His head swayed to the left before dipping in one swift moment to take some water. His sturdy front hooves planted firmly in the small stream. The final rays of sun poking holes through the forest's canopy overhead. His eyes turned up slowly and he stepped away from the stream, the skin on his back flinching a few times. Another few steps back left him in the darker shadows of the trees, but the shimmering patterns on him glittering like the rays of sun. He let out an aggressive snort through his nostrils, a short burst of air that broke the quiet of this quiet place.

Esperenza pulled herself up from the grass, the scent of clover and crushed grass attaching to her hide and cloying her senses with it's sweet smell. The mare smiled and shook herself, grass falling around her in a green cascade. She smiled, lapsing into a sweet serenity as she began to walk her way through the trees.
It was then she caught sight of something in the distance, passing through the shadows. It shimmered and shined and the colors enticed her to approach. As she got closer, she noticed it was a Stallion, a rather large one at that. But something made her pause just out of view. He seemed aggressive, and this made her rather nervous. Not only had she little experience with males, but little experience with others in general.
She blinked and tossed her head briefly before venturing cautiously toward the male. "Good afternoon." She murmured, stopping a good distance away, her head dipped to show she meant no harm.

The faintest change of expression lifted on his face. A twinkle of amusement in his eyes? Curiosity? No, it was amusement. He stepped foward, back into the light before drawing in a breath to respond. His mind already working in a manipulative fashion. His expression lightened further before dipping his head in a polite gesture to greet her.
"Good after, my lady. What is bringing you this far up the side of the mountain? The evening is fast approaching. Are you lost?"
His head rose back up, his chin lifting in a confident manner. His bright eyes making direct contact with hers. His tail flicked a few times, the bright strands brushing his back legs. His experience with mares was plenty, but he never managed to get one on their own before. His encounters typically ended in a fight with another stallion. His ears twisted, trying to listen if there was another with her.

Esperenza quirked a brow, and her yellow eyes took him in, adreamy expression on her face as she noticed the shining designs upon his pelt. They were exquisite to say the least. Oh, she could feel the painter's brain burrowed beanth her itching to paint the designs. Flicking her tail, she pulled herself back to the present.
"The farther up the mountain I go, the more I see. The more vibrant the colors seem..." She lapsed once more out of speech, her gaze drifting to a flower at the edge of the forest's shadows, one side of the flower vibrant, the other lost in darkness.
"I am nigh lost. I drift where I please, for there is so much to see in this world to want to stay in one spot. How boring!" She let out a soft laugh, her eyes closing as she relished in the feeling it brought her. "But where are my manners? Surely not in the clouds! My name is Esperenza, and I am very pleased to meet you."

Santaro's eyes drifted towards the flower, he hadn't taken much notice of the blooms. He wasn't one to take notice in much of his surroundings. The majority of his time was spent in an angered rush. The sight of the flower, her appearance , her personality and his boredom all meshed together in his mind. The corner of his mouth twitching as he fought off the obvious amused expression.
"I'm Santaro."
He took only a few solid steps towards her, his eyes making contact with hers. He already knew what he was doing. With only a few spoken words the path he was set on was inevitable. She was beautiful, he admitted that inside himself, but his wild heart was not going to be tamed by this one. At least not as he saw it now.
"There is a clearing only a short distance away, the flowers were brighter there. If we hurry you might catch them before the sun sets. I'll show you the way, if you don't mind the company, of course."
He had noticed the small clearing early and was now grateful that he hadn't stomped on the flowers in the middle of the clearing, just a few on the edge. He only remembered the clearing because it was the only one he had run into that day.

Santero. She let the name roll over her mind and her tongue, enjoying it like a candy. It wasn't often she met others who were willing to stop and actually converse with her. Her yellow eyes seemed to smile at him, the corners creased in merriment.
At the mention of flowers, she let out a small laugh, one dainty front hoof pawing at the ground. "I'd like that." She said simply, taking the same amount of steps he had taken and matching them walking toward him.
She imagined him among the flowers, like a dark fire, burning them away in his brilliance. It was a terrifying and amazing image, and one she wanted to see instead of imagine. "Please, Santero. Lead the way?" She murmured, her head bowing slightly, smiling gently up at him.

Santaro moved so he was at her side, then took a few high steps to lead the way up the mountain. He weaved between the trees, following a faint trail that he walked all day. Although he was slightly annoyed having to trace his own steps back, knowing that a beautiful mare was following closely behind made the lack of progress a lot less painful. He stopped to see if she was still following.
"It isn't too far, but we'll need to hurry. I'm unsure if it'll be as lovely in the evening."
The word, 'lovely, it seemed like an unnatural word for him. He quickly turned back to the trail, picking up his speed a bit. He wasn't in a rush, but he didn't want to miss the sunlight. His speed was decent considering his size, he moved gracefully while the ground rumbled beneath his black hooves.
With a crash he broke out from the brush into the clearing. He stopped suddenly, his eyes wide and looking down at the tiny little white flower patch right in front of him. His eyes moved up, the flowers were still bright although the sun was just about set and dusk fast approaching. He drew in a deep breath, turning his attention away from the flowers and back to Esperenza's whereabouts.

Esperenza followed closely behind the large stallion, yet still gave him a wide berth as he moved through the trees. She could feel the very ground tremble in his wake, and in her mind's eye she imagined a dark demon devouring the world, making all tremble as the earth did beneath her hooves. And he did seem that way in someways, his hide dark as the underworld with flaming markings breaking the black. Beautiful really.
As they finally broke through the treeline and entered the clearing, she wandered to stand beside him, looking beyond at where Santero had taken her.
There were flowers there, stark white, but now burnished red by the setting sun, turning it into an imaginative patch of fire sitting there. She trotted forward away from Santero and stood amidst the flower, her head falling to allow her nose to sniff. "Beautiful." She murmured before allowing her head to rise and her eyes to once again find Santero. "Thank you, Santero. This is a masterpiece of nature, and I wouldn't have seen it if not for you." she smiled happily at him.

He looked down at the flowers in front of him. Their tiny white petals a beautiful shade of pink from the setting sun. The air around them beginning to catch a purple haze as the sun began to set even further in the horizon. The dusk had finally caught onto the mountain side.
"It is beautiful."
Santaro took a few solid steps so that he stood beside Esperenza. His fiery eyes gazing at her now. Santaro's mind raced trying to choose his next words carefully. A strategic game beginning to unfold, every action, every word he was unable to take back.
"It's so strange..."
His voice was deep and the words trailed off as he took a few steps away from her. With his head hanging a little lower that usual he let out a deep exhale.
"...it feels as if I've known you for a very long time, Esperenza. Even though we've only exchanged a very few amount of words."
His head shot back up, his ears standing on end.
"I'm sorry."
The twinge of guilt ached in his stomach. She wasn't the usual mare he dealt with. There was normally no guilt associated with toying with the mares, but this one was different. She seemed so genuine and good. Most of the mares he'd dealt with deserved the treatment he dished out, but this one made his skin crawl. She was beautiful in a unique way, her beauty was unassuming and her personality had an innocent charm. She was so perfect it was poetic. The guilt was already seizing him, it was disgusting, but he was already too far along to back off.

Esperenza's ears perked up in confusion. What was it that he was apologizing for? She walked forward a few steps to stand in front Santero and stared up at the tall stallion. "I'm not certain why you are saying sorry, Santero..." She closed her eyes for a moment, and allowed her mouth to pull up in a soft smile.
"You have no reason to be sorry."
She stepped forward a few more steps until she was a few nose-lengths away. She didn't want to impose on his personal security. He had such a sudden sadness in his bright eyes that she felt a wash of guilt dampen her senses. "Oh Santero... Please, tell me what's wrong?" She wondered if he would confide enough in her to tell him why he was suddenly sullen.
