Shy-- Though obvious, Laini is a bit different than your average child, and from a small tot, she was one who brought many stares and ridicule to her ever-watching mother. This lead her to be a rather reclusive person around others. She's a bit of a mute, not vocalizing herself as a child should, because of her dislike of being picked on by other children, and even the occasional adult.
Optimistic-- Even though her situation isn't the greatest, she makes the best of what she has: Her mother. The strength her mother shows in the face of such pain gave rise to a feeling in Laini's mind akin to courage. A strength that filled Laini as well. She makes it a point to make her mark and make her mother proud, and that meant she could just hide away like a scared kit.
Unruffled-- Laini is not one to show anger at others for their faults, and makes it a point to smile, however nervously, at all those who picked on her for being different. She is not the only child out there like herself, who struggles, and she knows this. Laini cannot be mad at any of those who stare and point out her faults and differences, and instead embraces their comments, and smiles, letting them know that their comments could not rally a reaction from her.
History:
Laini is the only daughter of an Alkidike and a wandering Shifter whom caught the eye of the lovely woman. Though an Alkidike deciding to lay with a Shifter or Leaf was unheard of, and rather taboo, she herself couldn't shake the feelings she had, the tugging in her heart. The evening of Laini's conception, when they came before Aisha and pleaded their case to the tree, was one that her mother would murmur about to her, about how magical it was. But the look that crossed her face told another story. The man who had "loved", "adored" her mother had abandoned her after the child had been born from her blue flower, he disappeared as if he had never existed.
Yet, she herself was treated differently as she grew. She was different. This was a sad, true thing. She was a creature of darkness, light, and earth. Her features were strange and different from the rest of the younglings, few had even seen the colors that stained the Shifter skin. There were a few children like her, but they sort of stayed to themselves.
Yet, unlike them, she would shrug off the fact that they were different, and instead -albeit hesitantly- step out into the sun and rise in the eyes of all those in her tribe.
