It was way too bright out here, Ren decided.
He had never seen so much sun in his life. But, then again, he had never been to the beach either, unless you counted the island disaster (which he didn't). And, judging from the amount of a certain blue liquid that surrounded them now...
...well, Ren decided he didn't really care much for the beach.
"So," he said, with a somewhat apprehensive glance towards the water, which was lapping against the sand with a slapping sort of sound, the rush of the water making him remember his exam towards second year.
Ren decided not to think about that right now.
Clapping his hands together, he said, with a great deal of enthusiasm and determination "So we have to build a sandcastle. Let's get on this, then! Tybalt, you can be the floor, and we'll just step - I mean build on you - oh, fine, stop giving me that look, I was just kidding, we'll build it on the ground like normal."
Then he promptly plopped himself down in the sand, rubbed his hands together, and began gathering up piles of materials to use.
He was also studiously ignoring the fact that, for reasons he had no idea about, his parents, Medieval, and Baroque were all somewhere in the audience.

"Ah hah ah hah.." Tybalt rolled his eyes and kicked at the sand beneath him. How they ended up having to build sand castles as a part of a trial would forever stump the black dog.
"Here's a suggestion," He changed his tone, looking thoughtful. "why don't we dig a huge a** mote around the sand castle, hang you over the water and lure out a giant shark for said mote? Hmm? How about it? I think its a brilliant idea. What about you guys?" Despite the grin, the black dog was squinting against the sunlight. It was bad enough being exposed to it on the boat ride during that one field trip--which he'd rather not re-call, and though he didn't feel the heat as the others might, it felt like his energy was draining just by standing here.
"Seriously though... How should we go about this?" He asked, crouching down to observe and poke at a small crab wandering the miniature dunes of sand. "I've never built one before."

While she may have been very surprised upon discovering they were at a beach and not in, saaaay, a haunted house, the she-wolf was enjoying it. Very much. The sun was nice and warm (maybe a little too warm, but that's where the cool ocean water felt nice against heated skin) and the scent tangy salt water filled the air. Unlike her teammates, LW had gone right up to the water and splashed it against her skin before bouncing over to join the boils.
"Why don't we save that as a last resort, in case we do need one?" LW offered, ignoring the Ren vs Tybalt bickering already starting. Geez, not even here on this lovely beach for five minutes and they are at it? The she-wolf sighed and glanced towards each of them. Or tried to anyways. Her gaze might have lingered once or twice on her boilfriend. And yes, she just happened to place herself between the gryphon and the black dog.
"That is a...good question. Has anyone ever actually built one before?" She definitely hadn't, and neither had Tybalt apparently. "And the only thing coming to mind right away on how to start....is maybe sketching something out in the sand? Like a floorplan of sorts?" The she-wolf paused, tail flicking back and forth (and probably flinging drops of water at the same time), glancing from the sand to the water and back. "Maybe the base of is should be thick and sturdy?" Not that she had any idea of how to do that with sand. Except pack a lot into a confined space.
......could she just maybe go back to playing in the water? Or bury one of the boils in the sand? That sounded fun and productive!

LW was clearly enjoying this. Clearly.
"What?" said Ren, ever so innocently, even as he had Tybalt wrapped in a headlock (wtf, when had had even grabbed him?) and was giving his ghoulfriend the biggest puppy dog eyes he could muster.
Which probably weren't very puppy-like or innocent, but whatever.
Dropping Tybalt's head (and ignoring the very familiar voice he could hear in from a short distance away that said something that sounded along the lines of "Renaissance what are you even doing - "), Ren reached around, ruffled Jove's hair affectionately (he could almost here his mother's disapproval from this distance away), and proceeded to drop back down in the sand and began pushing piles into a big heap.
After about five minutes he said proudly "I FINISHED."

Clearly he wasn't, but it was, at the very least, a start.
"So Jove can flatten that side, LW can work over there on the left, and Tybalt can be on that side - yes all the way over there. We have to start with a flat base, and then we can work up from there."

Tybalt frowned at LW's suggestion and here he had thought it was an excellent plan. One that they should execute right away. Unfortunately, no one ever liked his plans much. The frown, however, was more of a scowl as Ren held him in a headlock. When had that even happened? He couldn't say, but he was determined to have his revenge.
Once released, he shot the gryphon a glare and pulled his hood back up over his head. The only protection from the sun he was going to get.
"Man, I know we're all beginners at this... But dude... you suck." He sniffed, looking at the mound of sand with disapproval. "If we're going to stay in the competition, we're gonna' need to do a good job of this." He gave the mound of sand another look. "I like LW's idea. At least then we'll know what we're doing. Though... I say we need some things to improve our castle." He flashed the three of them a grin before taking off. "Be right back!" He called. Disappearing down the beach. Only to return about ten minutes later with two coconuts in hand.
"Hey LW! These look familiar?" He called, holding them up to his chest together, with a very wide grin on his face.
"Hmm... not big enough right?"

Jove had never been to the beach before. He had heard of other students going to one, having parties, playing howleyball in the sand, setting up huge bonfires at night... But the pup had never been one for parties. So the feel of sand sinking under his heeled boots was still a rather new sensation, and the brightness of the sky made him want to shield his eyes.
He glanced around, examining the scenery before feeling a hand land on his head. The scowl was automatic.
And... Ren thought that was a castle? Seriously?
The scowl grew as he stomped over, tottering slightly as the sand gave way under him, and then fell to his knees next to the pile of sand. Without a word the pup began to methodically pat the side of the lump with his little hands. If they were building a castle, it would need to be more solid than this!

Like she ever bought that innocent look. Her innocent looks were more convincing~ Once again, LW just ignored the two boils, opting to toe at the sand experimentally. She heard familiar voices mixed among the others in the stands, shaking her head ever so slightly. Of course her brothers would be here! Why wouldn't they enjoy watching her make a fool of herself in some way? Either that or they just wanted to check out all the other ghouls here. And spy on Ren.
LW eyed the gryphon as he started to...build a mound of sand? Okay she watched for about thirty seconds, then stared at Ren himself for a minute (or three) before toying with the bikini she wore. When she looked back up when Ren proclaimed he was 'finished'....LW just stared at him with one of those looks.
"Really, kitten?" Her lips twitched, violet eyes flashing towards Jove. "I think there is more to it then that..." She wagged her tail lazily in amusement, moving (or bouncing still) to the side Ren directed. Only to frown when Tybalt disappeared. Where the hell was he going? Rolling her eyes, LW crouched down and poked at the sand pile. Then started to smooth out the side and make it look more like a 'wall' of sorts. About the time she got it to what the she-wolf felt was a satisfactory point, she heard the black dog return.
And burst out laughing when she stood and looked at him. "I dunno, you're almost right on the mark!" She moved to stand next to Tybalt, glancing from his coconuts to her swimsuit top. "Hmmm....close enough, yes?" She paused, eying the coconuts. "Then again...."

"IT IS TOO A SANDCASTLE," Ren protested, sounding very much like a petulant child even as he was trying desperately to hold back a smile.
Especially since now both Jove and LW were giving him Looks.
"What."
After a few moments of shoving, he finally was able to make the base level smooth and flat - with help from Jove, of course, and all the while still ignoring The People in the audience (who he was not going to name because that would be acknowledging their presence), after all.
And then Tybalt had to show up with -
....
"LW. Honey. What did I teach you about staying away from creepy people? Creepy people just make you creepy."

"Says the creeper." Tybalt countered and stuck his tongue out; tossing one of the two coconuts down at Ren's feet and keeping the other with him.
"Think we can use that for something?" He asked, looking at them all before looking back at the one he still held in his hand. "and no way I'm giving this one up." It was an excellent souvenir after all. Besides, if Ren really pissed him off, he could use it to beat him to death with it later.
Now that sounded like a plan.
Tossing the rounded object up and down in his hand, the black dog paced around the sand mound and frowned again. Clearly one coconut wasn't going to save... this.
"So," he started, looking back up at them. "where do we start?"

Jove snorted at them all, and focused more determinedly on the castle in progress. Clearly they had never seen a castle before, or they would know it had to be stronger than this! He was almost done pushing the one side into a sturdy flat face, removing the little dents left by his palms, and finally kneeling up so he could start working the sand at the top into the vague shape of a sturdy sand rampart.
All his reading about castles said they had an outer wall, with buildings in the center. Whereas Ren's pile was... all building? Maybe? Or perhaps it was a castle for moles, and the gryphon was simply bluffing some intricate rooms and corridors hiding in there.
His fluffy ears flattened back as he listened to the others banter, it looked like he would have to do all the work around here!

That was not a sandcastle. Nope. Not at all. Thankfully, Tybalt had given her a distraction from arguing with Ren. For about five seconds at most maybe.
"Are you trying to imply that I'm creepy, kitten?" She crossed her arms, taking full advantage of 'eying' him. And had the sudden urge to run up and trace a finger along his chest. Her leg muscles even twitched, trying to get her to do just that. There were lots of freckles to play connect the dots with showing right now...
"Not sure." She said absently to Tybalt. "Could probably crack one open and use it to dig with? Or...hmmm..." LW really was trying to think of some way they could use the coconuts. Really she was. Sort of. Maybe. Although she'd taken a few steps towards Ren without realizing it. And then continued towards him to frown at the coconut Tybalt had tossed to him. "I'm sure we can find something to do with them."
LW lightly poked the gryphon in the stomach before a particular cluster of freckles drew her eye. She traced a pattern there, a grin forming as she shot a look over her shoulder. "Hey Tybalt!" She called in a bemused tone. "Lookit! I can form a star here!" Then she moved to yet another cluster of freckles. "And a....derpy flag here!" Yep. She'd lost the battle to not make shapes out of Ren's freckles. It was just too fun to pass up!

"....I love you." She added looking up and giving Ren an innocent look.

While Jove was doing most of the work, Ren was attempting to figure out what on earth was going through LW's mind.
She was drawing on him.
Drawing.
On.
Him.
"LW. Honey." It seemed like all of his Specific Sentences started like this now. " What have I told you about drawing constellations with my freckles?"
Nothing, of course, but that was beside the point.
Laughing, he gave her a grin, waggled his eyebrows obnoxiously, then went back to help Jove and the rest of them finish their sandcastle within the time limit. And, twenty minutes later -
"I think we're done! TYBALT WHERE ARE YOU quit playing with those coconuts and put them on our sandcastle."

Poor Jove. The pup always seemed to be taking care of situations, while the older 'kids' bickered with one another and fooled around. Even still, the wisp was doing a fine job in castle building.
"What are you talking about? I'm right here, feather brain." He answered, capping a lid to a black marker and looking rather smug. While Tybalt hadn't gone invisible, Ren was so distracted with both LW, and the castle, that he must of dismissed the black dog completely. Or long at least, enough for him to continue this little game that the she-wolf had started.
"You should try it Ren. Its veeery entertaining."

Except instead of shutting a door in Tybalt's face he just smashed some sand in it instead.
