Q/A:

So you're finally getting around to this, huh? Yep. It's about time, considering I have put so much time into it.

Okay, so, what is it?: X-Com is a strategy game from back in the day. it's hard, but fun. I'll explain as we go.

Viewer participation?: Oh hell yes. See that last screenshot? That's where we start. Sign up in bold if you want a squaddie named after you. (Once we've gone through the first batch we can get creative with names.) Pick a spot for the base, and tell me if you want to be a scout, sniper, or artillery.

Then we'll get started.


(ps I'm waiving that toxx clause if you ******** don't participate)

Current contact teams:
Manic
J (Scout): High reactions are good, needs to work on Stamina. 5 missions, 1 kill.
Kriel (Sniper): Great accuracy. Not much to speak of in the way of defensive capabilities. Will use him exclusively as a sniper. 1 mission, 0 kills.
Ootand: high leadership potential, accuracy not as detrimental as once feared. (Artillery, rockets preferred) 5 missions, 3 kills.
Haru: Excellent stamina. CQC specialist. 2 missions, 0 kills.
Aidros: All-around specialist, good scores on the firing range. Recommended for sniping. Autocannon usage secondary. 5 missions, 1 kill.
Waynebrizzle: Skilled in nearly every field. Command candidate. No HW. 5 missions, 1 kills.
Kath: Unreal amounts of stamina make up for poor reactions and accuracy. Possible CQC. 2 missions, 0 kills.
Thundermist: Incredibly accurate with small arms. 5 missions, 0 kills.
Dulnair: Similar, with better reaction times, allowing him to be used in a defensive role if need be. 5 Missions, 2 Kills.
Trenn Flashkill: Accurate, fast, durable. Has shown toughness under pressure, recommend tentative promotion to contact team. 2 missions, 1 kill.
Odin: Decent stamina, good accuracy and strength. 2 missions, 0 kills.



DEMACIA Garrison:
Note, anyone Garrisoned at this juncture displays signs of cracking under pressure. As we develop better ways to deal with this engagement, you may still see limited action.
Regulus: Middling stats all around. Could develop into an all around good unit if he weren't so edgy.
Hullis: Excellent reaction times, perhaps TOO good. Extremely twitchy, making him unreliable in the field. If rectified, excellent candidate for defensive use of the Rocket Launcher.
Shigar: Good with small arms, but sickly. Possible alternate sniper.

HWPs

There she is. My home until this is over, one way or another. I'm not fond of the layout. Other bases will be designed with fewer potential places for incursion. But since it's already a ********, we got to building.

Our funders made some severe oversights, so I had our people get to work on correcting that. Within a few weeks, we'll have better eyes, we'll have teeth, and we'll be able to store the spoils of war.

Our initial hires are a mixed bag. The one calling herself "Cabron" doesn't seem interested in the actual fight so much as supporting her squad. Admirable, but impractical. She'll be on garrison duty with Operative "Regulus."

And here is the reason we settled near the Columbian border. Our base is still in that of a funding nation, but it's incredibly easy to acquire most anything.

Almost immediately after I got off the phone with friends in low places, the siren in my office blared.

I'm not especially fit, but I broke land-speed records running down the hallway to the Command Center.

Up on the screen, there it was.

They couldn't have known we were monitoring them. The Andes were right there, they could have used them for cover. As it was, we had a chance.

I used the order to scramble all fighters. We didn't have a chance to wait for new personnel, so everyone, garrison team included, piled into the Skyranger. The sold of weapons being prepped echoed throughout the hangar.

But for now, they had to sit and let the fighter jockeys do their work.

Fast. We lost tracking on the contact as soon as it showed up. There's no way they could have seen our ships as they left the base, so we'll chalk that one up to chance. Hopefully.

Contact Team Maniac has been adjust to accomodate the strengths and weaknesses of our group. They favor a "Scorched Earth" policy at this point, several of them have experience with heavy artillery. I can support this stance at an early juncture, but I'm hoping to see an improvement in efficiency over time.

Second post has been updated with squad info. If you've been garrisoned, it means that your bravery stat is too low. Early game, we will see losses. Units with low bravery will snap and are capable of shooting their own teammates in such a fugue. Lategame, once we develop ways to resist min control, I'll get you out on the field.

I just sprang out of bed as the alarm went off. We found one between us an Caracas. Both Interceptors have been deployed in order to keep them from getting either target. This one's bigger than the last, but not abnormally so.

User Image The Interceptors chase it westward, engaging it just before it gets over the waves of the pacific.

User ImageIt doubles back, and to their credit, the stick with it, chasing it back THROUGH Columbia, into Venezuela again.

After multiple engagements, it's right back where it was. And then it breaks south, passing within spitting distance of us. Going the same way as the last one. Going straight through the alps this time, but we had visual all the way.

Maybe they didn't know that. Maybe that's why they set down. Either way, we have them cornered. Both interceptors are circling and Contact Team Maniac is en route.

Well, looks like it's that time again. I feel kind of bad for them, but business is business, ze.

It's too bad, really. I'd love to sit down and play some games, but I doubt they'd be so reciprocative, what with trying to shoot us and all.

(Also, is my Rifle Semi-Auto or Bolt-Action?)

(Also also, I assume HW is Heavy Weapons?)
