Andromeda’s muscles twitched and her eyes fluttered as her sleep was bombarded with dreams of faces she could not place. Different voices were calling out her name and she wanted so badly to answer but she had no idea who they were. Everything was blurred but she could tell that the landscape had a different appearance than the one she was now in. Continuously she would shout out into the strange fields, asking who the voices belong to but she would only get a muffled answer, too quiet to hear. Her legs began twitching as she ran this way and that in her dream world, searching for…what? She couldn’t even tell what it was she was looking for anymore.
The unusual mare writhed under the tree she had awoken under the first night she realized she had no memories. It wasn’t uncommon for her to visit this spot in the hopes that it would shed new light on her situation, but it was always in vein. The grass always remained the same and the tree remained silent if it knew anything at all. She wanted to be able to either find the answers about her past or let it go so she may start over, but the second part had proved to be much more difficult than she had initially thought.
A male with a pelt as white as snow was beginning to approach her, and she felt fear. Not a normal fear but one that opened like a frozen pit in her stomach. She tried to force herself to awaken but she was trapped in the confines of her own confused mind. She screamed out, telling the male to leave her be but he kept approaching as though he hadn’t heard a sound. “Help me…” She implored in her sleep.

Deep was the moonless night, the myriad of stars twinkled in the sky, brighter than usual it seemed. The small female stifled a yawn, it was late and she had yet found a place to sleep that was not occupied by others who were grumpy when awakened. Dechtere smiled to herself, what sane creature would not be peeved when woken from sleep? As she mused upon this thought, a voice stopped echoed through the darkness, freezing the orange kilen in place. The voice was pleading, asking for help; she turned in the direction of the sound and began to run.
Her hooves skidded to a stop, lying before her was a starry mare with her muscles tensed and a cloud of fear emanating from the unconscious female. Dechtere slowly made her way to the sleeping creature, “Shhh, it’s okay, you are not alone. It is just a bad dream, please wake up. You are safe.” Her voice was soft and soothing, trying to coax the mare from her nightmare.
“Please wake up and leave the nightmare behind.”

The imposing white male looked up as a gentle voice broke the dome of darkness above them. The voice was telling her she was not alone and as though a weight had been lifted from her chest she was able to breathe more easily. “Leave the nightmare behind.” Yes, this was just a nightmare and she had the ability to awaken from it. Fighting the wall she finally managed to open her eyes, finding herself looking up at a beautiful female Kilen. Lifting her head from the ground she took a moment to compose herself before smiling warmly at her savior. “Thank you for that, I am only sorry you had to meet me in that state.” Taking one last deep breath in she tucked her legs under herself in a more comfortable pose.
“It is very kind of you to stop and take pity on a stranger.” Bowing her head respectfully she continued in a voice tinged with relief. “My name is Andromeda, and if you hadn’t come along I fear this night would have gone very differently.” She laughed halfheartedly at the last part, but fear was still evident. Her dreams were always vivid but they had gotten even more so as of late, almost to the point where she dreaded sleep.
