This is not a confession. This is not a complaint. This is not a "woe is me, please help me" story.
This is just something I've noticed about myself and opinions are welcome.
From talking with people in the real world and on the interwebs, I've noticed that when it comes to music, I disagree with EVERYONE. I guarantee no matter who you are or where you come from, if we compare our musical tastes, we WILL enter a heated debate about something or another. That is, if we allow ourselves to get lost in our passion for the music we like.
It's fair to say that there is not a type of music that i don't like. Believe me when I say that out of almost EVERYTHING I've listened to so far, there is an example that I absolutely adore. I just wonder is there a limit to how open-minded a person can be? Am I too different a person to see both sides of an argument? I haven't met one person who is exactly like me concerning taste in art, because art is all about taste and subjective OPINION. Therefore, no one's right. But sometimes I think I'm right just because I understand every single thing out there, and the reason people hate is because they don't understand it. I don't know...
If you think I'm bull*****ing and want to test this theory of mine, I encourage you to leave your opinion and also a comment about music that you like. It can be anything like "I appreciate *insert subgenre here*, how bout you?" or "I think *insert album/band/song here* is an abomination to music". I will either agree or enter a heated debate with you. I'm betting on the latter.

I understand where you are coming from. I like all types of music, but there are certain artists that get on my nerves. Such as Kid rock! Just his name bugs me; never give yourself a nickname you can outgrow.

To prove my theory, I will leave a piece of music that I'm enjoying at the moment below, to be changed around noon daily. Until I figure out why Youtube won't work here, URL links will have to do. Thanks for listening and have a nice day ^^ Red Gyarados - SeakingGenre - Nintendocore/Chiptune Mood - Chill I'm confused, you have a right to not like anything you want. If you get in these arguments, you may just want to avoid talking to people about it. If this is about you having a totally individualized taste in music, that's fine too. We all differ in some way. I will say though, I've never heard any of the music mentioned before. I mean its 8-bit chiptune remix stuff. I know people who like that. This music wouldn't be made if someone wasn't listening to it.

I personally have nothing against any specific artist or genre really. I don't dislike anyone or anything. Okay maybe Justin Bieber but that is only due to the influence of the bandwagon of hating him that I constntly run into, but i am honestly not interested in him.
I am very selective I don't like any specific type of genre I like music that evokes deep feelings or sets strong moods. For example I like this song called Naraku no Hana go ahead and look it up on youtube if you wish I love the song because of how it starts out eerie then gets quickly emotional not to mention it fits the theme of the anime it opened for. I also happen to like pretty much any song by the vocaloid Yuzuki Yukari because I am in love with her voice, I have a small obsession over her (hides 3g large folder of stuff titled Yuzuki Yukari) I do typically like japanese music as you will be able to tell since I don't know the language I focus a lot more on the actual sounds and feeling those sounds create. I have songs from genres all over that I love but nothing specific. I do love some American music and artists but there is little consistency in my songs except in the pattern described above.

xXJustified_DeathXx Believe me when I say I've listened to EVERYTHING at least once, and there is an example of EVERYTHING that I absolutely adore. No offense, but in my experience people who make claims like that really haven't listened to everything. I like metal, mostly death and black, but I listen to the other sub-genres too except for doom. Opera's probably the genre I dislike most. The singing is just irritatingly vibrato-y and over the top, and it ruins all the other aspects of the music.

I'll agree that pure opera and classical are my least favorite genres, but mix something else in with it (Epica, Nightwish, etc.) then its not bad. And I'll take that challenge. Dare you to give me any 5 sub-genres you think I wouldn't know, and I'll say my fave artist in that sub-genre.

Check out a group called Screaming Mechanical Brain. Music is about more than genres and sub-genres. If you really want to appreciate music, drop all the pretenses of genre and listen to music for what it really is. I refuse to say that this is what I do because I'm American, and have been all my life, so I, too, am subject to the classification craze. For example: because of Lynyrd Skynyrd and my dislike of their music, I nearly flat-out refuse to listen to anything classified as "Southern Rock." Likewise, because of bands like Bon Jovi, Warrant, Ratt, White Snake, etc., I dislike all hair metal, save for Twisted Sister. Now, while I agree that every band has at least one song that is tolerable, and anybody who can play an instrument is talented, by no means creates the illusion that all music is good. As you have stated, music is subject to the listener, and every person is different. Example: I like the bands H.I.M. and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, but cannot stand My Chemical Romance, even though they are all lumped into the same genre. I guess my point here is that there's no possible way that you could have listened to absolutely everything out there because there have been literally millions of artists since music and music recording was invented. Just take a look at the website www.allmusic.com. They have thousands of artists from all round the world, and even they don't have information on every artist. While I applaud you for being open minded, please keep in mind that eventually you will find an artist/group that you dislike. Because if you flat-out deny that, then you are being closed minded to being open minded.

If you enjoy heated debates about music, it's great that you get into them so often!
If not, have you ever considered that you may instigate these debates?

The Hellfreaks are fun 3. Siege 4. ME!!! xp no seriously, I like Ambient period, so they're all good (I do ambient hip hop btw) 5. Parov Stelar is nice I know. Just saying, I'll only listen if its mixed with something else. You make good points, and I'll agree with them. I'll admit there are things that aren't my taste, though a good 50 or 60% of the times I'm showed something new, I'll usually listen again and get interested. And yes music is about "if you like it, listen to it", however I like to classify things so I can explore it more later and even educate other people about it (which I really enjoy doing).

As long as you can admit that not everything is to your taste, you're miles ahead of many other people. However, are we also to discriminate against the average person who listens to the litany of the radio, not paying heed to genre or band name or song name? A person who enjoys a song individually, as opposed to someone who tries to find everything about each band he/she likes?
