Q: Can we bet or earn gold from playing chess in this thread?
A: Yes, you certainly can bet gold against another player on your chess matches. When you fill out the form to start a match of chess, you have the option to place a bet on the match. Whatever amount of gold you bet, you and the opposing player must trade me that amount of gold before you start playing the game of chess. For those looking to join a match, if the person that started the match wants to bet gold, you must also bet the same amount of gold and trade it to Sh4wny before the match starts.

Q: Isn't chess just for smart people?
A: No, anyone can play the game of chess. It is not too hard to learn and it is actually quite fun.

How to Move your pieces in a game

1) Highlight & copy (Ctrl + C) the piece that you want to move.
2) Delete the spot you want to move it to or the piece you want to capture.
3) Paste (Ctrl + V) the piece into the new spot.
4) Replace the old spot with one of these squares: ▓ ░

A game is ended when one of the following happens:
1) One player resigns

Playing a Game

Starting a game

Follow these simple steps to start a game of chess:
■■ Go to the post titled Form
■■ Highlight the silver letters in between the large "✁" and "✃"
■■ While the words are highlighted, hit [Ctrl + C] to copy them
■■ Click Post Reply
■■ Click in the box where you type & hit [Ctrl + V] to paste the words
■■ Replace the ███ 's with your level of experience, number of games played, & your bet, if you want to bet.
■■ Once your form has been filled out appropriately, click "submit"
■■ If you did not place a bet, just wait for someone to quote your post & then you can start playing
■■ If you did place a bet, send me a trade with the correct amount of gold. When someone joins your match, they will also have to send me a trade with the same amount of gold
■■ If you start a match and nobody joins after a long time, just post the same form again, because people looking to join matches usually look at the last page of the thread first.
■■ The person who started the game controls the White pieces and that person will go first

Joining a Game

Follow these simple steps to join a game of chess:
■■ Go to the last page of this thread
■■ Start from the very last post and go backwards, looking at the posts, until you find a match you want to join. Started matches will say "Starting a Game"
■■ Once you find a match you want to join, click the "quote" button above that person's post
■■ Tell them you want to join their game. Click submit
■■ If that person did not place a bet, then you can start the game
■■ If that person indicated that they want to place a bet on the game, send me a trade with the amount of gold they posted.
■■ The person who started the game controls the White pieces and that person will go first

Playing a Game

Follow these simple steps to play a game of chess:
■■ Use the steps above to find an opponent to play with
■■ The person that started the match controls the White pieces (Right side of the board)
■■ The person who joined the match controls the Black pieces (Left side of the board)
■■ If you placed a bet on your game, wait for me to quote both of you to say that you have both paid me the correct amount and then you may start

■■ The person who started the match (White) goes first
■■ This person should "quote" the opponent ( [quote="Opponent's Name Here"][/quote] )
■■ Copy the chess board from the post you started the game with (It is in between the long line of small "✁" and "✃")
■■ Use [Ctrl + C] & [Ctrl + V] to move your first piece and replace the old spot with the correct square: ░ ▓
■■ Click submit
■■ The person who joined the match (Black) goes next
■■ This person should copy the chess board from the other player's last post
■■ Use [Ctrl + C] & [Ctrl + V] to move your first piece and replace the old spot with the correct square: ░ ▓

■■ Both of you take turns until one of you wins

Match Rules

◘◘ Fill out the correct form & required information
◘◘ Before a betting match starts, both players must pay the correct amount of gold. Once both players have paid, I will quote both of you on one post & say "You may now start the match"
◘◘ Send your trade right after you submit your form
◘◘ If you forfeit a match, the winnings will go to the other player
◘◘ You may not change the other pieces around while in a match, only the one piece that you are moving for that turn
◘◘ You may only move one piece on each turn
◘◘ If a player takes longer than 48 hours to take their turn, that player will forfeit the match.
◘◘ If a player forfeits a match that the player placed a bet on, that player's opponent will get all of the gold from the match
◘◘ If a player purposely disrupts a match that they placed a bet on, the match will end and the other player will get the gold
