aspect and Trouble Aspect as well as other personality factors to form a complete picture of your character and how the two aspects sit alongside each other.

Character Relations:

You met some guy? If you've got a meaningful relationship with him then write about it here. You met a love interest? Then write about it here. This is the section to go over all your key character relations even if they're with NPCs.

Personal Effects: These are items that are not standard equipment that you keep personally. They could be special pieces of equipment obtained during missions or anything you find lying around. For example if you were to have throwing knives they'd go here. If you were to later obtain special throwing knives for your character then they would also go here.

Essential Equipment: All the essentials. Rations, tents, radios. The stuff which keeps a person going on day to day and stops them from falling over dead.

Unique Items: Special items unique to your character. You got a ring from your character's fiance in the past? You'd put it here. Obtained a trinket from another character. Then it'd go here even if it was previously Personal Effects as it is now a special item from that character.

Your Stories

Background: Where Did You Come From? Write about where you were born, how your character grew up and the most lifechanging events in early years. For example in Batman this might be when Bruce Wayne sees his parents killed in front of him. It could also be something very simple that unlocks new facets or characteristics of that character.
Aspect: Like all other aspects. A quote, set of words, item or anything at all that defines this area of life.

Rising Conflict: What Shaped You? The event which truly shaped your character into what they are today and put them on the path. A good place for this for Shinigami is the Academy though it is possible to use entirely different areas as well. These should be the activating events that lead to both your Trouble and High Aspect in tandem with your 'Where did you come from?' section of the profile.
Aspect: Like all other aspects. A quote, set of words, item or anything at all that defines this area of life.

The Story: What Was Your First Adventure? The first time your character goes on a mission fill this area out. You can wait for the second or third as well but this focuses on the early days when you first start using your character. This should activate early changes in personality and prelude to further character development as they meet new people with new viewpoints.

You can also use this for another story if you like though.
Guest Starring: All your squadmates you went adventuring with in this mission. List them all here.
Aspect: Like all other aspects. A quote, set of words, item or anything at all that defines this area of life.

Here we end this section and move onto the second section of the profile. Now we press submit and make our first post in our profile.

And we say hello to section 2. This section revolves around your Zanpakto so we can catalogue important information on it easily.

Zanpakutō Information

Sealed Form

Sealed Zanpakutō:
Sealed Zanpakutō Appearance: What does your Zanpakto look like in its' sealed form? Sealed Zanpakto can be pretty much any weapon you like so try to keep this in mind when selecting one. If you want to swing around axes you're quite welcome to. When describing a weapon though you should try to describe the colours and also any extra details. Describing the shape of the end for hitting things with depends whether or not you want to veer from the standard. If you want to describe a weapon that doesn't actually exist in real life make sure to describe where it's grip, end for hitting things and suchlike actually are.

Zanpakutō Spirit

Zanpakutō Spirit High Concept: Much alike to your character's High Concept except this time for your Zanpakto which, being a spirit of its' own and thus having its' own agenda and emotions, will have different aspects.
Spirit Appearance: Describe what your spirit looks like. Is it humanoid? Animalistic? Something else entirely? Try to give us a picture of what this thing looks like so we can all imagine it.
Spirit Personality: Describe your spirit's personality like you would your character. It's worries, the things it's good at and its' quirks. Speech patterns might also be important here.

Shikai

PROTIP: Shikai is earned during the RP

Shikai Name: The name of your Shikai
Shikai Aspect: The aspect your Shikai embodies.
Shikai Release Phrase: The thing you say to activate your Shikai
Shikai Appearance: What your Shikai looks like physically. You should attempt to describe possible reiatsu effects, the transformation process, the length of time it takes to transform and any other details relevant to its' appearance.
Shikai Powers: The magical things your Shikai gives you access to. For example poisoning opponents. Firing lasers or walking on ceilings. As long as these things aren't usually possible without release then write about them.

Bankai

PROTIP: Bankai is earned during the RP

I'm not going to write specifically about Bankai as the format runs exactly the same and on the same logical thread as Shikai. The only difference is that Bankai is considerably more powerful (around five to ten times) than a Shikai and so try to keep it that way.

Bankai Name:
Bankai Aspect:
Bankai Release Phrase: [optional]
Bankai Appearance:
Bankai Powers:

Inner World: The inner world in which your Zanpakto inhabits. Describe the laws of the world, the appearance of the world and any possible emotional effects it has on your character. You could furthermore describe how your character feels about their inner world after they see it for the first time.

Well then. Nice one. That's post 2 finished. Onto post 3 then?

Other Skills

Okay now. I'm going to go onto this because it seems to be an area of confusion. When designing your character remember that your skills work on a formula something like this.

The total number of skills on the tier below (tier 1 is below tier 2 for example) must be greater than or equal to those on the tier above.

So your skills can look like this.

5 Skill Skill
4 Skill Skill
3 Skill Skill
2 Skill Skill
1 Skill Skill

or this.

5 Skill Skill Skill
4 Skill Skill Skill Skill
3 Skill Skill Skill Skill
2 Skill Skill Skill Skill
1 Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill

They could even look something like this.

5
4
3 Skill
2 Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill
1 Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill

But cannot look like this.

5 Skill Skill
4 Skill
3 Skill
2 Skill
1 Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill Skill

or this

5 Skill Skill Skill Skill
4 Skill Skill Skill
3 Skill Skill
2 Skill Skill
1 Skill Skill

Skills at 0 or at negatives do not count towards this. In addition to this negative skills do not give extra points.

Your skills should reflect your personality, backstory, character design and in general where you want this character to go. We use this system as it effectively prevents anyone from being good at literally everything.

Below is where skills are filled out. For a first time character we recommend this format as it gives maximal access to higher tier skills early on and uses all 30 points precisely while maintaining a pyramid of tower structure.

5 Skill Skill
4 Skill Skill
3 Skill Skill
2 Skill Skill
1 Skill Skill

Skills: [Total 30 points]

Superb [+5]
Great [+4]
Good [+3]
Fair [+2]
Average [+1]

Stunts:

Kido Known

Here list all the Kido your character knows. You start out with 43 Kido total. These are Hado 1-20, Bakudo 1-20 and 3 Kido from 1-40 of your choice. These Kido may either be created yourself or picked from a pre-existing list. The ability to make 21-40 Kido may be closed off after a certain point however and Kido which do the same thing as another in that zone will be automatically rejected. Make sure to check there aren't already Kido good for your character.

Bakudo

Hado

Chiyudo

Active Kido These are the Kido your character is currently using. Due to the sheer number of Kido this restriction prevents characters from being able to do literally everything via Kido. This however can be upgraded and a total of 16 Kido slots may be unlocked. Any Kido can be put in each slot.

As a side note as this is a story related restriction there is no punishment out of character for casting Kido you are not allowed to and no restriction on casting Kido you know not on this list. There may be In Characters demotions and punishments if you do it though such as suspending a Kido slot. Therefore you can actually use any Kido you like just not all the time.

Shunpo

From now on you obtain the Shunpo technique from the start. In light of this the Shunpo is now upgradeable and has four different stages of upgrades. Not all of them will be obtained by all characters as they are primarily there to reward speed based characters though most if not all should be able to achieve a Reiatsu Technique.

Reiatsu Technique: The basic level. An upgraded Shunpo that is affected by your reiatsu. This could do anything reiatsu based. For example setting your Shunpo on fire or releasing a shockwave as you exit Shunpo. Once you are permitted a Reiatsu Technique fill this section in with your Technique and we'll see if we'll approve it.

Movement Technique: An advanced Shunpo movement technique. This is the ability to modify your Shunpo so that it can be used unusually. For example being able to Shunpo backwards or divert a Shunpo mid flight to another location. Basically anything that modifies the core movements of the Shunpo. It could even be as basic as how Shunpo activates or as complex as allowing your character to make clones of themselves by using Shunpo.

Exit Technique: This is a technique performed upon exiting the Shunpo. It may be reliant on the power of the Shunpo for surprise attacks or something else. You'll have to get creative with this one for maximal effect.

Hoho Technique: A special technique that uses the Hoho in another part of the body. For example you could do a Shunpo with your arms to perform reinforced high speed strikes to overwhelm an enemy or perform a Shunpo headbutt. Anything that takes your fancy really.

Supernatural Powers
Special abilities rewarded for core shifts in your character. For example becoming a Vaizard would award the core Hollow abilities and would allow access to some branches of the hollow abilities.

Leave this blank for now as Vaizard Transformations must be achieved during the RP and a format for special powers will be provided.

Alrighty then. We've done the hard part. Now let's get onto the final post of this profile before we submit.

Now for the final post. Probably the easiest one when first designing a character.

Character Advancement

Skill Advanced: In this area you write which one of your skills was advanced. If it's Piercing Weapons write that. If it's Might then write that. Pretty self explanatory really.
Reason: When you've been told you've got access to advancing a skill you should write which skill you'd like to advance and what events caused this to happen. For example exerting yourself when fighting hollows may cause a Might point to be rewarded to your character or going above and beyond your limits might cause an Endurance point to be rewarded. In here you just write about why you think the point got awarded to your character with a link to the thread in which you believe it was gained.

And here's the end of the profile. Now you're ready to get it approved and get posting.
