It's unclear as to how exactly Naoki got trapped in a net when so little. Or how his leg was injured. Not to mention where was his mother? It's all in the past now and the lemur seems to have latched on quite thoroughly to Phirun. He considers the boy 'his' and you better not forget this! He's almost like a little guard canine of some sort. Almost as if he could sense how shy and unsure of himself Phirun is. Clearly he needed someone that could prove this wrong! Right? Riiiiight. Naoki is very close to Phirun, having been as young as he was when the boy found him. In his mind, Phirun is not only 'his', but also his companion. His 'pack' if you will. He has no intention of leaving His Boy and absolutely adores Phirun.

Playful and spoiled, Naoki knows how to be just charming enough to get what he wants. Like extra treats. Or just cuddle time. He loves to climb and jump from rooftop to rooftop, chase after small birds, has no senese or understanding of personal space or privacy, and a wicked arm with impressive aim. If he doesn't like you or you irritate him, best be watching out for flying objects. And don't forget those sharp teeth! He has and will bite someone. Especially if Phirun is exceptionally upset. It pulls out the more protective side of the lemur and he will not be as pleasant of a creature should you provoke him while he's curled up with a rather upset Phirun.

Though Naoki does not quite understand what they are, he's begun to notice the strange 'presences' that appear around Phirun. He cannot 'see' what they are, but animal instinct tells him they are there and where they are. The area 'They' stand tends to be strangely void of scent with just a hint of something that can be described as 'freezing earthen scents'. He'll stare quietly at these spots, alerting Phirun through a paw to the cheek, or rubbing his own fluffy cheek against Phirun's. Naoki has learned now that this is a Good Thing and he should Always alert his boy when those Strange Things appear. The lemur is unsure as to whether he likes them or not, and is almost confused on how to react aside from watching Them.

Chhan Rith and Anka were childhood friends that had always been close, encouraging one another along in their studies and to follow their dreams. When they grew a little older, each one choosing their own path to follow as they graduated from the academy, Chhan Rith found he felt more for Anka then 'just friends'. He was down right deeply in love with her! Not having anyone to really talk to about it, he spoke with his brother - who he was very close to - and with his encouragement, proposed to Anka at a fairly young age. They were married not long after, each of them supporting the other in their paths. Rith had chosen to become a fighter, with the hope of one day becoming a captain. Anka felt drawn to the life of a soul conduit and proved to be quite strong. And then, not long after their marriage, the happy couple found themselves to be new parents. Both were overjoyed and did the best they could to raise a child.

Where his father was an ambitious man that never seemed afraid to work hard for what he wanted, and his mother was sweet and kind, loving to meet new people - Phirun was quiet and hesitant. Something that he seemed to have more in common with his Uncle. Not that either of his parents ever had anything to say against this. Phirun was their little pride and joy and that was all that mattered. They gave him as much attention as they were able to with his mother even asking one of her befriended spirits to keep a watchful eye on the boy. Phirun never understood what the strange feeling was he had when the spirit was around and it usually terrified him. As he got a little older, he started to understand what it was, though he was still intimidated by it. What he never realized until later was that his ability to sense the dead souls was something he had in common with his mother.

Around the age of five, Chhan Anka passed away quietly in her sleep. Her husband didn't realize she was gone upon first waking, as Anka's body was normally cooler than usual. But she wasn't breathing and, like being doused with icy cold water, the truth finally clicked. She was gone. And none of them (Rith, Phirun, or his Uncle Mao) knew why she would have died at such a young age. The only real explanation that Rith and Mao could come up with was that she had been using too much of her own energy when healing, causing herself to be weak and drained until finally her body couldn't handle it anymore. They were all devastated, but Rith couldn't help but accept that his wife had died doing what she'd loved most. He would just have to continue pursuing his own dream and not disappoint Anka.

Phirun was never told how his mother died, though, believing it really was a mystery. Both his father and Uncle had been told by Anka that Phirun possessed what it would take to potentially follow the path of a soul conduit. Neither of the Lunarians wanted to frighten him, so he grew up feeling alone. Like he was very different from them. His mother had been the only one he felt could understand his feelings. And he didn't want to disappoint his father! But being so shy and quiet, he was not the right material for a fighter. His father and Uncle tried to tell him otherwise, and that neither of them felt disappointed in him, but Phirun didn't believe it. He didn't think highly of himself to begin with and had an even harder time believing their words.

When Phirun reached the age of ten, he found his first friend. He'd been walking home with his Uncle from the market when he heard a soft mewling sort of cry. Curious as to what it was (and slightly afraid), Phirun dragged his Uncle with him until the found the source of the sound. A strange creature that he'd never seen before was tangled in a net of some sort with one leg torn up. His Uncle told him it was a lemur and that they should just leave it there. But of course Phirun couldn't just leave it! It was in pain. And needed help! Also very small. Mao didn't really need that much convincement. He was happy to find the boy showing such interest and spark over something. So with great care, they brought the lemur back to their home. Phirun took great care in nursing the baby lemur - who he named Naoki - back to health, untangling it from the net, washing the dirt off, wrapping its tiny leg. He would talk to the little lemur quietly, finding that when with him - for he discovered it was a 'him' - the presence of souls didn't frighten him as much. And Naoki seemed to grow attached to him. Phirun had been wary of seeing Naoki back to full health, thinking he would run away and leave him too. But he never did and has remained Phirun's best friend and loving pet since that evening he was rescued.

Finally, the point in time arrived for when Phirun would be enrolled into the Academy. He was reaching that age and knew he'd have to decide on which path to follow. His mind told him to follow in the footsteps of his parental figures and become a fighter. But his heart really wasn't in it. It was at this time that his father and Uncle told him a little more about his mother. That she had been a soul conduit, reminding him of how she too had sensed spirits. They told him he had the same gift she'd possessed and if he so desired, he could pursue that path. Instead of helping him with his choice, this only further distressed him and made it that much harder to decide. But the more he thought on it, the more he found himself coming back to the fact he was much like his mother. So, when the day came, feeling terrible and like he was letting his father and Uncle down in the process, Phirun chose to work hard to be like his mother had. He wanted to help people, like he had helped Naoki. Living or dead, Phirun saw the chance to follow his goal and help as many as he could with the abilities that he had been granted at birth.
