Do you use Tarot in your practice?
For what? How often?
And What kind of Deck do you use?

I drew a random Tarot card today, and i feel that it was the right card. A really cool feeling!

You mean, religious practice?

Not really. Sometimes I'll do a reading to see where I am - or where I should be going - spiritually, but that's pretty rare. Usually I'm using it for non-religious stuff. I like doing the odd one- or three-card draw for folks on twitter ^_^

I have three decks: Witches Tarot (which I don't much use any more, to be honest), Druidcraft, and Bohemian Gothic.

I've only got one deck myself (Archaeon Tarot). I don't use it much, and almost never as a part of my practice. Divination really isn't a thing that I care about much.

I don't really use my tarot cards. But I do have the Tarot of the Vampyre deck. I think the art is so pretty.

My HPS has a framed print from Robin Wood's deck. I've been thinking about buying myself a copy- but it's a little off putting, since none of it reflects my race. cat_sweatdrop

: I know I haven't seen many that would. Aeclectic Tarot is probably your best bet for poking around and finding one that might suit your needs.

I read tarot a couple times a month, or at the request of others. I started learning to read at 14, but I'm still learning to read at almost 34. So. My religious path does call for the use of divinatory tools at certain times, and while I am familiar and experienced in many techniques, tarot is often the most applicable. I also sometimes use the cards as focal images for spellwork.

I don't like the traditional Rider-Waite deck, and don't get good readings out of them. I learned to read on the Aquarian Tarot, instead. I currently read on a Robin Wood deck and a Crow's Magick tarot. I also own a few different oracle sets, which I use infrequently. I would like to have a copy of the Wildwood Tarot at some point, but I'm very comfortable with what I use now.

I have a couple of Tarot decks - the Mona Lisa deck which I use for the occasional reading and the Alchemy Gothic deck which I bought because it looked awesome. I'd love to get a Shadowscapes deck because the artwork is so pretty!!

There are so many decks out there people seem to buy just for the art. I've never understood that. But then I don't usually buy anything based solely on appearance. I'm pretty solidly in favour of acquiring things based on usage and practicality. Even if something's really lovely, if I can't or don't use it, I pass it on to someone who will. I do usually try to find creative ways to use things before I move them on, though.

I like Brian Froud's artistic style, but as I said above I'm not a person who buys things just because they look nice. And although he probably comes closest to portraying f--ries as the dirty, twisty, nasty little biters they are, I'm still really not a fan of anything with f--ries involved. I suppose it's fairly well known I think the little bastards are trouble and keep them far away from me - I don't really understand people who want to invite that level of misfortune into their life. Mind you, a lot of the time people aren't working with f--ries, but rather nature spirits who are less malevolent to humanity, or even thoughtforms and egregores of 'f--ries' based on those butterfly-winged children or fat little cherubs the Victorians loved...

Proper f--ries generally don't have our best intentions at heart...why would I want to take divinatory advice from them? Can someone explain that to me?

I don't think it's so much buying them just for the art, but more that some people (myself included) need decks to be visually appealing in order to connect with them.

If I find a deck boring, ugly or inelegant, I can't get anything from it. I need to love the art or I won't feel a tug from it. But then Shadowscapes is pretty but doesn't twig me at all. It can't just be pretty; I love Alchemy artwork and jewellery, but the deck doesn't appeal to me. And if it's pretty clear the artwork was done for a different purpose beforehand and then slotted into a deck, that tends to be pretty obvious as well, unless the art motivated the creation of the deck. Pretty art is pretty art and it can match the idea of, say, Strength or the Hermit, but unless it's actually created to represent that, it doesn't work.

I understand needing the visual connection. I mean, I can read with a deck of playing cards as well as with a tarot deck. But it's not as visually stimulating. I guess I am just saying I wouldn't own a deck of cards I didn't intend to use, regardless of how attractive the art is.

Oh, OK! Yeah, I can definitely agree with that. 4laugh

Don't get me wrong, I planned on learning how to read them. I started reading the book that came with it but when my mom saw the cards she told me that she didn't want me using them because it was against her religion. So until I finally move out I just stick to doing oracle readings while I'm not at home because I already knew how to read them.
