With so many awesome races and professions in this game, how can you choose? This thread is for telling people which race and profession combination you'll be trying out, as well as for getting help on what to start out with! Post your pro and counter arguments for each race and profession here! Please do not start flame wars. There is no perfect race, profession or combination and everyone should play what they want to play.Click on the images for more information!

I'm going to need help from you guys, I can't choose between the Necromancer, the Elementalist and the Mesmer to start out with. Which one would you guys choose? 3nodding

Yilanti Midnight -Rue. akugo My first character will be Sylvari necro. Nice. whee Any reason why or just for the awesome? Well originally I was going to play a Charr just because I find humanoids(races that resemble humans to a degree) to be bleh in this particular game and this game has a lot of humanoids, only 2 are not if I recall. However after having watched one of Totalbiscuit's videos of him playing a Sylvari Necro I thought it was pretty damn cool, a plant like creature that usually loves the forest and is apart of it etc etc being a necromancer and turning into what looks like death, freakin' awesome.

I have to agree with you on the humanoid thing, I was a bit dissapointed that the Norn just looked like taller, buffer humans. True, a plant creature serving death upon her foes does look interesting. Most people associate Sylvari with living things so it's a cool contrast. :3

I was watching some gameplay and beta videos earlier this evening and think I have finally found my first desire: An Asura Mesmer. I think it was the Illusionary Duelist ability shown in this video (at the 2:30 mark) that finally sold me. xd

If you have pre-purchased the game from the main site, and registered, you are supposed to get access the to weekend beta test runs (assuming you aren't simply a lucky S.O.B. who got into the closed beta). A friend of mine, who is much more plugged into this than I am, claims that there should be a weekend beta run at the end of this month. I haven't been able to confirm this, but if it is true, you have about two weeks to make up your mind. xd

I love the animal companions, but I can also see myself weilding ranged weapons, although they have close range weapons too, I believe. It's so difficult to choose! The elementalist and necromancer tempted me at first; even the thief at one point.

Human/Sylvari & Mesmer/Thief. Probably won't decide exactly what I'm playing till I get to customize my character. sweatdrop But I plan on roleplaying with my characters too, so that affects what I'll be playing. ♥
I'm also better at defensive/support roles versus offensive/inyourface ones. :s So I gotta pick sorta according to that. xD
