Elodin looked out over the snow and ice. He was certain that if he concentrated hard enough, he could make it go away. It was just water after all. And water couldn't be too hard to bend to one's will.
The fact that he had a pick that would be very useful in clearing the ice didn't occur to him. That he had never successfully controlled water with his mind was also not a consideration. The blinding headache building from staring at the bright snow was starting to be a consideration.

Laeh trotted along the snow, twirling and leaping. Her hooves left little prints and she wondered if she should dust them out as she walked. Who knows what kind of monsters could be lurking around. Not that they would give her any problems; she'd defeated many monsters before. Another one shouldn't be troublesome.
Ahead, Laeh noticed another mini and she trotted over to him quickly. He was standing incredibly still and Laeh wondered if he was frozen or turned to stone. Leaning forward, she nudged him. "Oh!" She exlaimed and jumped back. Her certainly wasn't frozen or a statue. "What are you doing?"
Laeh eyed him wearily; a pick in his mouth tipped in what appeared to be blood. He had gems in his hair and his body was covered in scales. Perhaps he was the son of a dragon? A treasure hunter? Whatever the case was; Laeh's adventure sense was tingling.

Elodin was startled by the sudden appearance of the mini mare. Had she just moved herself through the air with her magics? But no, her hoof-prints were visible behind her. He sighed.
"I am learning the name of water and ice.' As if that was the most normal thing in the world to be doing. "Do you have the name of water and ice? Do you have the name of air and wind? Have you rings of power to call upon?"
But as he looked her over, Elodin was certain she did not. Shaking his head, "Return when you know the name of the Wind. For, though I know it, I can not give it to you."

Laeh stared at the stallion for a moment. Name of the wind? Ice? Water? What in the world.. The wind? Oh! Maybe he meant the ability all puttis had. Did she have to prove she really was a putti and not a monster in disguise? Made sense; Laeh would do the same thing.
She took a step back and concentrated for a moment, eyes closed. When her eyes opened a gust of wind shot past, bringing up a flurry of snow. She grinned, pleased with herself and looked at the stallion.
"I don't know the name of the wind. But that's good enough, right? I can stay and learn water and ice now?"

Elodin was once more startled by the mini mare. He humphed before speaking, "That is not the name of the wind. But if you wish to stay and learn, I will not prevent it."
As though she were not there, Elodin turned back to staring at the snow. It wasn't that he was ignoring her, it was just that, he was studying. And that he really wasn't aware of how to be sociable or why he should even try.

Laeh skipped on the spot with joy. She didn't like being sent away, not that she actually listened when she was asked to. But still... It really was a bother when those who didn't appreciate her company chased her away or got rude.
She watched the stallion curiously and after a few moments, began doing the same as him. This lasted about three minutes before she was overcome with boredom and she flopped over onto the ground, pouting and looking up at the stallion.
"This is really boring. Isn't there an easier way to learn?"
Laeh huffed and rolled over, looking around. "Can't we have a snowball fight or something? Snow angels? Snow men? Fun?"

Elodin stopped studying the snow to look at her. "It is not boring! It is the study that proves the mastery. Watch how the snow sparkles as the light hits hit, the way the sun melts the top layer just enough that it refreezes into a thin crust of ice over the snow below it. The way the wind puffs up loose snow and makes it swirl and dance. No, don't look at the wind, that will give you the wrong name."
"There is no easy way to learn, you must know what you seek to learn its name. And to know it, you must study it. No one else can give you a name, the name is the understanding of the thing on a level so deep you can call to it."
"But it is not revealing itself to me, and you are much more insistent than the snow. I could delay my study for a bit. What would you do that is fun?"

Laeh's mouth hang slightly open as the stallion spoke, completely oblivious to what he was saying. Snow was fun to play in but she didn't think it was that amazing. She couldn't have as many adventures when she was cold and Lissa always got mad at her for tracking snow into the teepee.
Laeh trotted around, wondering what they should do. "Adventures. I go on adventures for fun. Fight dragons and pirates and witches. Rescue princesses, find burried treasure." She stopped and walked in a circle on the spot, trying to think.
"I've never built a snow man. We could try that."

Elodin looked curiously at Laeh. "Why would one build a man of snow? What purpose would it serve and would not such a purpose be better served by a snow Soquili? Surely a snow Usdia would be equal to any task one would set a snow man."
This mare made no sense to Elodin. Though he was subtly impressed with her tales of adventures. He had not known anyone to perform such deeds previously.

Laeh was already gathering snow into a pile when the stallion spoke. He had a point. A snow usdia would be much better; and cuter too. "Fine then. I'll make a snow version of you." She grunted as she kicked up the snow some more, the excitement making her forget about the cold.
She eyed the stallion. "Are you going to help or just stand there?"

Elodin tilted his head to one side, observing the mare. The idea of pushing all that snow into a form was . . . rather novel.
With a slight shrug and a nod, Elodin begins pushing snow towards her gathering mound. "I will help, but I am not certain what I'm doing."

Laeh kicked snow into a huge mound, huffing and puffing. It was packed down really tight. She wondered what it would look like in the end - if he would like it or if it would even look like him. She looked him over for a quick moment. She would need a stick for his pick.. rocks for his gems and... - she cleared her throat lightly - crushed red leaves for the blood.
It had never occured to her that the blood speckled on his coat could be a bad thing. He was grumpy at first, but Laeh had ignored it and put it off to his character. She wondered why he had blood on him and who it belonged to. Was it his from his work in the mines? Or perhaps he was an evil villian who tricked mares like her and then took them away.
She stopped and stared at the stallion curiously. If that was the case, perhaps she should collect rocks for herself so she could leave a trail for Lissa to come and find her.
Laeh read about that little trick in a story a while ago. Two children were captured by an evil witch. They'd used bread crumbs, the silly things. The birds ate it up. But rocks.. no bird would be interested in eating rocks.
Turning to the stallion, Laeh smiled sweetly. "I'm going to find rocks and sticks to decorate you with." Humming loudly, she trotted off into the bushes and started gathering small rocks in her mouth. She made a few trips back and forth, placing them in a pile. She grabbed a few leaves and a stick, too and then grinned at her pile, proud of herself. "There! Perfect!"

Elodin blinks at the mound of snow and detritus. And all he saw was snow and detritus. It was in a mound, and it was lumpy in the right places, he supposed. But he certainly couldn't see himself in the snow.
Walking around it, Elodin tried to hear what the wind had to say about this pile of snow. But the wind wasn't whispering to him today. Then . . . aha. Well, now it looked more like him. Though not all that clearly. But at least he recognized what was meant to be his head now.
But still, it didn't really look like him. That the only time he saw what he looked like what when he was getting a drink of water in a rippling pool of water, didn't register to Elodin.
"Perfect? Perfect what? What purpose does this serve? Will it get up and fetch us pine cones to munch upon now that it is formed. I am hungry. And I see little use to the effort. It can not even be eaten, for it is nothing but snow!"

Laeh frowned. "You don't need a reason to have fun. Or a purpose. It wouldn't be fun that way." She stomped a little hoof and ran forward, headbutting the snow-soq, causing the whole structure to collapse and land in a pile of snow on top of her.
Shaking herself free, Laeh poked her head out of the pile and grinned. "Hungry, huh? I saw some berries not far from here." Pulling herself free from the snow, she shook the flakes off and ran in the direction of a small forest. A little ways in, was a berry bush and Laeh happily started munching, waiting for the stallion to follow suit.
